I see what you're saying, but I'd sooner spend that money than end up with a less effective balance to the squad/team.
I think it would give us more balance not less. we have one left back and several players that could play right midfield.
fuck it, now rafa is gone I don't have to hide my feelings anymore, I can't stand kuyt mwha ha ha ha.

ohhh that felt good to get off my chest
No offence Neil, but given your love for that lazy, useless twat on the left wing, forgive me if I don't give much credence to your reasoning for not rating Kuyt. He's isn't fast and capable of scoring a 30 yarder once every 25 games.
its your choice if you want to bring up babel to counter the arguement of kuyt but babel isn't on 90 a week, doesn't play regardless of form, wasn't bought as a striker and then shifted to the wing because he couldn't cut it in that position and isn't blocking the path of people more talented than he is in the position he hogs week after week.
And I wonder why that is ?

People more talented like who? Maxi? Who contributes more directly?

I brought up Babel because that's the kind of player you rate, so it gives credence to the point that your views on Kuyt are neither here nor there, you don't rate him because he doesn't fit the mould of what kind of player you like, while Ryan Babel (for the love of God), clearly does.

the babel experiement hasn't worked out we all know that and I wont lie, I definately think fast and direct players should be in wide positions especially for teams where 99.999999% of the oppostion are going to park the bus.
as someone said there is a place for kuyt in the squad, but in the team week after week in a wide position regardless of form? no thanks.

Moratti: 'It's true, Inter want Benitez'
Sunday 6 June, 2010
“It’s true, we are leaning towards Rafa Benitez and in the next few days we’ll decide,†confirmed Inter President Massimo Moratti.

The Spaniard is now free from his Liverpool contract after terminating the deal by mutual consent this week.

“I can only speak highly of him, because he is very talented,†Moratti told the Corriere dello Sport in an exclusive interview.

“It’s true, we are leaning towards Benitez and in the next few days we’ll decide.â€

The Nerazzurri patron had originally wanted either Fabio Capello or Guus Hiddink, but both turned down the chance because they wish to complete their international work with England and Turkey respectively.

“I know Benitez has a good record against Jose Mourinho, I think he’s beaten him five times.

“That’s a sign he does his research, works well and above all does not get the big games wrong.

“It is also important that he has already made his mark in Europe. We want to achieve more in this area.â€

It is reported that director Marco Branca will begin formal negotiations with Benitez today, as the former Liverpool Coach is currently in Sardinia on vacation.

He is expected to reach Milan tomorrow so that he can pen a contract by Tuesday.

I hope he doesn't win it. Fuck that.

Unless he's playing United or Chelsea or Real Madrid or Barca or someone like that, of course

You don't understand, Neil, Brendan hates every other team.

I don't want inter to win anything ever, regardless of manager.
Yep. I hate some more than others, and generally speaking, I don't give a fuck what ex-players or ex-managers achieve after they leave Liverpool, unless it's them vs a team I hate more. Any success they have outside of Liverpool is largely irrelevant to me

Eg all the Fulham fervour with ex-red Superdanny as captain

Bollocks. Delighted they lost.

I'd make an exception for anyone I truly *loved* like Sami, or Didi, who never wanted to leave, and probably should have stayed longer

Hope both Kuyt and Mascher will give the new manager a chance. Rafa can have Lucas, Aurelio and Babel.

Almost.

Ha ha. Infuckingdeed.

Sheesh, how long can we expect these kind of "I wish Rafa was still the Gaffa" posts? He was let go. There's enough 'smoke' that our best players no longer wanted to play for him, including Torres - whom you've linked stories to how he appreciated Rafa for making him a better player, and now wanted him out - & Stevie G.

He did a phenomenal job in Spain. He may take the best team in Italy now, and who knows - do well too. But he just couldn't do it with us for whatever reason. Shit happens.

Rafa 'close' to three-year Inter deal

Moratti: Close to Benitez appointment

Inter president Massimo Moratti has indicated a deal is imminent to make Rafael Benitez the Serie A club's new head coach.

The Spaniard, who left his post at Liverpool by mutual consent last Thursday, has been strongly linked with the post after Jose Mourinho's departure for Real Madrid.

And Moratti told reporters in Italy: "The next few hours could be decisive. But we must ask (technical director Marco) Branca."

Benitez appears set to take his Anfield assistant Mauricio Pellegrino, goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero and fitness coach Paco de Miguel with him to the San Siro, with Italian Amedeo Carboni - who played under Benitez as a midfielder at Valencia - also likely to be added to his backroom staff.

Reports in Italy suggest Benitez will sign a three-year deal worth five million euros per season.

Benitez earned a place in Anfield folklore by guiding Liverpool to 2005 Champions League glory in his first season.

He followed that with FA Cup success in 2006 and another Champions League final appearance 12 months later. After finishing runners-up in the Premier League in 2009, many expected a serious title tilt this year but it failed to materialise.

Early elimination from the Champions League was followed by a failure to finish in the top four and to re-qualify for Europe's elite event.

The 50-year-old had four years remaining on his contract but paid the price for that seventh-placed finish.

He had previously been linked with both Real and Juventus, who last month appointed former Sampdoria boss Luigi del Neri as Alberto Zaccheroni's successor.

Inter have just won a treble and lost the best manager in world football.
They've won the title four (well, five I suppose, including the scandal one) times on the bounce.

I have a feeling that Benitez's tenure there may be rather shorther than that which he enjoyed at Liverpool and Valencia. The only way they can go is down.

And the very least they will demand is the title.

He'll be back in Spain in a year.

You surely have to admit that whilst the European Champions are courting our Managerial cast-offs and we are getting together a list of Grandfathers it's causing some anxiety?

No disrespect to Grandads of course.

I dunno Brendan. Like Valencia, Rafa will be given a fantastic squad which needs little to no tweaking. I think he'll do well in this situation. I wouldn't be surprised to see Inter get far in Europe and win the Scudetto gain ... Time will tell.

Tbh, this past season really drained me as a fan. It was just depressing in a way that has allowed me to have very few expectation for this season. I'm hoping (how sad is this) for us to somehow get 4th place, and if we're lucky, stabilize slightly financially. As my expectations are so low, I'm not really that bothered by our manager search ...

Not really; any manager we get will have an inferior record to Rafa, that's a given. We've made a gamble, one which I think is correct. Hopefull its proven right.
