Rodgers the overhyped manager

For me it's not the results that are the biggest issue. It's the performances

We've not put in a solid performance for frigging ages. Even when we win we look shit. I don't mind winning ugly, but playing that way every game and relying on referee errors or worldies is not the way we should be playing

The word 'worldie' really needs to be stamped out. Stamped right out.

We may have relied on a great goal for 3 points but 2 great saves from Cech possibly/probably denied us another two. These players are world class players, expect them to do world class things.

Other than that, I agree that it's the performances that have grated the most; Just not good enough. Whatever your results you can only play like that for so long before it comes home to roost. And yesterday it did.

I LIKE WORLDIE

As a supporter you want and need to trust the manager to do the right things pre game and during games with regards to preparation ,tactics ,team selection and motivation. I don't trust Rodgers to do any of those things well enough for us to progress as a team and a club.
It's telling that the Kop don't sing his name anymore. It's hard trying to get behind a manager that you have already lost faith in.

A small few tried just before the first goal yesterday...and 'we are Liverpool' was being sung as the goal was set up.

It must have been a small few as i sit in row 51 which is just below the supposed singing section and i didn't hear them. Maybe i was temporarily distracted but it can't have been very loud at all or would have noticed.

Oh for sure, it was a handful...no more.

I don't know which is worse - you hoping Kenny loses so he can get fired, or you STILL not knowing how to spell Rodgers name after 3+ years in charge. Wait, here ; )

But anyways, carry on being a fucking great fan.

What a fucking knob you are too. Just realised its because I have "Rogers" in my predictive text as I have a good friend by the name of George Rogers, we refer to him as Rogers. So every time I refer to Brendan by the correct surname it's changing it. Oh well, got better things to do than pick up on folks spelling.

I'm not the one who brought me into a conversation ... Then again, I don't know you personally, so I don't know if you're a knob in real life or not. Just like you don't know me ... As a fan, it's tough to give you the benefit of the doubt. ; )

Send my regards to George.

Tough to give me the benefit if the doubt as folk know I'm ultimately right about roDgers! I'm very likeable in real life believe it or not, haha. Sure we all are really

You're ultimately right about roDgers? You may be, you may not be ... But the bottom line is you would rather he proves you wrong and wins the league this year, right?

That would be great as far as I'm concerned. I hope we now do so well that Rodgers stays where he is. It's just unnecessary that anyone who reacts to how things currently are gets demonised for doing so. It's like people who desperately wanted this to be a great summer sitting outside in deck chairs, wearing bright Hawaiian shirts and listening to the Beach Boys on a loop, being drenched by the pouring rain whilst moaning about how negative the weatherman is. It's the wrong target, it's the wrong argument.

That wasn't aimed at you - you've made your position very clear and are very fair in general (giving credit when due, and slamming him when due too). Bottom line is a few posters have openly talked about the team failing so we can replace Rodgers. Now that's something that I just cannot relate to - I couldn't stand Hodgson but still wanted the team to succeed regardless of his bumbling interviews or ridiculous signings (p p p poulsen) ... So that's what the post was about ...

Hence, the example of your post means doesn't really work ...

The simple basis of being a supporter is that you want your team to win every match. There should never be an occasion when you are wanting them to lose.

That way madness lies . . . . . (Shakespeare, King Lear).

I know it wasn't aimed at me. But do have a good day.

Absolutely. And as John Stuart Mill once noted, sort of, there's something unavoidably ironic about caring passionately about something whilst trying hard to be unmoved by it. And he didn't even have a team. Certainly, when you want the team to win every game, and they don't, you struggle not to get too upset. And when that happens quite a lot, then it starts to even seem a bit perverse, and unnatural, and irrational to think that how upset you're getting is 'too' upset. It isn't anything personal, except for the one feeling it.

He needs now to have the courage of his convictions. I don't quite know what his convictions are any more, but he needs to identify them and act on them. From OT onwards. It's a critical time for him and he needs to go for it, not twitch from one tactical turn to the next without much obvious confidence. Better to go down guns blazing than guns half-cocked and misdirected. It might even see you not go down at all but get through it and thrive. Hopefully that's what this dark fortnight of the soul will lead him to think. Just 'fight for your life' as he used to say so often. Fans will be so much more patient if they see a plan in action and some passion in the players. A manager who clearly knows what he wants and where he's going. Players who know what they're doing on the pitch. A couple of high intensity attacking performances, even if they end in defeat or draws, would be so much better at this stage than another incoherent and insipid effort.

It really didn't help that we started the season playing Stoke again. What we needed was to wipe the slate clean and start with a new positive mentality. That fixture made us start looking backwards, just trying not to be as bad as last time. And we haven't yet turned our heads around and started looking forward. We need that clarity and direction from Rodgers and his staff now. Give the fans a sniff of the future.

I think you've stated the problem there sir ... It's tough to tell what his convictions are and if he has the ability to push through on them.

I'd rather you were our manager for the next few games ... 🙂

Good post.

You can change the system a lot if you have the players to do it. Players with great game intelligence. We don't. If you are a great manager then you also set up the team right from the start. As I said Rodgers is piss poor doing that. Almost in every game we end up chasing the game because Rodgers can't set up the team right from the start.

He is also piss poor to get the best out of players. Benteke is great in the air but we make very few crosses. We play very narrow. Now you get a much worse Benteke because of shit tactics. Henderson and Lallana is great making runs into the box but Lallana is played out wide so he can't use what is best doing and Henderson usually play very deep. Two more players that play worse because of shit tactics. Lucas is defensive midfielder but against West Ham he played as a central midfielder. We didn't play with a defensive one. The gap between the midfield and defensive was very big because of no defensive midfielder. Shit tactics again and yet another player played out of position. The list can go on and on.

Rodgers isn't a tactical genius. He acts like a clueless idiot. I would even say that right now he is one of the worst managers in the PL, if not the worst.

Weve spent 21m net.

Nowhere near enough to compete with the teams we want to catch.
City added 100m of talent to their ranks.
Chelsea the champions bring in Pedro
United spend a quarter of a billion in 2 seasons.

We spend 21m net.

Im not even whelmed.
