8 - Maradona
9 - Pele
10 - Messiah

You better hope Maradona doesn't see that, he will hunt you down.
I'd fancy my chances running away from Maradona.

Kuyt had a great game.

I was pleasantly surprised with the deftness of Kuyt's touch for the most part today. I thought he showed a fair bit of skill to go along with his industry. One move he made in the Arsenal box in the second half before cutting it back across goal was fantastic. If we hadn't been down a man there likely would have been someone on the other end for an easy tap-in.

Kuyt had a great game.

i'm changing my mind and giving Jova a 7, but Kuyt infuriated me at times. Sure he was great defensively, but that wasn't why he was on the pitch. His 1st touch was dreadful at times, and other than that point where he took on that player in the box, he offered very little attacking threat.

All the back four did well, Masher was very good, eggnog was dismal at times, but scored a belter

Everyone else was 'ok'
Bren, you had to be happy with the lineup and the way Roy has generally gone about things?

No Lucas, no Aqua, no Insua, a striker for a striker despite being a man down. All in all, I thought it was promising and a good sign of things to come. And despite N'Gog, he scored a good goal and generally filled in well.
It was promising in the belief shown, but not particularly in the play. We didn't play particularly good football at any point, did we? And the best aspects of our play were defensive. That's hardly a phase change.

Biggest difference is a bit of energy in Anfield and the players not moping feeling sorry for themselves.
Yeah, I was disappointed with how negative we were in the first half. Hodgson's comments (and our approach in the second half) suggest that he was too, and that our extreme cautiousness maybe had more to do with nerves than with any particular gameplan.

I also liked the fact that Torres came on fairly early, despite the fact we were still leading, and that we didn't stop attacking even after they scored. However, I would really like him to pick Aurelio at LB, rather than Agger.

I expect us to be fairly cautious away at City, and we've always gone for it at home against the weaker sides, so the first real test of how Roy might differ from Rafa as a manager will be Birmingham away. We were dismal in that fixture last season. I hope and believe that Hodgson will send us out to win it rather than nullifying a team set on nullifying us for 80 mins, then increasing the pace in the last 10.

I though Hodge was very impressive in his post match interview.

He was fair, diplomatic and spoke with authority. He also didn't harp on about what shit luck we had which is a great example to the players.

I'm very happy that he's the Liverpool manager.

Like Mark, I thought Kuyt was excellent, especially in the second half.
Yup. Some shocking scores for him in this thread. He was one of our best players.

He gave away possession 15 times with a 60% pass rate, and his first touch was horrible.

I just looked at the figures, after wondering how anyone could think he had a good game, and it confirmed what I thought.

I thought carra spoke beautifully too.

Carra is actually becoming something of a wise and intelligent elder statesman.
He had a good piece about him in the Mail on Sunday

I don't think we set out to be negative, Arsenal were all over us like a rash in the first half and we could hardly get the ball out of our own penalty area! ;D

It was only thanks to Arsenal's perpetual fault of trying to walk the ball into the net that we managed to keep the buggers out.

Or a legacy of last season under Rafa. It must be difficult to change your mind-set when a new manager comes in with new ideas, and even more difficult to implement them on the pitch during an actual competitive match. Hopefully we'll see the team become more adventurous as the season progresses.

Tough tough game. Feels like a loss.

Reina - 5 - I wanted to give him a 4 but two top class saves (Walcott & Rosicky) pushed it up despite the two gaffes.

Johnson - 6.5 - solid game.

Carra - 6.5 - solid game

Skrtel - 7 - I thought he was excellent

Agger 6.5 - he played well considering LB isn't his position

Masch - 6.5 - was poor in the 1st half but simply phenomenal in the 2nd half.

Gerrard - 7 - I thought Gerrard played well. A few good set pieces and seems to be 'back'.

Jova - 6.5 - strong debut. He seems to be a Kuyt + pace. He's going to be a crowd favorite I think.

Kuyt - 7 - solid game from Kuyt.

Cole - n/a - It seems he was just getting warmed up with some nice touches before that yellow card tackle.

Ngog - 7.5 - MOTM. Well done.

Subs:

Torres - 6 - I just hope he's healthy most of the season, he's key to our chances of finishing top 4

Maxi - n/a

Lucas - n/a

I thought Magic had a great game and don't understand some of the 6's and 6.5's he's getting.

1. Gerrard
2. Mash
3. Magic

Reina - 6 - blooper for the goal, but solid enough otherwise.
Carra - 7.5 - Led the defence well. Still has a hoofing tendency, albeit a little less prevalent.
Skrtel - 7.5 - good strong game in defence
Agger - 7 - Did a decent job out of position
Magic - 7 - Improved defensively
Gerrard - 7 - Steady performance
Masher- 7 - Looked a little disinterested 1st half, improved 2nd half
Jova- 6.5 - Up and down performance
Kuyt - 6.5 - Poor 1st half, much better 2nd half
N'Gog - 6.5 - Shite first half but improved after his goal. Not good enough to play up front on his own though.
Cole - 4 - Not the best performance and sent off (slightly harshly) for an unnessecary challenge

Maxi - 6 - Average
Torres - 6 - Average and not fit
Lucas - 6 - broke up play now and again.

Roy 6.5

Please, this is the same sort of thinking as RAWK, just from the other side.

Rafa wasn't as conservative a manager as you are making out, and we produced some good attacking football with his most realized team. Roy Hodgson isn't a particularly adventurous manager, especially away from home, and he's now got to deal with the raw material of our team. Our team isn't waiting to play like Arsenal if only Roy Hodgson can shake away Rafa's cobwebs, because it simply doesn't have that same level of technical ability throughout the side, and that level of comfort on the ball. Not to say we can't be competitive doing it a different way, but don't be surprised when it's more defense minded, at least at first.

It'll be defence-minded primarily because Old Uncle Roy is exactly that type of coach.
