I think a huge aspect of Kuyt's contribution is his ability to step up in big games - Everton, Mancs, Chelsea, European knock off competition - you could count on Kuyt to step up. The bigger the battle, Kuyt would be at the heart of it. That cannot be measured in statistics.

Firmino is 1 in 3 for goals and 1 in 4 for assists. Kuyt was 1 in 4 for goals and 1 in 8 for assists. So you're wrong. Again.

As you know, Firmino isn't a striker, he plays up front as part of a fluid three, so droning on about it only makes you seem like some demented clockwork wankbat.
Haha!

I'm so looking forward to this years match threads being filled with Modo telling us Henderson's shit and Brendan telling us Firmino's shit.

So boringly predictable.

Although the introduction of "wankbat" is deliciously novel.

I think any mention of Henderson or Firmino from Modo & Brendan should hereafter be called "wankbatting".

Hopefully it'll encourage them both to shut the fuck upon those particular topics.

That Captain sideways is not a DM.

I agree but I think he does a decent job being the furthest back even though it's not his natural game. It's a bit of a waste of his energy but he's there because he's the only one we have with the legs to get back and the discipline.

So I reeaaaaally want us to sign Keita. Or fucking play Can there.

That's a relief, because we don't play with a DM. We play with 3 midfielders who all contribute to the attack and defence. Hence our relentless pursuit of keita, as that's the type of player he is
Well he's not a furthest back midfielder either.

As opposed to @Barba Roja talking about "wank batting" when England lose the ashes later this year...
Whoa! Where the fuck did that come from you cheeky cunt muffin? England will serve you up with a nice slice of fuck sticks with a side of herpes on toast!

I love you really @StevieM - Just experimenting in colourful metaphors 😉

P.S - Saw Dunkirk today. It's fucking boss. Go see X

I agree that Henderson - in an ideal world - would not play as the deepest lying midfielder. He can do a job, much in the way Milner can at LB, but yeah, it's not ideal.

I don't agree really get the way in which the point is being made though and am slightly baffled by the whole Captain Sideways thing - what's with that anyways? Henderson is one of the few players in the squad that actually does demonstrate a decent range of passing and vision from midfield.

Haha!

Stay tuned, DB.
I like Firmino and he has been superb in some games but he's not potent enough to be playing every game up top and he looks very poor when played out wide in a front 3.

He really only looks on when Coutinho is in behind him so if we lose him I think Firmino will have a rapid decline

Oh and comparing Firminos goal return who plays mainly central against Kuyt who basically was a defensive winger is stupid.

As a no9 Firmino should be getting more goals and nobody can argue against that

I will do when it opens over here.

Si it is not only the first team that do a few friendlies for preparing themselves for the new season.... The forum is also preparing themselves for the matchthreads. And same as the team has not improved a lot defensively we clearly see that parts of the forum that needed some upgrade remain predictable shite.

We need to work harder lads. It is not good enough to continue with the exact the same drivel as last season. Other forums strengthen and reshape. Wr can't get stuck another season in the Firmino doesn't score enough misery. It will take us nowhere. I expect people to use this week working on the obvious stuff and come back with totally different approach for the Berlin matchthread. We have huge ambitions here!!!

"he plays up front as part of a fluid three"? Wow.

But no. He plays as our main, central striker. A number 9.

And he's not very good at it, because he isn't a a very good finisher and he's slow.

As for the Kuyt comparisons, unsurprisingly you're wrong again, but even if one were to examine Kuyt's usual output - often delivering 14-15 goals a season (more than Firmino has ever managed for Liverpool) plus Kuyt often delivered that impressive goal tally from a position playing on the right wing.

Firmino scored 10 league goals in his first season and 11 in his last. That last season saw him outscored by 17 other players in the Premier league, including Benteke, Olivier Giroud, Josh King and Son Heung-min.

And before you start quacking on about his fucking assists, it's GOALS that count for a striker, but even so, players like Delle Ali, Sanchez, Cost and Kane all managed to score twice as many goals and deliver the same - or more - number of assists.

Because Firmino isn't very good.

Yeah Brendan, you seem to go to a lot of effort to deride one of our players.
I think we'd all like a new prolific #9. I don't think it's coming though. It'll be Frimino / Sturridge as our first choice central striker this season.

I really like Frimino though so I can make peace with it. Especially if Mane and Salah are devastating either side of him.

Dirk Kuyt never scored 14 premier league goals in a season. Ever. He did score 2 in 34 and 3 in 32 sometimes though. For fuck's sake. It's like you revel in being wrong.

A cursory look at a heat map of movement between a traditional (and obviously very good) number nine and Firmino demonstrates he is clearly is tasked to do a very different job, to come much deeper and knit attacks from much further from the opposition penalty area. It isn't THAT difficult to understand.

Amazing how your opinion (often spectacularly wrong) is spouted as fact. Kudos for your blind belief in your own agenda though.
