Robbie Keane, just one goal from being joint all time European Qualifier goalscorer, and two from being there on his own.

I love how the writer felt the need to mention the second bit.

Estonia v Republic of Ireland: Trapattoni Interview

Last night was a great night for Irish football, and it was so good it brought a tear to Giovanni Trapattoni's eye.

The elderly Italian got all emotional in his post-match interview with RTE as the joy at achieving qualififcation hit home.

After all he has achieved in the game, it shows just how much it meant to him to get Ireland to the European Championships.

[/quote]Why, I was just trying to state the obvious for the benefit of those who don't always see it

Trapattoni has restored my faith in Italians, a faith I'd lost at the tender age of 10 due to Toto Schillaci's goal against Ireland in the 1990 world cup.

He reminds me of the Italian ringer brought in to play the annual over 75's Priest 5-a-side game against Father Ted's men.

I reckon he stole Ross' girlfriend, when they were young.

Girlfriend or pie, I haven't quite decided.

For somebody who has scored so many international goals he is very unpopular with an disproportionally high proportion of Ireland fans, or at least among all the ones I know.
There have been some newspaper articles on the subject, and comment on the TV as well.

Yeah, but it was on principle that he walked out. He walked out because the Irish FA where a mess and not giving the team the facilities they needed to help them perform at the next level.

That's what I remember anyway.

It was the wrong thing to do. He may have principles but if he fucked people over sticking to them then he can shove them up his labradors arse.
