I hope he can recover mentally from that -

A dislocated shoulder, if thats what it is, would keep him out for a few weeks but probably not the whole torunament. Its likely Egypt would gamble on his fitness and give him every chance to make it.

If Karius was a Spartan he’d have been savaged by wolves when he was an infant.

We don’t need weak pointless meaningless non entities

Lawro saying he has to choose between an operation to fix it (out of the WC) or rest and repair and it will now happen again in the future. Not sure if he's right about that but there seems to be some logic.

Yeah, it's likely they will bring him along. It is not like they are bursting with talents.

In hindsight - he made the wrong sub with Lallana.
I actually think Solanke (don't know who the subs were!) would have been better here - put him in the middle, let Bobby neutralize the left/right flank and Mane do his thing.
Oh well, 20/20

To be fair Solanke has looked out of his depth against midtable premier league sides so this would have been a huge gamble for him.

Our bench tells its own story, Can, Clyne and Lallana half fit, Solanke totally unproven at this level, Klavan and Moreno are journeymen.

I've not checked on here tonight so not sure what's been said in the match thread, but surprised by some of the comments in this.

I thought Real were average. Sure, they kept the ball well - they do that, they've got some great players. But did they put in a great performance? No. They didn't have to and if it came down to it, I don't think they would have.

I've said before that I've felt like our season was being final destinationed what with the injuries and tonight it just got turned up to 11. It feels like the game and our season was stolen away from us.

The team played well all things considered. We started really well, were on top. And then Ramos did Salah. He brought him down, could've let go of his arm and didn't. It was really dirty and probably won them the tie. No one will care or remember because why would they, but what a cunt. From that point on we struggled, heads dropped, played far too deep and found it hard to keep the ball as there was no real out ball. But even so, it's not like Real were killing us out there. We defended pretty well all in all.

Enter Karius.

That was one of the worst goalkeeping display I've ever seen. And when you consider the magnitude of the game, it becomes THE worst. The mistakes just get worse with every replay. And he got caught in no mans land for the Isco chance. The other pundits were being a bit nicer about it but Lampard, in that quote, tells it like it is - he killed us out there. Surely he's done now. We watched closely after the match and not one Liverpool player went over to him after the game. A couple Real players eventually went over and then one of the coaches.

Depends if hes dislocated the shoulder or broken his colarbone. Hes out if its a break, hes got a chance if its a dislocation.

He’ll most likely miss the WC I reckon. Shoulder or collarbone, but its at least 3-4 weeks. Probably more.

The lack of quality in reserve (from the bench) bit us on the arse today.

As well as the lack of quality in midfield (no drive without the Ox).

Also, a calamitous goalkeeping display (obviously).

It's hard to get upset here. I expected us to lose after Salah went off. The fact we defended well enough and lost to 2 goalkeeping errors, means the analysis of the game is pretty simple. I can't really say we could have done much better.

The boys done us proud today (save Loris; pun not intended).

10 mins ago:

Jurgen Klopp has given an update on the injury to Mo Salah in his post-match press conference, and it isn't good news.
He said: “It’s a serious injury, a really serious injury. He is in the hospital for an X-ray. It’s either the collarbone or the shoulder itself. It doesn’t look good, that’s it.”

He was poor although it still took an unreal last ditch tackle and a streaker to stop him.

It's all opinions. I thought they were a different class from the moment Salah went off.
No, he would have been poor if he’d had a load of chances and missed them or was wasteful in possession. He wasn’t poor, we just didn’t give him a sniff. And they weren’t different class when Salah went off...but if a team loses their best player they’re bound to dip...and we did...and the opposition is bound to be lifted...and they were.

That game was won and lost on half a dozen key moments, no more than that.

Lets not sugar coat it.. Up until Salah went off, we were the better team. Afterwards, like on many other occassions this season. We were a shadow of ourselves.

I heard some people saying Ramos injured him deliberately and should have been sent off. Do I believe the former? Yes. Should he have been sent off? No. He got lucky. 99 times out of 100 he'd have landed differently got up. It was a yellow though for a cynical foul.

Karius karius karius. I felt sorry for him at full time. Where was Captain Hendo? He is a fucking woeful captain to go with an average keeper.

Hendo was awol today. As was Bobby really.

Credit to Bale for his overhead. That was geniunely world class. One of the greatest goals ever.

Ratings:

Karius - 3 - Two errors, two costly errors, two career defining errors. His limitations exposed cruely on the biggest of stages. WE NEED A NEW KEEPER JURGEN!! PLEASE??

Robbo - 7 - Solid, a few robust challenges. Could have crossed better.

Lovren - 7 - Geniunely did well, still I think we need an upgrade. Alderweireld is available Jurgen! Get him!!

VVD - 7.5 - I thought he played well.

Trent - 7 - see Robbo

Gini - 6 probably the pick of the midfield for me. Still, was 2nd best to their midfield.

Hendo - 2 - I just don't get it, some here love him. Some here think me, modo and others hate him unnecessarily. No, he really isn't going to win us any finals as a captain. He's not a captain. Even Gareth smacked in the face with a frying pan Southgate knows that. I just never saw him do anything positive. Even when Karius threw the ball to Benzema, any captain worth his salt would have consoled him, told him chin up. Same at the full time whistle too. Anyway, rant over.

Milner - 5 - lost the battle.

Salah - 6 - was just getting into it. So cruel, hope his world cup isn't over, even if it is good news for him being fresh for next season.

Mane - 7 - pick of our front 3. Good finish.

Bobby - 4 - I can't decide if he was poor, or he was well marshalled. Probably a combination of both.

Subs
Lallana - 4 - looked well off the pace

Can - N/A - did he even touch the ball?

Klopp - 4 - where was big Dom when your team are crossing from all angles? Once again, found wanting on the biggest stage. However.. In Jurgen I trust. I love watching us play. Big summer coming up.

Should of been the bloody team bus..

Anyway here's some ratings (too despondent to give anything but figures) :

Karius : not going there
Robertson : 7.5 (what a goal saving tackle)
VvD : 7.5
Lovren : 8 (what a goal saving tackle)
TAA : 7
Hendo : 6
Gini : 6
Milner : 6
Lallana : 4
Salah : 7
Mane : 8.5 (superb all match, clear MoM)
Firmino : 6

Did Lallana actually touch the ball whilst he was out there?

I'm sure he must have done something but for the life of me I can't remember if he did.

Poor Klopp was always onto a loser if someone got injured but was surprised he didn't give Solanke a go. I know he's not given us much to go on this season but after a point we didn't really have much to lose. What was Can going to do?

Personally I agreed with Klopp. We were losing it in midfield so bringing on 10 strikers wouldn't have helped. Can often picks the ball up and drives forward and has scored 2-3 in the season's CL from exactly those drives.

RE Lallana,

Didn't do his signature turn all game. Looks kinda weak and slow, i think nobody passed to him or he just didn't make himself available enough. He did a full blooded sliding tackle down our left that resulted in a throw to them.

Oh and he showed his torso to the world when he tore of his training top.

That's about it.
