Tidy and calm victory for once. We played very assured for the vast majority of the game, and were very professional. True, QPR were awful for the first half hour, but we took enough of our chances and then saw the game off.

You really are a Jekyll and Hyde character that has significant periods of relative sanity, interspersed with equal periods of semi delirious spoutings and faux controversial views.
Carragher has had his shortcomings over the years and is three seasons past his sell by date, if he was more cultured on and with the ball he would have been another fucking Maldini.

No I am being honest. If I remember it correctly most fans wanted to get rid of Carra in the late 90s.
Also I wouldn't call it Jekyll and Hyde, I'm not being cruel towards anyone. I've been quite vocal about Carra for the past few years. Especially when Gary Cahill was up for grabs.

Like I wrote earlier, he's a limited players talent wise and if he was more cultured on and with the ball, he'd probably be regarded as one of the best defenders in premier league history.
Right now I can probably name more than 10 defenders who are ahead of him in that list.

I actually agree from 05-09 he was really good. Doesn't make him a legend though, imo.

Those foure years do make him a club legend for me.

He was a good player and a great servant before then, his performances during that time were impeccable - up there with the best on the planet. His collection of performances, his attitude, his medals - they all guarantee him legend status.

I have to admit that I've never really been on board the "we dream of a team of Carraghers" train either as I tend to favour skill over determination when it comes to picking my favourites but the bottom line is that he's a Liverpool legend and deservedly so.

Cost nothing, gave us 15 years of service of which a good few were world class and loves Liverpool like nobody else at the club. You can't really ask for a whole lot more really.

We need to be careful using a word like legend. Saying that Carra is a legend to me, is like adding him to a list that contains players like Barnes, Hansen, Dalglish, Rush, Keegan, Gerrard etc players who were regarded as best in the country at their respective positions.
Was Carra ever the best defender in the club? Seems like we always had someone who overshadowed him, be it Babbel, Henchoz, Hyypia or Finnan. More recently Skrtel and Agger.

For the record do you lot reckon that Hyypia is a club legend?

Finnan was one of my favourite players. Very underrated.

I think he was trying too hard in the second half, but he was great in the first.

Sorry Modo and while I accept your not his biggest fan, being in the top what is it 3 players of all time for appearances in a side that has won trophies for the majority of time he has played does make him a club legend.
Consistency alone to be around this length of time is remarkable!

Yup, but I wonder if this is due to Lucas not being match fit. Hopefully there is a chain effect that when Lucas is fit the balance of the midfield improves.

I tell you what we are missing right now and something that Carragher has always done, is someone marshalling and organising the defence, none of the above including Hyppia could do that like Carragher has done.
