Bob Wilson has repeated it about 6/7 times on TalkSport, a not so subtle way of tapping up a player without tapping him up, esp when he kept saying Arsenal were still after a keeper as number one priority then mentioning their 'number one target' last summer was Reina.

He's going nowhere though.
[/quote]

That's as maybe.
Doesn't mean he was lying about the bid.

Hes gone this summer.

I won't change my opinion on this until Reina comes out and says otherwise, either.

After Torres, I'll always assume the worst.

I honestly don't care. These fucking superstars. No sense of the basics of life, like loyalty. He stays, he goes, I couldn't care less. We'll bring in another strong option if he does. No-one is indispensable. Everyone is replaceable, when we have financial backing.

I agree with all of this, however I would prefer if he stayed, rather than a replacement, no matter how good he is, needing time to bed in.

Yes, agreed. Torres has opened all our eyes to how flakey these players can be. No-one should have a team built around them

He'll stay.

I've actually stoped caring why players stay.

I don't care if it's because they kiss the badge, or if it's because they can't find anything better.

All I careabout is that we keep our best players.

So if Reina stays and performs to his best, that's all that matters.

We can't expect loyalty anymore from our players anymore when we only demand it of our better players; whenever our crap players talk about fighting for their place we roll our eyes and just wish they'd leave.

I think we should be actively looking to replace him. None of this crap anymore thank you. I'd love it if he was told to fight for his place or fuck off to those bottlers.

I think that would fall under the heading of "cutting off your nose to spite your face", gene. Gulacsi looks a decent keeper in the making but I wouldn't want to fetch him into the team ahead of Reina yet awhile.

I'm not talking about Gulacsi, I'm saying if we can get a keeper as good or better than Reina than we should buy him. This is something we should actively try to do when one of our players makes public statements about Man Utd or Arsenal needing a new keeper this summer 'so you never know'.

People are basing this idea of Pepe going on a shite interview in Spanish and a lot of red-top fucking tittle tattle and mischief making.
I would call it mass-hysteria, but as far as I can see there is only about six people involved, so that might be over egging things.
Stop lambasting the guy, as far as I can see he is still one of our most committed players. When, and only when, the thing becomes factual you can legitimately have a go at him, until then treat him with the respect he deserves.

It's based on more than one interview, Vlad, and it's fair to question his loyalty based on some silly comments which have yet to be denied some time later.

But, in fairness, Pepe, is really getting a lot of Torres related sentiment. Also, people have started to follow Kenny's lead and say, no-one is bigger than the club. We don't tolerate these super star statements anymore. Don't wanna stay? Asking for us to please you? Looking for assurances? Nope! Move on then. NEXT!

To add something:, it would make sense from a business perspective to cash in the guy now. Get 25 Mill from Arsenal or elsewhere - easier if we had a Joe Hart type, young protege lined up! But seriously, sell the guy now, fuck 'em/ get a good price and move on

It's a shame that he has made these few (perhaps, perhaps not out-of-context) comments because for me he was the one player in the squad, bar Carra or Stevie, whose loyalty I had believed in completely (Dirk also, perhaps). While I never assumed he would spend the remainder of his career with us if we continued to struggle for years, I certainly never thought he'd be quick to jump ship. I'm hoping that everything is indeed out of context because he is both a fantastic player and, I believe, a good person and character in the locker room.

i think some of the fans need to pull their heads in..

his positive comments are ignored and he has consistantly been one of the most proffesional players in the squad. I dont blame him for considering his future with bullshit that has been going on over the last few years.

The Torres situation was fucked... but why treat Reina with the same distain.... completely different person who has put 100% AT ALL FUCKING TIMES into the club.

Which is why it was disappointing. The comments came as things were turning around and improving, not while we were in the crap. So it was too much. He blabs off at all the wrong times. Enough already. Sign on the dotted line or thanks for the loyalty and service and memories. I think he will likely stay for another year myself, but I personally have no time for the antics.

Yup, good man Vladders.Sometimes the press rehash old quotes just to make headlines.

Exactly. I think some people just prefer to ignore inconvenient truths. Let's hope we get off to a flyer next year or he'll be in the Spanish press again. Then when he asks for a move to 'a bigger club' we can all act surprised like we did with Masher and Torres.

Reina ia an excellent keeper, I just think we should start looking for a new excellent keeper. It might prevent us panic shopping when the time comes (like when we bought Poulson, Aqualani).

And Carroll was a bit of a panic buy too Gene. But yes, I'd imagine Kenny has options lined up. The fact is, our Keeper came out and made a kind of a "come and get me" interview to Arsenal and Man Utd. It's really a state of denial to suggest it was "just one interview in the spanish press". I don't want to see another Pepe interview like that, even if we lose the first 10 games of the season. Business done behind closed doors please.

Yea, I don't know why people are saying the interview was in Spanish as if that's some sort of explicatory factor. The fact it was in Spanish just means that there is no chance that the question was misunderstood or that Pepe got his words words wrong. bhn

I think most people understood where he was coming from in that interview. The biggest issue in that interview was that he refused to rule out a move to United when that specific question was posed to him. That upset a lot of people. If he had said there is no chance I would move to United, the fans would have no issues with him assuming he does not do a Mascherano.

The club went through a silly difficult few years, the last two especially, because of the madness of the owners.

We expect our players to see through these tough times, and respect the fact that the club was great before this period, and will be great once again. We don't need our top players to take these tough times, and our very vulnerable desire to see them not leave (which would exacerbate the tough times, should they leave) as an opportunity to make themselves bigger than the club. Pepe did this. And he's got an amends to make through actions, and to a lesser extent words.

On the other side, he has come out and been loyal at very important times too in fairness.

I expect my Liverpool players to be publicly loyal at the minimum. Keep the self serving honesty to your self. Business behind closed doors please.

Well, exactly. But he refused to rule it out. THAT's why he's a twat.

And the interview was in Spanish, but it was with an English journalist, Sid Lowe, who writes for the Guardian and maintains a good relationship with the England-based Spanish players. So Reina knew the piece would appear in England, and in English, and could have (perhaps did) asked to see the article before it ran. And as far as I'm aware, he hasn't complained about being misrepresented or 'set the record straight' as players usually do after being misquoted. So anyone blaming the media for twisting his words in this instance is fooling themselves.
