Post Match Thoughts: Swansea - Liverpool

We were chasing shadows for most of the second half and as far I can see it's a job Gerrard refuses to do.
Henderson and Lucas chased everything all night without fuss and showed Stevie how an away day midfield should work.

Everyone who has criticised Aspas has been far too lenient in their comments. He's a pathetic lightweight who's obviously scared of this league. I watched him closely and he jogs about a lot, making sure he looks busy by appearing to close down people with the ball but he then just hangs about near the player, never closer than 2 yards, and lets that player do whatever he wants with the ball in all the time he needs, not once making any attempt whatsoever to interfere with that player's progress. We'd have been better off without him on the pitch because our players wouldn't have been fooled into thinking we had a man (Aspas) trying to block an advancing player. At least we only wasted £7.7m on him which, by recent standards, is one of our better absolutely-utter-fucking-shite signings.

Mingolet - his distribution is poor (i hope this can improve), but it's nice to have a keeper who i feel will need to be beaten by excellent strikes and not crap. Great great shot stopper.

Sakho - you can see what he's about, and what barely playing the last 12 months can do to match fitness, sharpess etc. However, he oozes class on the ball, and seems unbeatable in the air.

Enrique - seems like he's having a 'meh' stretch. Misses Suarez?

Lucas - For Mamma - one bad free kick given up. Can't remember anything negative, and he played solid passes all night long. I wonder what set him off though - it's so rare to see that.

Gerrard - we need more please captain.

Henderson - can't see Joe Allen replacing him

Moses - great debut, should have been goal and assist. Needs match fitness like Sakho.

Coutinho - let's hope injury isn't serious.

Sturridge - 4 in 4 ... He's really playing well and I'm just impressed with how composed he is on the pitch.

Three of ther players need mentioning -

Shelvey - he could have broken down after those miserable passes, but he was excellent in the 2nd half. That pass to michu was class. Props to him.

Ashley Williams - a horrible cunt. I hoep Suarez bites his ear off.

Michu - was all that gloating really necessary after his goal? Twat.

10 points after 4 games? I'm happy. We will hopefully soon start playing better footy and we'll be happy that these 4 'average games' yielded so many points. 1-4 is up for grabs this year - let's fucking make it count.

Yes, Hendo was another plus, thank god he was flying around, but he and Lucas desperately needed someone who would hold the ball for a bit and let a bit of steam out of Swansea. When there's that degree of panic and confusion going on the quick passing doesn't help, because they weren't thinking when they were doing it.

How anyone would want to drop Skrtel after the last 2 games is beyond me. MOM in both, he's the first centre half on the team sheet.
If you mean my team, I was really just putting any old fucker in at the back. Look at the front 4!!!!!!11111

Like bollocks it is. Johnson is easily one of the best right backs in the league however it seems some people have it in for him. Kicked your cat ? Fucked your wife ?

Errrr....he's out injured for ages. I was talking about the options we have without him. So wind your fucking neck in.

Hasnt been good enough at all but writing him off is ridiculous. Lets give him some time to adapt eh?
He's struggeling with the pace of the league, but he was very good in La Liga so there is every chance he'll come good.

Cheers Macca.

What's the rough period out for a dislocated shoulder? 3/4 weeks? Less, more?

A bit more, I think. But I must stress that was just my impression, the doc didn't seem to pop anything back in so hopefully it was something much less painful.

He has a slight pain according to what I've read so far. Dont think it was dislocated. At least I hope not...

I'd start Luis Alberto against Southampton if Coutinho's out.
He might at least be on the same page as Sturridge as Aspas looks lost.

Had to depart at HT, and I was surprised by the draw. It's Swansea, not AC Milan. That said, they will always play that bit better against Rodgers. That's always a factor.

My thoughts are that this performance, and the losses that will come will give everyone a more sobering view of where we are at as a team and what we have to do.

1) Swansea found space down our left flank, because Henderson, as industrious as he is, will often stray central, and without proper natural cover at right back, we got caught out of position repeatedly. Our midfield doesn't have balance, and we can't consistently gain the attacking third through possession football.
2) Sakho had a great first game, and is a defender that can defend. He dawdles a bit on the ball, but has confidence which is good. He's not yet match fit, which brings me to
3) None of our players seem to be able to put 90 mins in. Some of this seems to have to do with fitness, which is unacceptable.
4) I thought we were a pass and move team, but we seem to only be able to do that for 30 minutes. Gerrard does nothing to assist with this.
5) Moses was encouraging, and his goal was important, but he looked really out of shape, and I thought he should have been substituted quite a bit earlier. I don't think fullbacks, on either side are good enough to do the attacking work that would really help our side.
6) It is incredibly worrying how irrelevant Aspas is to our play. I can't see him getting a game once Suarez is back based on what we've seen so far. If we had put another midfielder on it would have been far more impactful.

Yet Sakho failed to defend on both their goals.

Gerrard doesn't refuse to do it, he can't do it, he rations his effort because he has to.

I agree. He should be playing about 70 minutes max, and then he might be able to be less economical. We need to have players we can trust to take his place.

Oh, and another little thing, Mignolet's distribution continues to be atrocious, and when you were blessed with Reina who is one of the best, and at times the best in the world at it, it just seems brutally poor.

Surely it's a job that practically any fit sportsperson could do.
Henderson was basically sucked into midfield to help out leaving Wisdom isolated and stranded at times.
400 games as captain is a great achievement and all but that was up there with one of his worst performances.

Yea, he was thrown into a game that ended up being quite intense, and I thought that the good things he showed in a completely new league in a new team in a bit of a cobbled together defense outnumbered the bad by some distance. We've struggled against some teams that have a pretty clumsy aerial attack, and I don't think he will.

Its also easy to forget that it took us 9 games last season to get 10 points.
We're progressing and slowly turning into a team that is hard to beat. Thats a big contrast to the team that got beat easily over the last couple of years and didnt look to bothered about it either.

The fitness and attacking play will come. Room for improvement but top of the league. Love it!

Gerrard was needed in the centre, slowing the match down for a bit, adding composure and direction. His energy or lack of it had little to do with his failure to do this. Hamman or Molby or Whelan had the nous to do that job without breaking sweat. Gerrard actually looked like he was hiding at times, it was woeful. He was standing on the right wing, loitering ahead of the midfield, wandering across to the left, when he should have been in the middle, getting and giving, pulling the strings like the great player he is. Maybe he's carried teams so often he just can't face it these days, but he did NO job out there tonight, he was aimless.

Inviting pressure wil inevitably lead to goals, we saw it against County of all sides. Sakho's rustiness didn't help but inviting pressure and a poor midfield will cost us with or without Agger or whoever. The midfield and right back positions need a re-jig, Gerrard needs to pull his finger out if we're to persevere with Coutinho in ahead of the central two.

Gerrard's really struggling in the last 20-25 mins of games. With his role being further back...it's leaving our defence really exposed when he's dead in his feetm

He just needs to mainly play it short, it seems that if he doesn't really like his options he hoofs it long and we lose possession. He needs more short passes and more throws.
