Quick question regarding Mark Lawrenson

Being an OOT I'm often not privy to some of the more scurrilous gossip when it comes to players and ex-players - So I wanted to ask my fellow 6CMer's their opinion on Mark Lawrenson.

I came across this article by 'The Anfield Wrap' - http://www.theanfieldwrap.com/2011/09/an-open-letter-to-lawro/

I remember the comments he made last year regarding Hillsborough and was pretty appalled by them. If I recall correctly he was essentially saying that LFC fans might have to face up to some hard 'truths' about that day and that findings of the HIP might not show LFCs fans in a good light.

There are several week old 'Lawro' articles out now on the BBC etc where he deplores the actions of the police etc.

If you read the article above is any of it true do you think? It seems a bit sensationalist - A bit like some scientology smear campaign. Anyway did he really try and push a granny under a bus? Expose himself to women in nightclubs and try and pull Mick McCarthy's wife? And what's your general view of the guy? Cheers.

Nothing wrong with that article. Those examples (granny under a bus etc.) aren't genuine - the point they're making is that they're as unfounded as the stuff Lawrenson himself came out with last year, goodness knows how long after the Taylor Report.

Overall Lawrenson's a slimy, two-faced, snidey cnut who takes 99 opportunities out of every 100 to have a pop at us, call decisions against us when he's acting as "expert summariser" etc. I have absolutely no problem with ex-players slating us when we deserve it (Jocky does it plenty) but that's all Lawrenson EVER does. Whether he's just trying too hard to be unbiased, as some occasionally try to say in his defence, or whether he just enjoys having the freedom to bite the hand that fed him during his playing career, I don't know and I don't care. Now and again he tries to claim he wants LFC to do well, but his actions always betray him. Last time he turned up on the terraces at Anfield he was booed to f'ck, and rightly so.

The thing is, in a few months, and then for the rest of my life, I will have forgotten where I heard this and that it was all made up and all I'll remember is that there were some rumours that Mark Lwrenson killed a granny and flashed to loads of women in Liverpool and I'll be in a pub and he'll come up in conversation and I'll be completely convincing in telling people about it.
