Reds agree Mascherano fee

At the end of the day, the club refused to stand in his way, what they DID request was that he be honourable enough to allow us to receive a 'fair' fee in return, and given the financial climate at the club, it was the least we could ask for. When push came to shove they (Barca and Masher) ran it down to the wire to get him at the best possible price and when it started to get a bit too close to the end of the transfer window, he got itchy fingered and forced the clubs hand by refusing to play and thus speeding up the process of his sale, and the chance for us to get a reasonable fee.

We bought him for near £20m from West Ham's bench, Barca sold Yaya fucking Toure for £28m and he's gone for more or less what we paid for him, despite him since establishing himself as one of the best DM's in the World and captain of Argentina. It's a crock of shit, and whatever aspects of good nature he's shown by giving his all on the pitch and making a good financial gesture, the flip side is he eventually pressured the club to sell so he could get his own way.

He's done good but he's also been a bit of a shit in all of this too. When it came down to it he used player power to get his own way.

We're going to have to agree to differ then, Avvy;

1. Masher's departure was going to hurt us whenever and however it happened, because he was massively important to us;

2. If this were an ideal world I'd share your draconian view of the irrelevance of a player's wishes in such a situation. It isn't, so I can't.

3. It's likewise your privilege not to care about his family situation, but I totally disagree, not just because I don't wish an unhappy family on anyone but because it's bound to directly affect any player and his form.

4. Where does the article have anything to say about Barcelona wanting to act honourably? Could it be that your damning assessment of it arises chiefly from the fact that its message doesn't suit you, rather than from any objective lack of accuracy in it?

5. The fact that we didn't handle the matter as well as we should have is not down to Masher alone (nor do I consider it completely the club's fault, as the situation was always going to be a tough one to navigate).

Of course it was going to hurt us, Jules..but the only way to set that off is to get a good fee for him..We didn't.

As for it being 'irrelevant', for the intents of his contract, it was..he broke his contract when he refused to play, and I can't understand why he's getting an easy ride by you..he's shafted the club to get a move, what he did is little different from Owen..and I dont recall Owen refusing to play games if he didnt get his move to Real.

As I said, I sympathise with his position...indeed, I know a little of what he's going through which not many here can say..but I didn't shaft my employers when I moved..even though I could have, and that cost me money.

There's no way a shit club like Barca could ever act honourably, that wasn't my intent.

I was referencing the tone of the article turning Mascher into a fucking saint by sacrificing his salary for his family's happiness in either Italy/Spain/AnywherebutLiverpool.

You lost 3 million,Masher?

Aww...how about you give the club another 8 million to compensate us?

Then you can rightly go out seeking canonization.

As for us getting our usual transfer-fee humping, hat else is there to say?

I think we're already immune to our own incompetence.

Javier Mascherano has denied going on strike at Liverpool as he prepares to seal his move to Barcelona.

The Argentine international is expected to tie up his move to Barcelona on Monday after Liverpool reluctantly agreed a fee for the midfielder on Friday.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson aimed a swipe at Mascherano following a deal being agreed with Barca questioning his professionalism after the former West Ham man reportedly refused to play in last Monday's defeat at Manchester City.

However, Mascherano has blasted Hodgson's criticism and claims he was 100 per cent professional during his time at Anfield.

"I showed at Liverpool that I am always 100 per cent professional and nobody can doubt that," Mascherano told The People.

"Against Manchester City I was not right to play. I spoke with the coach and he understood my position. It was better for the team.
No problems

"I have never had any problems with the new coach - I accepted his orders and Roy Hodgson would confirm it.

"My team-mates knew it was my decision and did not say anything about it to me."

Mascherano insists his move to Barcelona is not driven by money and he is excited about joining the Spanish champions.

"Liverpool will always be in my heart, but my time there has finished and now it is time for a new challenge," added Mascherano.

"I have not left Liverpool to join Barcelona for money, just for sporting reasons. The Barca project is very exciting. They have been interested in me in the past and this second opportunity to join them was impossible to reject.

"I will for ever be grateful to Liverpool for what they did for me, but I have done all I can for them on the pitch in return.

"The fans were always brilliant with me and now I must wait to see if they view my exit negatively. That is football."

Messi influence

Mascherano also revealed former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez wanted to bring him to Inter Milan, but that Lionel Messi played a big part in persuading him to move to Camp Nou.

"Inter was the first option," he added. "Rafa wanted me for his new project, but my family and the challenge Barcelona provides made me choose Spain.

"Lionel Messi was also a big influence. He spoke with Pep Guardiola and told him Barcelona needed me."

I suppose you could argue (as cretins advocate) that had we have sold him last year when he wanted to go in the first place, we would've gotten a better fee. As it happens, we asked him to stay for another year leaving ourselves in a position where everyone knew he would be off and he had one year less on his contract. It's a difficult position to put yourself in when the club is in a mess.

but keni, losing xabi AND mash in one season would have guranteed we finished outside the CL places...

oh.

All I will remember of this scruffy, mouthy little shit is that he refused to play for Liverpool last Monday. He disrespected the club, his manager and his team mates and disgraced himself.

Fuck off.
