Inter have just won a treble and lost the best manager in world football.
They've won the title four (well, five I suppose, including the scandal one) times on the bounce.

I have a feeling that Benitez's tenure there may be rather shorther than that which he enjoyed at Liverpool and Valencia. The only way they can go is down.

And the very least they will demand is the title.

He'll be back in Spain in a year.

I dunno Brendan. Like Valencia, Rafa will be given a fantastic squad which needs little to no tweaking. I think he'll do well in this situation. I wouldn't be surprised to see Inter get far in Europe and win the Scudetto gain ... Time will tell.

We'll see, but I gather the prospect of his appointment isn't being greeted with universal approval by Inter fans.

I'd be willing to wager that whomever takes over at LFC won't be greeted with universal approval. Fickle fans are part the nature of the business.

Hopefully we'll get lucky, start with low expectations and be pleasantly surprised.

Worst case scenario is that we get a real high-flyer (say Lippi) and he bombs. I don't think I could take it.

No pressure on the new guy obviously...

Sheesh, how long can we expect these kind of "I wish Rafa was still the Gaffa" posts? He was let go. There's enough 'smoke' that our best players no longer wanted to play for him, including Torres - whom you've linked stories to how he appreciated Rafa for making him a better player, and now wanted him out - & Stevie G.

He did a phenomenal job in Spain. He may take the best team in Italy now, and who knows - do well too. But he just couldn't do it with us for whatever reason. Shit happens.

He'll do well for a couple of years since the only credible challenger to Serie A right now is Roma. Juve and AC Milan are starting again with new managers.

But then he'll fall out with Marco Branca and Moratti and get the boot.

Juve will be up there next year, with a good coach lined up and 75 mill to spend. But yeah, the gap between the good and the crap teams is big to say the least.

Anything other than winning the league will be seen as a failure.

La Gazzetto dello Sport seems to think Rafa will take Mauricio Pellegrino, Paco De Miguel and Xavi Valero with him to Inter.

See ya Pelle

We should charge them £6m in compensation.

I don't know much about Pac and Valero, but our defence worsened since the appointment of Pellegrino.

Well if I were an inter fan and benitez delivers the champs league I'll be chuffed. No team has won it consecutively in the new format.
