It's kind of funny, isn't it?

In the papers there's a been a huge amount of speculation about us losing two of our best players and we've been getting all worried about it despite the money we could be receiving.

Yet United will be losing two of their best players, in fact their best player, and now we're worried about the money they will be receiving.

Irony has a kind of poetic charm don't you think? ;D

I think there is a real chance they will emerge stronger next season.

Man for man Ronaldo is irreplacble.
But with £80m plus the usual kitty to spend they will be able to go out and sign Ribery, Benzema and a central midfielder.
None of them will be as effective as Ronaldo on their own but I think it will make for a better more balanced squad.

They keep showing that clip on SSN Mark, and i can't stop laughing about it.

I'm looking forward to hearing what Fergie has to say on this subject .

In hindsight, I'm actually surprised (or am I?) that he got away with that quote last Summer. Would any other manager?

I doubt it.

I'm glad he said it though, as it will be interesting to see him try to expalin this one away.

Its a horrible scenario.

Spend £50-60m now, keep the balance for Jan, when there's bound to be the budget already set aside from this summer and another £50m to spend.

Weaker, yes. For about 10 minutes.

I hold off the laughter until you see how manu spend the money and 80 mil (plus original kitty plus further sales) is a fuck of a lot of money.

Fantastic news!

For all those shitting themselves about who Man Utd spend their money on, consider this: can it really get any worse than three league titles, and two CL finals with one win in three years?

In case there is any confusion, the answer is "No, no it can't".

I don't think we'll see a direct replacement for Ronaldo, simply because there isn't one. It'll involve some changes for that Utd side and whilst they're guaranteed to bring in some quality players, we can at least hope that there will be *some* disruption whilst they get used to life without him.

As for Real Madrid, fucking hell... this could be their forward line next season:

------------- Villa
Robben ----- Kaka ----- Ronaldo

El Classico is going to be must viewing next time round.

They can spend all they want but will they get a player better than one that scores 45 goals like he did last season?
Doubt it, last 3 months of this season, apparently even though he wasn't as good as last season how many important goals did he score? Villa at home, porto away.
Yes they have 80 million plus whatever else they are going to spend but every club knows that and when they come calling for their player. They may be able to replace him but I doubt they will be any better than they were last year so that for LFC will be good thing.
Biggest thing for LFC this transfer window might be who we manage to keep hold of rather than who we buy.
Next season like last season is going to be very interesting, also world cup year, should be exciting.

It is Spidey...

But would you be pleased if G&H sold Fernando or Stevie for £80m?

I wouldn't... I would be absolutely gutted.

I just want it to be tied up and agreed already.

Is Ronaldo on International duty? Or is the medical imminent?

And maybe replace Robben with Silva?

Ferguson is a great manager and USUALLY finds great solutions to these problems, and i have no doubt at all that if we finish ahead of them we'll win the league.
What i am sure of is this being a huge blow.
Tevez and Ronaldo where the basis of their end of season run, and them leaving is a huge huge blow. He'll buy a couple of top class replacements, and probably now has the finances to cover rb and keeper too. Buuuut i bet there isnt another player in the world whos won the games Ronaldo has in the last two years.
Look at it this way, were losing Kuyt, alonso, reina and arbeloa, then someone offers us 80m for torres, are we starting next year in a position of strength or not?
Its going to be hard for them. Im not predicting their demise at all, but i wont accept they can come out of this stronger.
[/quote]

I think that is a great exaggeration. They have RB covered for next year between Neville and Rafael. Hargreaves didn't play more than a few games if that for them this season so it's not like they are going to miss him. VdS will stay another season, he was hardly crap last year was he, and GKs often play on past 40 years old. Tevez was a squad player for them no matter a great one. They are not in desperate straits in having to replace 5 first teamers and they have added 80M to whatever their budget was.

Three first teamers this Summer (ave. 25M) and the same next and they will have a great team for the foreseeable future. Personally I would rather have strength all over the pitch than an 80M player who may be on or off his game, injured or sound.

they will miss Ronaldo's genius, he single handedly won them games like ive seen no other player for any other team.

so much went through Ronaldo especially in the last 2 years I felt a lot of their players were just supporting acts, they could get away with playing some truly awful midfields like Giggs and Fletcher because Ronaldo was on the right destroying the (non top 4) opposition. I think they will miss him and even with the money they have to find the players to make their team stronger so it's a huge positive

for those who say they didnt miss Becks or Van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo is on another level to them, much more intense and has a greater impact/influence in their team. that's what I think they will miss but we'll see. doubt it'll stop them getting help from refs and 5 minutes extra to win the game but they will lose some intensity without Ronaldo

Surely £25m of it will go on Tevez who they already own, or will also have to replace.

So they will either have £55m to spare, less interest payments or £80m less interest and have to replace 2 members of their attacking line up.

I'm happy.

They'll miss Brylcreem Boy big-time. Despite having a lot of other excellent players, they have clearly performed less well when he's been absent. Given the scale of ManUre's debt (much bigger than ours, as are those of the other top four teams, whatever the papers say) it remains to be seen how much of the fee Ferguson will get to spend on replacements, and he's made his share of expensive mistakes in the market before now.

Is Redcafe their leading forum?

I just went on there to see what the response was, there was bearly a post beyond four lines in that thread. What a poor forum.

The general feeling is they're happy with the money they're getting for him and most of them were expecting it anyway, as you'd expect really.

I do wonder whether Pellegrini had a say at all in any of these transfers? Not that he minds, but still..

And with all the past talk of Rafa going to Madrid, I just don't see how Rafa could ever operate well under a chairman like Perez. Anyone think Rafa could/will manage Madrid in the future? With them spending money on players without his consent?

Yeah been there too, could somebody who may be a member do me a favour and quote some pillock who says Rooney would not have it in him to do that to them, 'Once a blue always a blue' would suffice!

I don't care for Real's attack for as long as Gago, Lass, Heinze et all are the ones relied on to cover their back.

We'd still hammer them 4-3 on agg.

We have Kuyt.

...................Villa...................

Pennant.....Kaka......Ronaldo

I'd laugh my tits off.

They will get Villa next and then come after Xabi.

Based on all this cash they have, we should look to get no less than £30m.
