A few us were saying 1+ months ago to let Smith try and show what he can do ...

As for goalie - I don't think ward is ready for this (he may never be) and playing games now will destroy Mign's confidence. We're stuck with him - for better or worse - until we inshallah replace him in the summer. If we don't, I will be blown afuckingway.

I think that Mignolet will be replaced as our number one in the summer. IMO he got the new deal because Klopp wanted to show that he trust him. I also believe that Achterberg will be replaced. No point signing a new keeper if we keep him.

Lucas should be our Captain next season. Many of you moan that we need more physical players but at the same time moan when the players we have play physical and give away freekicks. If you play physical then you will make a few fouls every game. It is laughable that some of you even don't understand that.

Lucas makes a few fouls every game but that is because he is our most physical player by some distance.

Really? He recovered from yesterday's howler to pull off a string of incredible saves and looked very assured. He needs to be replaced but I'm not worried about his confidence for the remainder of this season. He'll continue doing what he does...he'll make horrible mistakes and pull off stunning saves.

Yes Mignolet was at fault for the goal, but ultimately he performed admirably after that howler, and kept us in it.

Mignolet made some good saves by staying big but the crucial thing is that he let a goal in that a top keeper would save out. I think a top keeper would also expect to make the other saves Mignolet did too.

My thoughts have meandered to the conclusion that I'm fed up with the sheer level of incompetence our 'squad' displays on a regular basis.

We're flakier than a flaky thing.

I hope Klopp can do miracles because I think he'll need to.

Mignolet made one mistake all afternoon and it cost us a goal. Lucas made one too...missing the penalty to put us 2-0 up in the shootout. Both individual mistakes that cost us dear but take a cold heart look at their performances in the game and without either we'd have been hammered.

To paraphrase an old quote "Thank you for a cup final now fuck off".
I'm kidding, though I did think it for all of 30s after the game.

If Moreno doesn't get dropped after that horror show, then I dispair. I really do. He shouldn't be playing/starting for us next season, so give young Smith a go.

Mignolet did well but it's pointless when he had already put us on the back foot with his customary once a game error.

Lucas looks a beast in defense. Keep him there, he's the best we've got at the minute and he keeps us organised, he's also excellent in the air. I wonder what him and Skrtel would be like?

You can't really call the penalty an individual error Peggy, that's way too harsh. It's a lottery really, he's put away every other one with aplomb.

We just didn't have luck on our side and if truth be told, had Sterling and Aguero put away their chances (and the pen been given) we could have been realistically on the end of a battering. They deserved it. We've had luck on our side in shoot-outs for years, it was bound to turn the other way at some point.

I meant that playing Ward now would destroy Ming's confidence (not that Mign playing now would hurt his confidence).

Lucas was out motm by a mile and looks great at CB. Early days yet, but if he can keep that up that's a key position sorted for a while.

I think LUCAS is too good to be our captain - he should be our MESSIAH.

Laugh all you want. I said that Lucas is our best central defender and more and more fans agree with me. He also act like a Captain on and off the pitch. He isn't our Messiah but he is our best defensive player.

This post have been fined £500 by LeTallecWiz. The money will go to the bill he got after he celebrated Lucas penalty miss.

Sorry Sweden - I don't celebrate when players on the team I support make mistakes ... I'm not that kind of fan.

Peter wanted us to lose to get Rodgers to lose ... but if I had to single out another fan who would celebrate if we lost regardless of the reason it would probably be someone who constantly puts one player ahead of the club ... He would probably celebrate if he was dropped and we lost and scream, "I told you so" ... Know anyone like that?

There's something about Lucas that doesn't seem right. City were awarded a corner kick at one point when Lucas was trying hard to spur his teammates on by clapping and mouthing a few words it almost seemed like he was talking to himself.

Ming made a horrible mistake for the goal and needs replacing pronto.

I've been patient with Moreno but we can't keep tolerating that kind of ineptitude. There are enough decent fullbacks out there to not have to.

Ultimately the better side won and we were pretty lucky to get to pens. I'm not used to seeing a Liverpool side perform so badly in a pen shoutout tho- that was disappointing.

Can we not bin this Arn fella..?

Ever thread turns into a Lucas love in/ argument and the disease is spreading

Lucas was great and his performance Yesterday deserves it's plaudits... But I still think he won't be here next season regardless.. He is too clumsy to be a competent CB on a full time basis..

To keep him here another season would be yet another step backwards..

He has been a great servant to the club, but it's time for him to Finally move on..

Sorry but I never put any player before the club. I support the club, not a player. I don't care who we sell or buy because I trust Klopp. He know how to build a squad. I just hope that our owners allow him to do it. It must be 100% his decision who we sell and buy.

I don't care if Lucas is a part of our squad next season because if he is sold then Klopp will replace with a player he think is better and that is good enough for me.

This season Lucas has been one of our best players but that isn't that difficult. If some of you think that I should be banned then a lot of the Lucas "haters" should also be banned because they have their agenda in thread after thread. Why don't moan about that?

What I never will accept is that a player whoever it is get insulted without any reason at all. Mignolet is another player that get a lot of stick but we don't know how good he is because of Achterberg. Every keeper that is coached by him end up making the same errors.

I blame Mignolet for the many errors he done but I also try to figure out why he is doing them, I don't just moan.

Moreno get a lot of stick but we don't know if he is told to play very attacking. He don't get much help either. Our attacking three play very narrow and that means that our wingbacks must cover a lot of ground. Milner usually help out on the right side and that is probably a reason to why that side look a lot better.

We don't really have any players at the moment that give fans some level of anticipation when they get the ball. Compare with City - Toure (if he can be arsed), Silva, Aguero and to a lesser extent Sterling get the ball in advanced areas and you expect them to do something with it. Whereas our players, it's more hope than expectation. It's been so long since Sturridge was fit and in form I've forgotten whether there was that same expectation with him, but I don't think it's ever been there with Coutinho, it hasn't with Firmino and certainly hadn't with any of our other players.

I don't know whether it's a lack of talent or an inability to take responsibility. Probably a bit of both. Can has a little of that belligerence in his game, and Milner/Henderson can certainly scrap, but there's no fear factor for the opposition when they get the ball.

I genuinely feel like we've got a squad made up of supporting acts at the moment. The negative to that is that you can't really count on any of them to give a great performance. The plus side is that I think we have the sort of players that will raise their game with a very good spine. I don't think we have a squad that needs gutting, but there isn't really any point in signing more 'squad players' because that won't benefit us worth talking about. We need top class players because that will give the opposition more to think about, will give us a better chance of winning games (obviously) but will also give our own players more belief.

There are, however, a few players I would cheerfully get rid of in the summer, mostly in defence.

Blimey, I know we lost and we are all disappointed but you'd have thought we were battered by some relegation threatened strugglers reading this and the match thread. It would seem that some expect us to batter all and sundry Barcelona style whoever we are playing. We were playing the most expensive team in the league who had two extra days to prepare with three players not fully match fit, add to that an enforced sub in the first 20 mins. The first half was 50/50 and most of their chances came after their goal when we were chasing the game. I thought we battled really well to get back in the game against two banks of defenders playing very deep. You have to say that with Kompany fit organising the defence they were always going to be difficult to break down. They are a good side, we didn't play badly, we took the game to them, we were not limp, on another day we could have won.
Of course we have our deficiencies, they are there for all to see, but under the circumstances nothing to be ashamed of in that performance.

Lucas has had some great games this year, and been utter shite in others. That's what you get with players at his level. I'd actually like him as a squad option next year - but hey, you're too busy Lucasing around the forum to realize not all of us are Lucas Haters, we just view him for what he is.

As for your comments on Mign and Moreno - you're basically attributing their consistent mental mistakes to 'poor coaching.' Sorry, if a player isn't good enough, he isn't good enough. After watching them for ~2 years, I don't see them as having the necessary MENTAL qualities to be starters on a team that aspires to be a title contender.

Klopp will need another year just to weed out the average squad Rodgers/TC built. I don't think we can even judge him then unfortunately as there's a shitload of work to do.

IMO a lot of it comes down to fitness after a few months of the season and that is the reason to why a lot of youngsters that get a chance at this stage look a lot better than they really are.
