Henchoz - Was at the end of his career.
Hyppia - Ageing legend
Riise - Decent player
Finnan - Good player
Dudek - Not good enough
Cisse - Decent player
Owen - Ran down his contract and had made up his mind to leave before Rafa had even arrived.
Gerrard - Legend
Carragher - Legend
Murphy - Decent player
Smicer - Not good enough
Baros - Not good enough
Hamman - Was at the end of his career

Taking into account age and quality that squad was shite Oncy. Why was it that we received next to nothing for those senior international players like Smicer, Baros, Hamman, Murphy, Dudek, Finnan and Henchoz when they moved on?
I cant be arsed mate. Youve already decided it was shit. Far be it for me to give a shit.

What Rafa got from Houillier wasn't too far off what Souness got his mitts on:

Old, quality players with not a huge amount of youth available(Owen, Macca Fowler played a lot more under Evans)

So they had to rebuild the squad bit by bit, it's not an enviable task.

We didnt finish ahead of United in 2004 Onecy, but the rest was spot on.

Rafa to Juve would be perfect, they would buy his contract out and we would save a lot in wages.
Dalhlish and Lee till the end of season and take the last 4 months to get Mourinho.
He's almost won the scudetto again, he would leave with a title and take this new challenge in a hearbeat, Im sure of it.

WHERE'S THE FUCKING MONEY COMING FROM TO FUND MOURINHO'S "WAR CHEST" ?!?
Quite. It has been suggested that the club is saving money during the January transfer window so that more will be available to tempt Mourinho, but I am sure that the results of this exercise would be far too little to appeal to him. He wants owners who are prepared to make multiple spectacular buys like Chelsea or Man City.

Juventus continue chase for Benitez

According to the Italian media, Juventus president Jean-Claude Blanc has flown in to Liverpool in order to attempt to prise the Liverpool boss away from Anfield.

Benitez was very coy in his post match interview in mid-week when asked, on an opportunity when he normally would have brushed off the debate.

Suggestions have been rife that Benitez will move to Juventus in the summer, after failing to receive any assurances about player investment from the Liverpool board. For the fourth successive transfer window Liverpool’s net spend in the transfer window looks set to be negative as the club continue to hoard money to pay for enormous debts.

The Juve president is convinced the current malaise will ensure he can bring in Benitez now rather than wait until the summer.

Momo Sissoko, former red and now at Juventus, has also entered the discussion admitting that Benitez will have a plethora of opportunities come the summer.

“Rafa is a successful coach who can get any good job in Europe. He will be asked to take many jobs in Europe.â€

“Rafa is a very good coach who had confidence in me. He made me proud to play for Liverpool. He made me work, work, work and made me improve.

Rafa bought Momo twice, firstly taking him to the Mestalla with Valencia before bringing him to Anfield. The player was eventually usurped by the arrival of Javier Mascherano.

“The Liverpool fans are very loyal, very kind and very passionate. Playing at Anfield was very special to me and I enjoyed playing there. Rafa has their support so that is important for him that the fans believe in him.â€

We believe that Rafa is considering waiting till the summer, when there is a greater chance that depending on the climax to the season – the job at Real Madrid may be vacant.

Mourinho would easily get that squad in top 4.
A couple of additions and he would make title challenging team.
Im amazed how people think it would need billions to make a competitive squad.
Without Rafa's baffling decisions and constant mistakes we would be in the fight for the top 3

I think it tells you something about Mourinho, that he is only prepared to a manage at a club that will offer him a huge transfer budget - i.e., he wants success the easy way. Mourinho seems to be the favourite candidate on here, but I'm not sure I want a manager who isn't prepared to back his own management abilities.

But if he were to join it would put that notion to rest.

I've said before he owes it to himself to coach proper football clubs, as opposed to the plastic, over-night ones. Whether he will or not, I dunno. Every club in world football would take him so he can do whatever he pleases.

I dont get these "Mourinho will go where he's gonna get a huge transfer budget" stories
He won the CL with Porto didnt he. He doesnt need billions to win trophies.
And again its like Rafa had nothing to spend, hilarious.
Like Rafa, he would get a very decent transfer budget, I'd trust him a lot more to use it wisely.

I don't think Mourinho would want gazillions to come here, but he would want a healty budget that for sure.

He has spent 80 mill £ this season with Inter, that twice of what Rafa has spent.

Juventus President Jean-Claude Blanc Flies Out To Liverpool To Present Rafael Benitez With An Offer
Reports in Italy claim Blanc is in Liverpool trying to tempt Benitez...

By Salvatore Landolina
Jan 28, 2010 2:16:00 PM

Juventus president Jean-Claude Blanc is taking swift action to land Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez sooner rather than later, claims Il Corriere Dello Sport.

The report claims Blanc has changed his strategy in terms of replacing current coach Ciro Ferrara. He has flown to Liverpool in order to untangle the issues surrounding Benitez and convince him to leave Anfield with immediate effect.

Blanc will use the unease in Merseyside to help sway Benitez. Liverpool's financial woes, as well as uncertainties between the club's board and the Spaniard could help push the move in Juve's favour.

However, there are no guarantees that Blanc's enthusiasm will pay off. As a result, Juve have deployed a second plan that will see Roberto Bettega in charge of bringing a short-term replacement that will take the team forwards until the end of the season.

Alberto Zaccheroni and Claudio Gentile are the favourites for this option. Further developments are expected and an announcement could arrive by the end of Thursday night's Coppa Italia fixture.

I would like to extend my gratitude to Jean-Claude and wish him the very best of luck in his endeavours.

Benitez was on Radio City before and stated that his priority was securing a right back because he wanted to use Carragher as a centre half. He also mentioned that he was using Degen as a winger. You don't need a right back Rafa. Think about it. And that's why I want him gone asap.

Be fair Sheik, when was the last time we spent big on a RB?

RB? he's mad.
Johnson should be back in a couple of weeks.

And you wonder where the Little Sheik gets it from ?

We DO need a right back. Degen's being used at RM because he couldn't defend Mother Teresa from a murder charge.

That said, IMO we should be using ressies and youngsters there instead of spending scarce transfer cash on it.

Who did Porto play in the Final?
He won't come to us if we have no money.

As opposed to a manager who would choose a job that is likely to dent an impressive resume? He built his reputation at a small club and has since taken the ball and run with it. I'm currently being offered a pharmacy manager position where I'm not sure the resources are there for me to thrive and make a mark. I'm leaning towards turning it down currently. I'm no Jose Mourinho but I can understand why he would be reluctant to jump from the frying pan into the fire.

We don't know for certain what exactly Mourinho would demand so anything we speak of is speculation. We don't know for certain what the owners have in store for the summer so anything we speak of is speculation.

A RB? Fucking hell.

Degen can't be worse than Carra was the other day against Spurs. Play him there against the shit teams and Carra, if we must, against the better ones.
