Pre season game 2: Preston (A)

I know Kilbane played for the bitters, but is he a red? He's always massively complimentary towards us and always seems to have decent knowledge about our players.

Rossiter has been a boss in midfield, he's just read everything and distributed it with a composure that belies his young years. Another who looks tailor made for us.

I thought Peterson looked better than Borini as the lone striker, probably cos he has more pace and more tricks in him.

Watching Borini there, as much as I do have a softspot for him, it reminded me of his shortfalls. He makes all the right runs and finds space constantly, but when the ball is played he always seems to react that split second too late.

Impressive seeing as he's not really played there. He's mainly played wide for the ressies.

Pre season to be fair

Yeah, a touch off, a step short, a second slow to a ball, to release a ball. Just lacks that extra something to star in a side such as ours. Borini and Lambert as a duo was plodding in the first half, didn't quite click.

There might actually be a good CB in Coates yet. Ilori (in the brief spell against Brondby) and him seem to have this calm casual air about them, somewhat like CBs who rely on their reading of the game, compared to the likes of Skrtel and Sakho who tend to be more tensed up and rely more on their physical strength and tackling to defend. Coates and Ilori seem like those cool dudes who don't need to get mud on their buttocks.

I'd like to see Coates get more games in the pre-season to see how he does. Has got 2 years left on his contract, so we have to make a decision on what his LFC future is like pretty soon.

Wasn't he playing there a fair bit for the ressies? I thought he alternated with Dunn in that role.

There was a lot of movement and interchange as per the first team but as far as I recall he spent most of his time attacking from wide positions.
