Post Match Thoughts: Swansea - Liverpool

Surely it's a job that practically any fit sportsperson could do.
Henderson was basically sucked into midfield to help out leaving Wisdom isolated and stranded at times.
400 games as captain is a great achievement and all but that was up there with one of his worst performances.

Exactly. It was sad to mark that milestone by basically absenting himself from being captain.

Oh, and another little thing, Mignolet's distribution continues to be atrocious, and when you were blessed with Reina who is one of the best, and at times the best in the world at it, it just seems brutally poor.

Dont agree but he needs to kick it long at times where he tries to find the full back.
He's excellent at saving shots which Reina stopped doing so that more than enough makes up for it 😉

He needs to work on throwing it better. Reina started so many attacks that way. I can't think of any keeper who kicks it out so accurately it's a good tactic, it's usually throwing away possession, and I thought Rodgers wanted to overcome that. We've stopped some of the faffing about at the back but we still seem to end up far too often hoping that a team with few decent headers of the ball will head a long kick on to Sturridge.

He is starting to dominate the penalty area and he's a terrific shot stopper. His distribution compares badly with Reina, but that would be true of almost any keeper in the world against him. Hopefully he can develop that side of his game. Otherwise, it would be hard to fault the start he's made.

Hasnt been good enough at all but writing him off is ridiculous. Lets give him some time to adapt eh?
He's struggeling with the pace of the league, but he was very good in La Liga so there is every chance he'll come good.

He's 26 and only ever played one season in the top Spanish division, which was last season. The rest of his career has been in the Spanish second division. He's 5ft 9, 10.5 stone and scared to even bump into someone, let alone tackle. I don't know what people are expecting from him in the toughest physical league in Europe, but him being anything other than absolutely shite will be a miracle.

One of the reasons why I left him out of my motm top 3. As good as some of his stops were, his distribution and losing the ball was responsible for him having to make them. He's like a magician. Pulling off the magic with one hand while fucking you in the ass with the other.

aspas is the new borini.

He was decent in his first game, I thought. Tonight he was like the new Voronin. A bit terrifying. I cling to the hope he'll calm down and pick up the pace and his new role - because it is a new role - but christ he needs to pull his finger out!

Yes.
He was excellent but he's 32 and if you think he's going to be first name on the team sheet every week you'll get a shock.

Toure has a quality that skrtel and agger lacked last season that ended up with Carra being recalled. It seems our strongest pairing on paper but neither of them are born leaders. Also if wisdom continues to play right back he'll need someone beside him shouting at him and Skrtel or Agger won't do that. I think after tonight Toure and one other should be in the center against Southampton.

Wisdom won't start at right back for a while I reckon.
Think Toure or Henderson are going to have to do a job there.

Great interview by Sturridge afterwards. The interviewer was trying to make him sound like someone with a small club mentality and he wasn't having it, insisting that Ronaldo and Messi wouldn't be content with scoring for a few games and stressed how he was determined to keep pushing on. Quite Carra-like in his refusal to let the interviewer do the snide questions and get away with it.

the quality on the bench to improve the midfield was also worrying. who could we bring on? Rogers doesn't yet seem to have full confidence in Alberto.

Was it Geoff Shreeves? Because he would ask those same questions to Messi and Ronaldo. He an absolute fuckwit!!

It wasn't, actually, but it did remind me of that time when Shreeves talked about 'bigger clubs' and Carra looked at him like he was mad and said 'Who's bigger???'

Mignolet was excellent again. Never at fault for either goal, and he saved our arses on plenty of occasions. He earned us that point as much as Sturridge and Coutinho did.

Wisdom isn't good enough. Ok, he's still young, but he has quite a bit of first team experience now and he really needs to be stepping up a gear.

Sakho had some howlers for sure, but I'm sure he was nervous. To be fair to him, he showed some moments of class as well. He looks really confident on the ball too. I think he'll settle in nicely.

Skrtel was my man of the match. Make some great tackles. One them just before Shelvey's goal. It was only down to pure luck that it fell right for Shelvey. Also won some very important headers. Maybe the long break was the best thing that could've happened to him. He really looked like the old Skrtel tonight.

Enrique, I'm usually very critical of, but he was excellent tonight. His passing was much better and his defending was pretty good too.

Lucas was solid. Thought he was unlucky to get that yellow card. I don't think he made any of his usual stupid clumsy challenges.

Gerrard did well for the most part. But he looked fucked at times. He was slow to track back at times, and his corners are still fucking horrendous.

Coutinho, wasn't at his best, but he still played really well. You'll get that with Coutinho. His "cleverness" isn't always going to pay off. It was really noticeable when he went off.

Henderson worked hard for the most part, but he was sloppy a lot of the time. I've seen him play much better.

Moses was fucking boss. Incredible debut, and a beautifully taken goal as well. If he plays every game like that, along with Suarez and Coutinho, we'll be fucking amazing.

Sturridge had a decent game. But he needs service. And lots of it.

Subs:

Aspas was fucking shite. He offered nothing when he came on. He's spineless on 50-50 situations. I'd hope that this is his last appearance in a red shirt for some time.

Sterling never really threatened. I'm really starting to doubt his ability. Of course he has youth on his side, but after the impact he made after his debut, he set the bar a bit too high for himself, and people have come to expect more him. He's still a good option to have on the bench.

Toure didn't really get much of a chance to make an impact, but anything he did, he did properly.

Sterling's a strange one. He's got pace when he's on the shoulder of defenders and running into the area but if he gets the ball deeper with a defender ahead of him I never expect him to try to accelerate past them, let alone succeed in that. I don't know if it's a lack of strength or confidence or both, but he seems pointless if we're not feeding him the ball deep in the opposition's half. Ibe, on the other hand, could have taken the ball in his own half and actually bombed on, or held it up. He's looking a much more well-rounded and positive player at this stage.

Its a shame that every player in the World doesnt adapt in the same way. It would have made signing players much more easy..

He needs to step up for sure - but lets not be so dramatic about it.

We've played five games this season. I'm not ready to call anyone shit, yet.
But our squad is very thin in the creativity department.

Southampton at home next.

1 game left...
