Without Stevie....It's on par with the Nicky Butt/Joey Barton combo that took Newcastle down...

We are short of one quality CM (Should be very mobile), One quality LB, One quality wide-midfield player and one good striker....

We go into the season with a very very thin squad. But i would still prefer that Roy addresses one position at a time and instead of flooding it with 4 average players to make up the numbers.

We're losing one of our best players, for a pittance..and we're playing horribly.

I'd gone into the season a little optimistic; I hoped Hodgson would do the one thing Rafa wouldnt, and that was to fix obvious weaknesses left unrectified for years.

But he seems to be repeating Rafa's mistakes.

Granted, we have a load of shit players left over but we could at least use the shit players as best we could.

It's too depressing to think about.
 
There shouldn't be too much to talk about seeing that Masher has already agreed a deal with Barcelona?

i think it'd be somewhere near the 20M mark, 13M + 5M add on's is way too low, and we wouldnt sell for that low. Atleast i hope not

I doubt it. Once Mascher made it clear he wouldnt play we were fucked.

Keep him & dont play him (let him rot), we lose his value cos he walks on a free next summer, or sell him for the best fee we can get now.

Hobsons choice.

Once he made that decision it meant we couldnt negotiate properly, simple as that.

I think it's a bit early to say that Avvy, as you said yourself earlier Mascher could have made a big difference in the City game.
Cole has not had a chance to show yet, and Torres is still on his way back. Lets see if Roy has been left any time to get players in and see what happens over the next three or four weeks.
We did well against Arsenal, had a mare against City and got through a tricky Europa qualifier with half a team in both legs.
I hope the board give him the full money including the add-ons up front to give him half a chance.

I think the real problem was lack of suitors. If two or three teams had really needed a defensive midfielder it would have been a different matter as it was Barca knew they were in the driving seat and shafted us, we would have done just the same

Spanish media are saying 13 mill £ + 4,9 mill £ in add ons. Thats a shite deal, and hopefully we'll get a bit for than that.

But as Jon said, when he decided to not play we were pretty much fucked. Something has to be done with player power.

I would like to think they had targets lined up ready and deals half done for when the time came, it's not as if it only happened today, this has been coming for twelve months or more. I am amazed he never went last January.


I think its actually 20 months, on his contract which is less than two years and effectively means one full transfer window after Tuesday

Its just a symptom of our position, if we were in the position we were 20 years ago, we could have afforded to let him rot and brave it out, we aren't unfortunately, but our day will come again.

I can't help thinking we are talking pounds and everyone else is talking Euro's

That is not as bad we think. Potentially 22m pounds. In Barca the chance of the potential is not bad.

Its a shame Mascherano ruined his reputation with the fans. I would have accepted him leaving this summer but not after refusing to play.

At least with add-ons, if youre going to have any club with add-on bonuses, you'd want barcelona
