When Lucas fell over going forward and creating a chance for them rather than us, it just highlighted his contribution to our team.

Rafa needs to buy players with pace. Stop with the good professional and mentality crap. Pace, trickery, skill. I dont care if there mental.
Without Torres we're the slowest team in the league. Counter attacks? No thanks, we cant outrun a single defence.

[/quote]

I've been crowing about this FOREVER. In today's modern game you NEED pace. I don't know one top team which wins consistently without having athleticism to back up their quality.

What's worse is our slow players are weak and not actually technically gifted; it's not like we have a Riquelme in the ranks. Our slow players simply don't have any redeeming qualities save workrate.

Hence we find it difficult to outrun teams or counterattack them (due to a lack of pace) and difficult to break down packed defenses who sit deep (due to a lack of technical skill and creativity). Without Torres and/or Gerrard (and now without Alonso) we are simply sh*te going forwards. It's disappointing when you see United, Arsenal and Chelsea without all their top players still beat the bottom teams quite handily. Whilst we seem to just make excuses.

If we went all out attack, and fucking went for it, we'd still fucking struggle.

Attacking in numbers isn't our forté.

What's more annoying is that I went to the MU game yesterday. On the radio on the way there, we learned that Vidic, Ferdinand, O'Shea and Evans would all be injured. So they started with Neville and Brown at CB and their 3rd choice keeper. Couple with Gibson in midfield and Fletcher.

Neither team was that good and after 20 mins, Ferguson actually took Neville off (I don't think it was an injury) and replaced him with Carrick.

Then for the next 70 mins, they toyed with West Ham without getting out of 2nd gear.

Both sides were poor but Man U got the goal, relaxed, pushed the ball around and took their chances. Without the majority of the first team defence! They just didn't let West Ham get at their defence.

If that had been us, we'd have scrapped a draw or let West Ham take the initiative and allow them to boss us around. Very frustrating.

Losing Alonso was key IMO. Last season when we thrashed Real at home we just sent wave after wave of attacks at them until they caved in, then we did the same to other teams for the rest of the season, just like in the glory days. If we'd been able to keep that going at the start of this season, many of our players would have performed far better than they have as the season's gone on. Success breeds success.

He has well and truly lost it now, this media perception that the liverpool fans still believe in the cult of Benitez and refuse to question him is nonsense. Most Liverpool fans I speak to no longer think hes capable of ever winning the league, the vast majority would replace him if there was a viable alternative.

Whats worse the players no longer seem to believe in him, Gerrard has started to look like a man who has resigned himself to never winning the league, he just doesnt look like he cares anymore. And its hard to blame him, 5 and half years in and the same problems are still waiting to be addressed, no pace, no width, no plan B, over dependent on handful of players.

I thought Rafas intransigence had reached its peak with the Keane debacle last year but sadly he seems destined to repeat the whole sorry farce with Aqualani. All managers can be stubborn, in some cases it can be an advantage to be so single minded but with Rafa its become a liability, his persistance with Lucas and to a lesser extent Kuyt is damaging the team, week by week its getting worse. The hypocricy of a manager who constantly hides behind a lack of transfer funds then refuses to play his most expensive summer signing just to prove a point is infuriating.

Be a man Rafa own up to your mistakes, the fans and I dare say the players would respect you more for it, if this continues much longer he will have to be removed for the good of the club, its no use saying "it would cost £12m to get rid and we can afford that" can we afford to finish 6th because thats what will happen if this doesnt turn around very quickly.

He should have a full squad fit for the Arsenal game, there are no excuses left. If we havent improved by january the axe must fall, and Im not so sure that rafa doesnt want that to happen. He knows he wont be short of offers back in Spain, possibly the Madrid or national team job will be up in the summer. He will gets a huge pay off and have his army of excusers defend his position for posterity. I hope it doesnt come to that, but Rafa can not come before the club. Nobody can.

He's crackers that Benitez isn't he. I don't mind that and quite like managers who stick to their principles, even in the face of common sense, but we're never going to consistently challenge for the league with him are we. His philosophy is all wrong for our culture.

There's been some bad results this season, but yesterday was as low as I've felt under the current regime, and we didn't even get beat. After 5 seasons we look as disjointed and clueless as when he first took over.

Very sad. Very true. For me this is the most depressing part.

When Vlad, Sheik, LTW talk about what I've been saying for 2 years, they're not in an alternative universe or have a penchant for vendettas ...

Thats Rafa's last season.

You are a lucky lad Chac, having it both ways.
Rejoicing as a liverpool fan when we do well but having the bonus of when we fail, of telling us all how you were the first to have found Rafa out.

In fact I seem to recall that you said something similar about being the first to have turned against Houllier and no doubt you will be first to find fault with our new manager, if and when we get one.

I suppose to be fair, coming from a country whose greatest contribution to humankind is the cuckoo clock and the yodel it is to be expected that you would always anticipate dissapointment.

Maybe sometimes Im not expressing myself really well, mainly because english not being my first language.
I was happy when we hired Rafa, I just want success for my club but I quickly saw he wasnt suited and wouldnt bring the title.
Im getting older and at the end of the day its just football, its not ruining my weekends anymore.
Rafa sounds like a nice man but he's not a great manager.
I have no agenda or penchant for vendettas against anyone.

Capello or Mourinho should be our next manager

Jimmy, don't let his weasel words fool you, he knows perfectly well what this was about - he just doesn't want to admit it.

"Alternative universe" refers to the ignorant garbage he's come out with on here about Riera being a greater goal threat than Kuyt, or in the General Forum about his own country's legal system. "Penchant for vendettas" refers to the campaigns he's waged on here for years against Rafa and more recently against Kuyt, Rafa4PM and ctlovesred. Little digs like the one above are his trademark, and you'll find he often uses them to try and divert attention from an argument he's losing. Don't swallow it.

I said I didnt rate Kuyt so what?
WTF are you on?

The same as the others in this thread, and so many others, who have objected to your various monomanias. For further details just ask the guy you see in the mirror, the one who says the same things over and over and over again about people he dislikes or "doesn't rate" - not just for football reasons - even when others have demolished his argument for him.

Oh really? Like when you were personally insulting ctlovesred? When I picked you up on that by saying you knew nothing about the guy, your (breathtaking) response was "I don't want to know about him". That's your whole problem - you're so secure inside those neat little prejudices of yours that you don't want anything to disturb them. That carries straight over into your "contributions" to football discussions, and plenty of others on here besides me are sick of it, however much you try and ignore that fact.

Its the football forum. I talk about football.
I had arguments with CTlovesred on the GC forum. Thats different.

You are personnally attacking me for strange reasons that I dont know.
Really, give me a break please. Put me on ignore.

Stop ruining football threads.

"Different" my @rse. It's all the same site. There's no "difference" - or shouldn't be - in the way we treat each other across the forums.

You can keep trying to make out I'm the only one on your case all you want. A glance at this thread and others, like the "Why oh f*cking why" one, will soon give the lie to that and show who most on here think really is "ruining football threads". And if you don't want me to intervene, you'd better steer clear of remarks like those you made to jimmy at the top of this page, because it'll be a cold day in Hell before I put you on "ignore".

Good post Redstar... and the bit below really stuck out. How have we found ourselves in this position? It's mad. Gerrard in particular looks like he's hurting.
