Broughton mentioned in his interview that the new owners would either look at developing Anfield or building on a new site.
Unfortunately, I've never been to Anfield, nor do I know the area around Anfield but from my limited understanding, it can't be developed any further. Is this true or do the "new" yanks know something we don't?

Then that would be ideal wouldn't it? Liverpool FC is Anfield and Anfield is Liverpool FC. I can't imagine it any other way.

How much do you think is the max capacity we can get by developing further?

Apart from the Main Stand, most of the Anfield stadium was built in the recent past. I have always thought it would be a shame to smash down a perfectly decent stadium to build another one nearby, offering only another 10,000 or so seats.

Maybe Henry will aim for a new Main Stand with bigger capacity. When he took over Fenway Park, he refurbished the existing stadium instead of building a new one.

In case nobody has posted it elsewhere, here is the press announcement from New England Sports Ventures

http://www.nesn.com/2010/10/statement-on-the-purchase-of-liverpool-fc.html

Someone on another site, claimed there was a scenario sketched out that would increase the capacity to 60k with corporate boxes and VIP whathaveyounots.

You could build a stand over Anny Road. There's nothing behind there.
There's also room where the Kop and Main Stand meet.

Depends if we buy the remaining houses backing on doesn't it?

'This is what I've heard also.
Ok, so if it is so, how many houses are we talking about?

Not too sure. Loads were bought and boarded but a few refused to leave. anyone got a more up to date thing on this?

I've heard that the Kop can't be developed further, is that right?

Could have sworn I just posted this anyway, redevelmnt would also cause disruptions in seats.

This kid of loss should be factored in too..

Well it can't to the effect that there is a road about 20 yards behind it. As Sheikh says, we could build a bigger stand at the Anny Road, in fact we could probably build another Kop on that side and we could knock up a bigger and more modern Main stand. One issue will be the reduced gate capacity during any construction. On the plus side, we should at least fill a reduced capacity stadium!

Let's move our home fixtures to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. We always win there. 8)

Hehehe! As long as someone sells jester hats outside I'll be up for it. The scooter riders might not like it though!

the kop's already massive so doesn't need redevelopment, i think it seats around 12,500 which makes it the biggest stand at anfield, or at the very least on a par with the main stand.

the plans i've read about centre around expanding the main stand and anfield road, as others have said.

Redeveloping Anfield would be a lovely idea if it's at all possible - but it's going to be fraught with problems.

To be honest the stadium right now comes secondary to a) the state of the squad and b) the manager.

I've gave up on any stadium long ago.

yep, da manager is da main issue for me too. just reading tha new signings thread, i find it impossible to get excited at the prospect of the bumbling old fucknut being backed in the market.

i really, really hope this good news doesn't lift the squad sufficiently to allow roy to still be in place in january.

I'm not so sure about his signings being so terrible though.

He's signed one rubbish player (Poulsen) out of 4 arguably (Meireles, Konchesky, Cole).

His problem is not knowing what to do wih them.

Yeah, I hope we stay in the relegation zone so we can just fuck the manager off.

I think sheik was being facetious...

in all seriousness, i do fink it'll be interesting 2 c how roy and da team respond to this news, whether it galvanizes them. i always held that one of da problems last season was da ownership pall hanging over da club, and that rafa wasn't given enough credit for having 2 work under it.

If this is sorted before the derby, we're running out of excuses to why we are shite.

The original plan for redeveloping Anfield meant turning the pitch through 90% so the Centenary was at one end and a redeveloped main stand was at the other the Kop and a new Anfield Road stand would be at the side as we can move back from the existing main stand and sideways into Anfield Road.
As Avvy said one of the issues was the loss of revenue and inability to guarantee all season ticket holder tickets for two years, plus relocating them during this period it also meant no one else other than season ticket holder in the ground for that period apart from the really shit games.

If the club announces/pleads for season ticket holders to attend alternative games, would that really be well received?

It will be like they will only be getting half the value for the money they pay out, but is it a price the fans could pay for a season for greater longterm gain? The club could may be throw in some other sweeteners to soften the financial blow to the average fan?

that plan's quite old though, isn't it? i think there have been other, less extreme, options mooted since then, although not necessarily by the club itself.

the plan you mention just sounds bizarre to me: would the kop be expanded sideways towards the new main stand? and wouldn't the centenary be too wide to fit at the end of the pitch? surely everything would be out of proportion? tbh the whole scheme sounds bonkers.

i'm pretty sure that whatever happens, it won't be this.
