Question re: new Stadium

That original plan sounds radical and complicated.

Surely it would be better to re-use the space the current stands take up and allow phased construction.

The original plan for redeveloping Anfield meant turning the pitch through 90% so the Centenary was at one end and a redeveloped main stand was at the other the Kop and a new Anfield Road stand would be at the side as we can move back from the existing main stand and sideways into Anfield Road.
As Avvy said one of the issues was the loss of revenue and inability to guarantee all season ticket holder tickets for two years, plus relocating them during this period it also meant no one else other than season ticket holder in the ground for that period apart from the really shit games.

If the club announces/pleads for season ticket holders to attend alternative games, would that really be well received?

It will be like they will only be getting half the value for the money they pay out, but is it a price the fans could pay for a season for greater longterm gain? The club could may be throw in some other sweeteners to soften the financial blow to the average fan?

Hahahaha I have two tickets and for the greater good of every other fucker I am going to chuck £800 down the grid, or perhaps everyone else on here who does not go to the game can do their bit by making up some of the shortfall of the lads that do have season tickets , and therefore make themselves feel better ...........I don't think so. 😉

Peter you are right it is a bonkers idea, and I agree with Portly it does seem a shame to flatten what is a decent stadium, but we have to do what we have to do, Arsenal did and have not looked back. We are going to get wrapped up in the sentimentality issue and not the practicality one. If I had my way we would have built a big fuck of stadium on the Silcocks compound in Speke, ideal transport links and an industrial area where we don't have to worry about neighbours or Victorian parks etc .
Still before that we have to get the team firing on nearly all cylinders.

If the old farts here are in favour of redevelopment I have no objections as I have yet to make my pilgrimage to Anfield and meet some of the older chums here. Hopefully within the next 3 - 4 years I will be there with one or two of my sons.

Lol...not my intention.

The problem was limited seats being available during refurbishing of the stands, and the possibility of not being able to provide a seat for all Season ticket holders. If the club halved the season ticket subscription for the year and said you can only attend alternative.......

Yeah, you are right it is a rubbish idea all around.

Is it really not possible to fully refurbish at least one stand during the off season? If we can increase the capacity by another 2,000 or 3,000 seats for each stand and build better hospitality facilities, it should do the trick?

Can we really think about trying to make Arsenal kind of money from a stadium in Liverpool...new or old? If it's just a pipe dream, then refurbishing Anfield may well be the better idea.

Redevelopment sounds more realistic, if they can get it up to 60,000 and improve hospitality, why not.

I think Anfield would have to be renamed, to pay for it, like the emirates, but the fans will just call it Anfield anyway.

Probably not mate because it won't be Anfield.

What do Arsenal fans call the Emirates? 'The Emirates' I'd guess.

Yeah, but that was a new stadium even if it was not far away from the old one. If Highbury had been redeveloped and renamed "The Emirates," I guess the Gooners would still call it Highbury.

A possibility would be to call it "____________ Pitch at Anfield".

Should we then have to change "this is anfeld" sign to "this is __________ pitch at Anfield". Sounds a bit tedious, and it certainly does not have that x factor about it...the air of importance. That feeling when players touch the sign.
