Quite possibly a future captain there.

Its actually a shock when he gives the ball away, he gave it away cheaply once yesterday and you sort of do a double take, just don't expect it with him.

Post-match thoughts?

My first trip to Anfield, and we're top of the fucking league! SCM to sponsor trips to Anfield for me everytime, please?

Seriously though, an unforgettable experience. The first half was magical, 3 goals at the Anfield Road end, right in front of where I was sitting. 2 for Suarez right after his shiny new contract. Goosebumps from singing YNWA. Completely sore fucking throat, and still convalescing from the amount of alcohol I had yesterday. AND Top of the league. What more could I ask for?.

Big cheers to @ILD, who got me the tickets. You're a legend mate. I had a great time, and so did my mate. He's going to get that pizza plate framed!

Cheers to all those I met at drinkies as well!

Some first trip to Anfield that fella.

Garth Crooks, admittedly not a football messiah, has Johnson in his team of the week. I did not see the match but most on here have him playing not that well. Views? Are we missing something that Johnson brings to the Brendan school of football?

Johnson was easily our worst player.

He was fucking dreadful.

I normally back him to the hilt but for practically all this season he's been well shit, & seeing the match at Anfield just made me realise how shit he was in every regard.

That first half Sterling bailed him out by getting back & covering for him repeatedly.

I think it is with very good reason that we seem to be targeting a right back in the January window a la Montoya.
and it isn't because Johnson has only eighteen months left on his contract.

Yep, sadly I think he is on the wane.

On the wane would suggest that he's no longer able to do what he used to be able to (see: Gerrard). I don't think it's the case with Johnson. Even in recent games when he's been shit, he's demonstrated in bits here and there that he's still got it in him, if he just wanted to apply himself more. Put Suarez's or Henderson's competitive spirit in him, for example, and you'll see him move up the MOTM charts pretty soon.

I said earlier on that he's going back to the Hodgson era performances. When Kenny took over as caretaker manager, Johnson quickly upped his performance. I think it's all in his attitude. Physically and technically, he's still got it, even after his recent injuries.

That's what I've been saying a while back. Johnson is a good player in every respect, other than being a winner. He is used to playing for bad teams with no expectations and responsibility; that's been his comfort zone. Now that our team is acquiring a winning mentality step by step, Johnson starts to stand out in a negative way more and more – not because he can't play, but because he just doesn't quite fit into the character of this team any more.

Wouldn't say he had the greatest impact in their titles

I just think he's missing Gerrard these last few weeks

It's that captains wiggle in midfield

He seems to play better at left back than right, maybe it sharpens his focus up a bit more when he plays there? not sure but he looks half asleep atm playing right back, we won't keep on getting away with his lax play, he needs to wake up soon, maybe moving him to the left would do that?

He's not a bad player, he's a very good player, I've just never, ever believed him to be a great defender, but he gives us balance we sorely lack when he is missing. I just don't think he's progressed to that next level he should have reached at his age and with his experience.

He only has 1 PL winner's medal, because in 2005-2006 he didn't make enough appearances to be eligible for a medal. Next season he was loaned out and eventually sold to Portsmouth. Basically he was kicked out of the only winning team he's been a part of.

Drink some water, mate, that cough is not good for your throat.

Hehe....

The point I was trying to illustrate was that Johnson has experience. He's been there at the top and failed. He then learned from it, just like Flanno is doing, worked his socks off and became an England fullback. Also won the FA cup with Portsmouth.

I remember thinking how useless Johnson was at Chelsea and I don't think I was alone, he surprised a lot of people after he left.
