I know there is a thread on the Ronaldo transfer but this is a pure speculation/transfer muppet/Fantasy manager thread.

If you had £100m to spend who would you but to replace the grease ball? Can it be done?

I'd go all out for Eto'o to start with. I'm still utterly amazed that Fergie didn't make every attempt to sign him last summer, instead preferring Berbatov. They would be lethal with a fantastic #9.

So he'd cost 20M or so I imagine. Next up would be a wide player for the right flank. I can't think of anyone amazing, so I'll go along with the speculation and say Valencia for 20M. Then I'd use the rest to get Ribery.

-------------- Eto'o
--------------- Rooney
Ribery ------------------- Valencia

That is a very very good attacking lineup.

Buy Steve Austin for Six Million for starters, sure he runs in slow motion but he'd pack one hell of a kick, he'd be aces on pens and Freekicks

They should buy Ribery, Silva, and Eto'o. I think they can if they don't sign up Tevez. If they do then put Tevez in for Eto'o.

-------Rooney---Eto'o/Berbatov

Silva--------------------------------Ribery

Seeing as you need to be able to defend from the front in todays game, I'd go for this:

---------------Titus Bramble (£31m)------------

-------------------Huth (£33m)------------
Collocini(£35m)---Rooney-------Hibbert(£1m)

I would go for

Benzema £30m
Ribery £40m
Fabergas or Sneijder £30m
30 million for wesley sneijder...wow this transfer window is really out of control.

Yeah, that's probably the best they could do, given that Villa doesn't want to move to England. Alternatively, they could also sell Berbatov and buy Benzema, and play this as first-choice, with Valencia on the bench:

Eto'o

Ribery - Benzema - Rooney

*shudders*

Let's hope not, eh?

I don't think United will have as many problems as people think replacing Ronaldo. There isn't a like for like substitution, but thats fine, it'll just be a different system of play. If they get the purchases right, I'm sure Rooney will be happy with the situation. Their main problem will be rebuilding their squad depth as some of their old players are becoming increasingly irrelevant, and their young players haven't proven themselves up to replacing them yet.

If they brought in Eto or Villa and Ribery, I think they'd be more effective in attack than this year, especially against better teams.

Thing is, they're going to have to pay a hugely inflated fee for the only player who looks in any way comparable to Ronaldo - Ribery - something in the region of 50m+ I'd have thought. Quite apart from eating up a fair chunk of Ronaldo'd fee, there's no guarantee Ribery will settle immediately in England or their side - and he's certainly not going to be as immediately effective as Ronaldo anyway.

Their likely top striker target, Benzema, will also cost them the earth due to the sheer stubborness of Aulas. Eto'o is likely to go to Inter and Villa doesn't appear to fancy a move to England so their options might be limited. I think we'll see Fergie sign a couple of midfielders with the money + Valencia.

Is Benzema really that good? On the very rare ocassion i've seen him he's looked awful

Ive got to admit ive not been as impressed as everyone else seems to be. He scored a nice goal against the mancs though.

I think Benzema is at the point in his career where he needs to move to a top club in a more competitive league to really fulfil his potential; and make no mistake, he's got a lot of it.

He's class, but there are still issues over his fitness and attitude IMO. Huge potential, but it could still go wrong for him - particularly in the English league, I suspect. He's also a very similar style of player to Berbatov, so it'd be bizarre to have them both in the same team.

Hasn't Ribery already stated that his preference is to play in Spain rather than England? I think if Barca was to bid for him, he would go there. United will need to offer him an outrageous salary to tempt him to England and he's already on 135k per week in Germany.

They neednt worry, they have the best player in England apparently to replace him, Ryan Giggs
Ummm, Steven Gerrard (and, no, they don't have him).
