I'm sorry, Neil...but how is that bit in bold a plea to go to Barcelona?
it's not, I'm messing.

Soz,Neil.

Reina hasnt exactly covered himself in glory; but I'm more concerned with what he does rather than what he says.

He can gaze longingly at the Scum all he likes, but as long as he signs the contract and oes his best for us thats all that matters.

hopefully if he sees enough ambition from us he will commit long term. as arsenal have found to their cost, good keepers are ridiculously hard to find.

That's the problem, they haven't found to their cost, as they wont spend big money on one.

Wenger doesn't buy good players he buys young ones and hopes for the best. See mannone and szeczeczny

Reina looking ahead to next season

By ESPN staff

Pepe Reina already appears to be planning to spend next season at Liverpool, warning his team-mates that it is essential that they avoid another horror start to the campaign.

Pepe Reina
PA PhotosPepe Reina's future has been the subject of speculation throughout the season

Reina has been widely linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with Arsenal a known suitor following a rejected bid for the goalkeeper last summer. Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in a player who has, at times, seemed disillusioned this season.

Following the sale of Fernando Torres to Chelsea, Reina has been vocal about Liverpool's need to display ambition in the transfer market, insisting they have to be challenging for honours in order to retain his services.

The chance to win trophies evaporated rapidly under former boss Roy Hodgson, who led Liverpool to an early Carling Cup exit and had them hovering near the relegation zone following one victory in his opening eight league games.

However, the arrival of Kenny Dalglish has signalled a turnaround in fortunes, sparked by victories over Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, and Reina now wants to see that form taken into next season.

"We didn't start this season, or last, the best - and next time we need to make sure that doesn't happen," he told LFC Weekly. "We need to be consistent with the aggression, commitment - everything. And if we get the balance right, we'll be a lot closer to where we want to be."

Reina has also compared Dalglish to his opposite number at Barcelona, Pep Guardiola.

"Guardiola is a bit younger than him, of course," he said. "But they have very similar backgrounds - icons as players and great managers as well. It is important that Kenny knows the club.

"He's a legend in Liverpool - and I mean a legend because sometimes that word is used too much for other people. Kenny knows exactly what the people here think and what the supporters want to see.

"Because he was a great player himself, he understands the point of view of a player and that means he knows how to set standards. He makes everything much easier for us. We have improved since Kenny became manager. We have beaten the big teams. But it is important as players to repeat that in every game."

You been told something Sunny?
He's said it twice in this thread. That's good enough for me. Good man Pepe, never doubted you for a moment.

Thanks Pepe, it's nice to have your loyalty once all your options have dried up.

Makes you feel all warm inside.

Alternatively he may have been given indications by the club hierarchy as to what will happen this summer. I suspect he believes in this regime far more than he did the last one.

What we're his options and which one's suddenly dried up?

Unted are linked to De Gae but haven't signed him yet. Arsenal still didn't address their keeper issue.

Why do we hate Pepe? Because he didn't point blank refuse a move to united? That was his 'never say never in football' speech. Didn't that interview come out around the time Torres betrayed us? Maybe Pepe was being a bit too honest in his never say never interview but I don't think he would have gone to United anyway. He also signed a contract during the H&G era to tie himself down.

I haven't turned on him yet although the united comments did piss me off at the time.

Nail on the head Dave. Pepe will be here next year I'm sure. In fact, now Torres has gone & we have some stability, I suspect the only players to go will be the ones we want to go, rather than those seeking a big move elsewhere.

It's nailed onto happen by all accounts, and Wenger has a lot of faith in their number 1 at the moment - I very much doubt he'll look to bring in a keeper now. I'm sure Pepe knows more than we do.

Maybe he has just changed his mind, but I'm very cynical at the moment.

I think it was in the summer, then the promoted the guy they've got now in to the first season and he's had a decent season.

It would be highly surprising for Wenger to go out and invest heavily in a GK now.

things may have changed now that arsenal have a new owner. he may insist whinger spend some money and if that is indeed the case then all bets are off.

Arsenal Bid for Liverpool Keeper Reina Confirmed
Posted on 25 March 2011

Former Arsenal goalkeeping coach Bob Wilson has confirmed that Arsene Wenger did make an offer for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina during the January transfer window, hinting that the “big bid†exceeded £20 million.

The Gunners legend continued by insisting Reina will once again be on Wenger’s wish-list when the transfer window re-opens in the summer, but the French tactician is certain to face competition for the in-demand Spaniard.

“Arsene tried like mad to buy not only a goalkeeper, but what he considered to be the most consistent in the country,†Wilson insisted. “So he made a big bid for Pepe Reina.â€

“'That didn't come out because that's not Arsene Wenger's way of doing it and it's not Arsenal's way of doing it, but he did attempt it.

He said it during an interview on Talkshite with Keys/Gray. Sounded straight up at the time.

Bob Wilson has repeated it about 6/7 times on TalkSport, a not so subtle way of tapping up a player without tapping him up, esp when he kept saying Arsenal were still after a keeper as number one priority then mentioning their 'number one target' last summer was Reina.

He's going nowhere though.
