Although the theory is sound: buy lots of good, first-team ready players to develop a new spine, and spend £100m.
He was certainly fortunate that the spending spree had already started under Ranieri, and that quality players like Duff, Lampard, Makelele and Terry were already there. But certainly having a top quality keeper in Cech and striker in Drogba were very important too. The spine was so good.

I don't care who we sell or sign as long as Klopp have the last word. He will build a top class squad if he is allowed to do it and get money to do it. I don't even care if Lucas is sold. Klopp won't sign a lot of big egos. He will sign team players. That is what he did at Dortmund.
You can spend a fortune on new players but if you sign a lot of big egos then it won't work. Leicester, Tottenham and Arsenal play as a team. That is the top three in the league. Manchester C have a fantastic captain in Kompany but when he is out injured they stop playing as a team. One player could make all the difference in some cases. Chelsea stopped playing as a team because they wanted to get rid of Mourinho but now when he is gone they are one of the best clubs in the league again.

I think we need four top quality players, a spine can often be the difference with the rest of your players. See how Henderson and Coutinho are performing now, as opposed to two seasons ago.

Agreed. We definitely need a better player in each of those positions so just concentrate on that for now. Any more and funds will be too diluted
According to Joyce, Ancelotti pointed out that very issue when approached about the job. That the team needed a new spine.
I'm guessing Klopp has the same idea and is working towards that this summer.

He's going to get a lot of money and he will spend. I think the owners know they've got a manager who deserves - and also requires - big investment this summer. Remains to be seen how successful the signings will be, but I expect quite a few, and I think at least a couple of them will be 20-30m fees.
Thinking about it, once Klopp fucks up, its an Italian coach surely? We've done the rest.
