He was bang out of order refusing to play, but he has been a great player for us since he joined.

To start calling him a 'son of a whore' is pretty classless.

Apparently he was told last year that we'd let him leave this year and when his dream club came in for him, he wont have want to have risked it. What if he'd got injured in that match against City?

Barca are as much cunts as what he is. Their behaviour with Fabregas and now us.

As unpopular as this opinion is, I agree with it.

So do I. The only addition I'd make is to put Mrs.Masher in the same bracket as Barcelona. I guess she couldn't help it if she didn't like Liverpool, but refusing to even visit her hubby was bitchery of the worst kind and IMO was the main reason for Masher behaving as he has.

If Englands weather wasn't so shit and his wife like it here I'm sure Mascher would love to stay.
He spent one season away from his wife already.
He didn't go about it the right way but he was desperate.
I hope Barca win the league and smash Real when they meet.

I was with you till the last sentence. I hope they both have absolutely disastrous seasons. Doubt it'll happen though.

Not agreeing with you on this one, Jules.

His actions cost us at least 5-8 million in transfer fees and was a direct contributory factor factor to our shambles against Citeh.

However desperate he might have been, his behaviour is totally unforgivable.

I share your annoyance at what's happened, Avvy, but your conclusion (and that of others on here) seems to me to have been overly influenced by it, however understandably. Masher's selfish bitch of a wife made him choose between his marriage and his professional loyalty, the genuineness of which BTW he had demonstrated as recently as the game against Arsenal. As a result Masher found himself in a totally impossible position, and I can't bring myself to blame a man for failing to solve the insoluble. She's the villain in this IMHO.

Ahh well, let he and Barca enjoy it while they can, before his 'issues' decide to kick in again.

what do you mean? it's hot and everyone speaks spanish.

The dust has settled and he's gone now. Do people not feel a little absurd for continuing to throw abuse at some woman they know absolutely nothing about?

I don't think any of us have the right to comment on the families of players. That he's wanted to leave for some time is entirely his right and it's not really something that needs to be justified in any way. If it's down to family issues, that should be enough.

Masher failed to act in the professional manner we expected him to at the very end and in all of this, that was the only disappointment.

To be fair to him if you've played on for a year somewhere were your own family refuse to live .... he hardly had a choice did he, if he had of played and the club had clung on to him ( due to our absolutely fucked financial situation) then....

Play for the best team in Europe and have a family life or play for a cunt owned joke of a club.... thats not disloyalty its desperation on his part. He couldn't play for us against man city and still guarantee a transfer, what with the club announcing "he has a contract etc etc"... so he did what he had to do, it was shit for the club and good for him but he was in a crap position and i have a modicum of forgiveness. I would do selfish things if it meant not gambling on a transfer and keeping my family together.

I choose to remember him as a really good committed player who gave everything in the pitch until he couldn't anymore, there are plenty of people at the club who deserve more circumspect appraisal.

Typical South American throwing toys out of his pram.....

He has acted like a child in the last few weeks and any respect I had for him has been lost....

Earlier on I acknowledged that Mrs.Masher couldn't help not liking Liverpool. What she *could* help was refusing even to visit her husband while he was fulfilling contractual obligations, thereby putting him in a completely unresolvable dilemma. That's what caused him to want to leave, and wanting to break your contract IS "something that needs to be justified". So zero apology, absolutely none, for saying that her behaviour was blackmail, and therefore unacceptable, whichever way you try and slice it.

hey .... women are women and if they aint happy they aint happy. His behaviour was blackmail its true but then so was the clubs pay X million or else stance.... he had no choice really. If it meant another year apart from your wife and kids just so as your club can squeeze a few more quid out of another...

For what more broken promises from greedy men at the top? bollox.

I wouldn't have played against Arsenal let alone City, and im a Liverpool fan. i dont know Mrs Mascherano and it could well be said that her behaviour caused this problem but maybe shes a homebody who doesnt like the culture etc... Its horses for courses... im not gonna have a pop at her just because she prefers to live in a more similar climate and culture. She might be a miserable spoilt bitch and she might just not its just unreasonable to expect Mash to expect to choose for the sake of kicking a pigs bladder around on a satdy.

You're missing the point twice over, molby. For one thing it's her behaviour, not Masher's, that I'm calling blackmail - I see him as a victim too. For another, it's not wanting to live elsewhere that I blame her for - I've made that clear. It's the fact that she wouldn't even VISIT, though her husband was doing what he was legally obliged to do under his contract.

Err...???

Im not missing the point jules. Say you are Mash and you will spend another year more or less apart from your family, when you could move to a better club and one more suitable for that said family but your club are playing hardball despite assurances that you can leave. I kind of got the feeling you were sticking up for mash in amongst all the bile from jilted fans and then backtracked a bit to sit on the fence somehwat with stuff about his wife being a bitch etc etc....

I was on your side, i think mash was put in the position and made the choice and i dont blame him nor her for squat, i do not know if she has visited or not, if she hasnt then if feel even sorrier for the man for having a wife that mean. Nonetheless it must have been a n easy choice for him.

Incidentally the same club who promise the earth quite regularly and deliver diddly squat owned and run by greedy lying cunts.

Anyway im not arguing with you i just dont see the need to slag either him or her for what was basically an untenable situation.

What upsets me is too think that unless shit sorts itself out in the very near future we will be forced to say goodbye to Torres and that really would hurt.

Reports in Spain say #LFC and Barca were €3m apart on Masch price, so he asked Barca to knock €3m off his own contract and pay it to Reds. ¨

Fee seems to be 25 mill euros.

I was/am sticking up for Masher, molby mate, and I don't really understand how you thought my having a pop at his missus was "backtracking" on my support for him.

Whatever. I'm glad we agree that Masher was between a rock and a hard place on this. It's a bad business all round and the best thing to do is put it behind us IMHO. If he ever does come back to Anfield to play, I hope he gets a good reception. Apart from anything else, if he gets booed it'll make him even more of a nuisance to play against. 😉

Just goes to show how desperate he was to leave if its true. Im sorry if im going against the grain of opinion here but.... good luck to him, good fucking player and its a shame we lost him. Im with you JJ he should get a good reception IMO.

I sincerely hope we get a chance to play him again because it will mean we are back towards the top.

That would fit with other reports that Masher himself was involved in the final bargaining. Had it been left to an agent worried about his cut, this might or might not have happened.

Molby, good point about what playing against him will mean. Knowing the little bugger, we'll all be on here the day after the game complaining about his tackling. ;D

I'm not begrudging him leaving; and in fact I've said as much...this should have been worked on and settled long ago..otherwise we'd see more last minute rubbish leaving us in a bad situation (which has happened, as per)

But the way in which he did it cannot be erely brushed off as choosing between his wife ande the club.

Choose the wife, but dont fuck the club over whilst doing it.

The ferocity he's getting here is mainly shaped that he's probably our 4th best player in a squad beset with rubbish.

This is a horrific loss which has been compounded by his machinations in ensuring we received as low a fee as possible.

I don't believe that last bit was his purpose. I think it was the (ultimately inevitable) byproduct of a desperate situation for him and the club which was largely brought about by others. Of course I wish he'd found some way of doing things differently, but I'm not persuaded such a different way actually existed.

Well-stated as always Judge. Mascherano was in a very difficult position. If it is true that he refused to play last week, then that's obviously a bad situation. He needed to leave, though, given his situation.
Without knowing much behind it, I do wonder at the wife though - putting him in such a horrible situation.

The wife's a convenient scapegoat, but I don't think Masher would have turned down the opportunity to play for Barca anyway.

Also, this is pointless and dull. He's gone, fuck him, I hope he wins fuck all, but I don't really care much either way

He won't get a good reception. Refusing to play for the club is a cardinal sin and, with football fans being so fickle, all the good he did for the club will be forgotten.

I was his biggest fan, but the manner of his leaving and the refusal to play left a sour taste in my mouth, that I really can't forgive him for.
Not only did he make up the shortfall himself , he took less than we were offering as a wage, we can call him many things , but greedy does not seem to be one of them

Barca move "a dream" for Mascherano

Javier Mascherano has described his impending move to Barcelona as a dream come true.

Mascherano arrived in the Catalan city on Saturday as he looks to put the finishing touches to his transfer from Liverpool.

The Argentina midfielder, who will reportedly cost Barca €22 million, will undergo a medical on Monday before putting pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Spanish champions.

"The truth is it's a dream," Mascherano told Barca TV. "It's a great joy and a reason to be proud for me and my family because of what it all means, for everything they've achieved in the last few years.

"As well as being a great team they are also a great group of people. Hopefully things will go well from the start.''

The 26-year-old has vowed he will adapt to life in Barcelona quickly, and will to all he can to bring success to the club.

"I'll give the same as I always have for all the teams I've played for; sacrifice, desire and I will try to do things as well as possible and help all the time," he said. "It's a great club with great players and I will try to adapt as quickly as possible."
