He's worth more to us than we'd fetch on the transfer market for him too
can't argue with that, I don't think dirk would fetch a lot of money.

Once again I disagree with the sell everyone and start from scratch theory. We would be further reducing the feasible margin of error available for a liverpool manager. And it is very easy in that scenario to get a couple of decisions wrong and end up getting stuck in the wrong half of the table for a long period. Our squad does not need major overhaul.

I see our position as similar to Arsenal just before Wenger came. If we can get in a couple of good quality attacking players for less than 20 million and a decent left back for around 10 million. Supplement the squad using some promising reserve players we could be challenging for the league. According to many we are only an Alonso, Arbeloa and attacking mentality away from a successful premier league campaign and there is merit in that statement.

Given such a scenario - there is no need for us to fully dismantle the existing setup and start from scratch.

the key is the owners allowing the manager (whoever he is) making purhases without forcing him to sell to pay for those purchases but that would require money they aren't willing to spend, instead they would load more debt on the club.

That said Babel is a fucking shithouse too and can hopefully fuck of with Rafa in summer.
In an ideal yet realistic world which players would you like to see us bring in this summer mate?
Youll have to give me an idea of what's realistic mate? Would I get all the money from sales? Would I get a regular budget? Tell me a ballpark and I'll fix our squad for you.
lol say we bring in £15 million from player sales - Riera, Babel etc and somehow get £30mil to spend on top of that.

So your budget is £45 million sir 😉
Well hold on, do I get 30m plus player sales or 30m plus up to 15m from player sales?
If I sell 100m worth of players do I get 130m?
Yes you have £45 million in total to spend.
Ok with your scenario, I'll bring in Bent 15m, Navas or Silva 20m and a 10m LB.
Reina
LB
Agger
Skrtel
Johnson
Gerrard
Mascherano
Aquilani
Navas
Bent
Torres.

But in my scenario I sell Torres, Gerrard, Riera, Benayoun, Babel, Lucas and Degen.
I'd be thinking along similar lines to you. We're not a top four team any more, and the chances of us getting back up there given the fact that City will spend heavily again this summer are getting slimmer. It's unlikely we're going to get back into the top four after one transfer window regardless of who the manager is.

If we tear it all down, get rid of the manager and offload some of the more expensive players entering the final third of their careers I'd be okay with that, Provided the new man is asked to develop his own talent at the club and bring through those who are on the cusp already, like Pacheco, and make sensible additions to the squad with the view to challenging for more than fourth a couple of years down the line.
Yup. Etch a sketch this motherfucker. 100m from sales build a young squad with hunger. Start.again.
I'm not necessarily disagreeing but you guys are making me feel pretty desolate right about now.

Rafa guaranteed we would get 4th spot. So you have to think he will resign soon.

A new manager would revitalize this side if we can keep it together, with 3 or 4 replacements.

But I think Torres is just going to think 'im 27 next year, ill be 28 if Liverpool can get back in the following year and that’s a big if'. If hes smart he will go this summer to be honest. It makes good career sense & his agent will be in his ear chasing the massive payout from it too. Same with Gerrard.

Id sack them all off get a young respected manager such as Laudrup in and build a young squad to try and compete a couple of years from now. Rebuilding might be the only option anyway as this group of players might be about to break up.

Two steps forward, two steps back.

Darren Ferguson is doing a good job of shipping the old guard out and promoting the kids at Preston. He'd be the ideal replacement for Rafa. Ha imagine.
