Well now, this is coming much more enjoyable..

Origi looked good (was it Stoke being bad or is he getting better)

Studge does need to smile more (sorry!)

Moreno - what a cracker.

What a difference almost a year makes. Still can't get over that 6-1 SHIT.

Bring on Dortmund!

Yep, much more enjoyable.

After the first 5 minutes I thought Stoke was beatable but there were still lots of nervy moments from the team especially Ojo; Milner and Stewart were mis-placing passes, Firmino looked out of sorts but Moreno scored a cracker, confidence started to grow after Sturridge scored. I thought Allen played well and barring the goal, the defence looked reasonable solid. Pleased for younguns especially Divock; confident display and good goals.

Little too late for the league but good omens for Dortmund.

Thats the problem with thiss team its just surprises you. One game we look like world beaters and next game we are shit. Makes it difficult deciding who to keep and whi to let go.

Last few months that's not really been the case though. Bar the 2nd half disaster at Southampton, we've been much more consistent...result and performance wise.

Not a high-quality game to say the least, which was especially noticeable in comparison with the terrific game in Dortmund. Stoke were so bad that if this game was in Ukrainian championship I would have been sure they are throwing the game for money. That defending on Origi's 1st goal was probably the worst I've seen all season – absolutely unbelievable at the top level of the game.

Not that this should take anything away from our players, some of whom produced excellent performances:

Mignolet 7. No chance for the goal, one typical sliced clearance under pressure, otherwise solid.
Clyne 6.5. Didn't have to work too hard in this game.
Skrtel 7.5. A very solid, professional performance from the veteran, showing that the Southampton disaster was probably just a case of rust and not much more.
Toure 6. Played several Stoke players onside TWICE from free-kicks, one of which was the goal. Otherwise no problem.
Moreno 7. Klopp said it was probably his best performance since he came in here and I think part of the reason was Klopp's tactics – Moreno essentially played as a wing-back in this game, with no left-sided midfielder in front of him and Stewart and Toure covering on defense. If Moreno has any future at Liverpool, it's probably in this kind of tactical system.
Stewart 5.5. I thought he was quite nervous from the start and after getting his passes intercepted a few times he started passing only sideways. Defensively mostly OK except for some unnecessary fouls. Have to say he looked much better in those cup games; hope he can recover the confidence he showed before the injury. Will Klopp give him another chance?
Allen 6.5. Decent.
Milner 8 MOM. His best LFC performance I can remember; finally looked at ease with the captain's armband and was popping up everywhere with some good quality too. Didn't stop running even at 4:1 in the 90th minute and really set the tone of the game for his teammates.
Sturridge 7. He was enjoying himself in that striker-playmaker role and he makes his teammates better by demanding the right kind of passes from the them and turning the provider himself (that back-heel pass to Moreno!). The defensive side of the game seems to be coming more naturally too; this is the first game since coming back where he didn't seem always half-step slow on the press. Not quite vintage Sturridge yet, but showing his class.
Ojo 6. Produced one moment of real quality for his first PL assist, otherwise looked pretty raw and lightweight. But those glimpses of quality are all he needs for now to stay in Klopp's plans and he didn't do himself any harm in this game. Subbed off at half-time.
Firmino 6. Didn't do anything memorable in attack, but worked hard in the press and almost got rewarded with the goal. Didn't Suarez score a similar one in 2013-14?

SUBS:
Origi 8. Not bad for a non-scoring striker! Signs of a promising partnership between him and Sturridge.
Lallana n/a
Lucas n/a

Klopp 7.5 Chose a pretty surprising lineup, opting to rotate the CBs and keep the full-backs (who I thought needed rest more than the CBs). Happy for Stewart and Ojo, but disappointed for Brannagan, Flanagan and Ibe being omitted altogether from the squad; hope they will get more chances. Bonus points for the irritating the heck out of Mark Hughes.

I didn't see the game, but it sounds like allen and Stewart were universally praised.

Stewart wasn't bad, but he wasn't good either, just an average game, I think a few people are giving him an extra mark or two because he's kid, something I'm completely fine with, these games are more about growing his confidence and getting him used to the first team.

I also wouldn't say Ojo is lightweight - he's put on a lot of upper body muscle since he first arrived. While he did go down to ground too easily in the first half an hour of the game, it wasn't because of the physical challenges - he was just rather divey in an attempt to earn cheap free kicks, like Sturridge is wont to do at times, and Lallana was doing last season. Pieters did take him down hard once though and deserved his booking.

He's not a kid. And he's wonderfully effective at what he does. I suggest you watch him more closely. Or don't.

Was very sceptical regarding Ojo's prospects, but he has surprised me a lot. He unlike Ibe seems to have something between his shoulders. Might have a future in the team. Ibe however, looks to be taking the Thomas Ince, Paul Anderson, Adam Hammill route.

I'm not saying he isn't, just that he was pretty average yesterday, and someone who's 22 in their break out season classes as a kid to me.

Ok. I reckon a player who's 22 is beyond being a kid, but I take the point about this season. I really like him. Gets it, gives it, covers well, reads the game. It's a bit like Allen to me. When they are quietly effective people think they haven't done much. It's like when Whelan went into middle with McMahon and McMahon was the one to bomb on. Loads of people gave Ronnie stick for being subdued and seemingly anonymous, but actually his linking play was vital. Well, we'll see I guess, but I'd like to see him as part of the squad next year.

Couldn't agree more.

According to Whoscored he was the 5th best player on our team. Best passing accuracy and second in tackles total. I'd say that warrants a 7 and a job well done.
Considering he is coming back from injury aswell I was very impressed.

There was a few nervy moments and conceding two setpiece goals in a week is annoying, especially given that the Time Bandits managed to create and score a header on Sunday. But overall, we deserved to win and the players who came in for the injured/ suspended/ rested players did well.

Mignolet (7) Another solid performance in quite difficult and windy conditions. Will be very upset about the lack of marking that allowed Randall and Vermin to combine for a HEADED goal, but otherwise safe and sound.

Moreno (8) Built on his display against Dortmund with another impressive, energetic performance, capped by a fine goal. He should score more with his ability.

Skrtel (7) Showed his lack of playing time in the early stages with some less than assured tackling and passing, but grew in composure and had Crouch under control.

Toure (6) Disorganised for the goal and occasionally unaware of the offside line he was trying to hold, but apart from that did pretty well.

Clyne (8) Probably the pick of the defence from a purely defensive perspective, but also did good work in the opposition half. Fine game indeed.

Stewart (6) Started very poorly and was hacking the ball around like a pissed-up golfer in a bunker, but eventually cleared his head and eased himself into the game. By the second half he was smoothly breaking up attacks and playing the ball around economically and cleverly, despite conceding one or two uneccessary fouls

Allen (7) Consistent and calm, he was typically busy and never allowed Stoke's midfield to settle or impose themselves.

Milner (8) On a very good run of form, this was another impressive display from the ever-reliable Milner, who cajoled, worked, used the ball well, pressed hard and created several good chances on top of the ones that were converted. MOTM.

Ojo (6) Only got one half, but showed some great pace and impressive skills, and set up Sturridge's goal with aplomb.

Firmino (4) Appalling first half, in which he wasn't even "peripheral", he improved when moved more centrally, but still did nothing of any note.

Sturridge (7) Worked hard, lovely skills and touch, great goal, especially impressive in the first half with Ojo, but showed good potential with Origi also.

Subs:

Origi (8) Two more goals, you can't really ask for more from a striker. the second was an obvious fluke, as his attempted cross somehow went in, but his first was a powerful header and he was too strong and powerful for Stoke to keep a handle on.

Milner (8) On a very good run of form, this was another impressive display from the ever-reliable Milner, who cajoled, worked, used the ball well, pressed hard and created several good chances on top of the ones that were converted. MOTM.

We must be two of Milner's biggest fans on here. I'd play him every week. Solid pro.

I hadn't noticed. Is he not popular?

I've always liked Milner even before he played for us. Good player and an asset to any squad with his temperament and versatility.

He's consistent. Never going to be as lauded as your Gerrards or Delle Alis, and lacks their bit of magic and excellence, but every top squad needs - and should value - a player like Milner

Milner is the new Kuyt. Not from a goals or play perspective but that sheer determination and energy is contagious. Definitely come into his own since the start of the season as well

Loads of people on here rate Milner I think.
He's gotten better and better and has had some really good performances of late.

There are also maybe only a few Firmino doubters left.

Everyone says you know what you're getting with Milner, I fucking don't. He's a really strange footballer.

Yeah, I think this is a good comparison. Not stunning in terms of ability, but in terms of determination and to give every ounce of energy every time.

Milner and Sturridge have annoying habits of dishing out advise to other players. Especially to young players. They have no business doing so, neither of them are qualified coaches and would have been more productive if they just worried about themselves.

I know they mean well, but their dumb advice has very likely contributed to the sudden shitness of Ibe.

Ha.

Yes, it's like a non-lawyer giving legal advice and expecting to be taken seriously....
