I'm a fan, not an accoutant. Hence I'd rather reina joined stockport county for a pork pie than join united for £1bn.
The same.

If indeed there is a clause in Reina's contract that means Liverpool would ultimately be powerless to stop him joining Utd then the fucker who allowed that situation to come about needs to be savagely and relentlessly kicked in the nutsack until the end of his days.
I don't think it's that simple. It wouldn't have been done in the first place if it didn't have to be, which suggests that without such a clause in the contract our chances of losing Pepe for peanuts (and probably not too far in the future either) would have been greatly increased.

but we could have dictated WHERE he goes if we couldn't dicatate HOW much he goes for, if there is a clause we are powerless.

Not if he ran his contract down, we couldn't - either that or we'd only have got buttons for him because any buying club would have known we had to sell.

Neil, any clause stating that Reina couldnt go to any particular club would probably be seen as a restraint of trade.

The fergie factor?

It's how things should be, it should be the unthinkable move.

Both sets of fans should be unhappy at the mere suggestion of it

I'm saying if there was no clause we could tell pepe straight out you can leave but don't go to united. sure he could insistant he wants to go to united (like baros to villa rather than lyon for more money for us) but I doubt he would. with the clause, if manu raise the money we have no say in the matter.

Why is everyone getting so worked up? He hasn't asked to leave, and he answered some questions honestly.
To say he has opened the door for a move to Utd is making this into a much bigger issue than it is.

He won't leave as we're on the up for the first time in 24 months. Mark mc thinks Spain and there are rumours about Utd. But I'll be very very surprised if he goes tbh. We live with rumours like this all the time.

Yeah, that's probably the situation.

Anyway as the thread says its just speculation.

We dont know if he wants to go, we dont know if theres a clause.

Hopefully I dont turn into a total cynic.

He also said this:
Reina has said today that we need to forget about Torres and continue to build.

If we manage to continue to shop at Harrods and get our summer targets Reina can win thropies at Anfield. Let's get on with it.

We'll just have to wait and see. I'd be gutted if Pepe left but you cant blame him if he's starting to feel a bit isolated now all his mates have gone.

That said, if he joins the mancs, he's got no excuses.

Maybe, but whatever: I love him less than I did before he opened his mouth about this.
Me too. It's been so nice not to have one fucker moaning after the other and I had hopes of some real squad solidarity and togetherness. Then this fucker goes off on international duty and runs off his mouth. I wouldn't be surprised if the club is furious.

Why was Heinze not allowed to come to us then?
I don't think there was a buyout clause in his contract.
Indeed, but disregarding this imaginary shithead, our keeper has just managed to link himself with a move to Manure. Fucking prick.
Fucking true.

And that's some achievement.

Mates? Isolated?

He signed a fucking contract and we pay him millions to do his job.

If he leaves for Utd I'll blame him the same way as Torres x infinity.

Yeah, I have a feeling we're going to win a lot of thropies.

Fuck Pepe, his insinuation is if we don't crack the Top for for CL footy, he is off. Nobody holds the club to ransom.

Bring loads of money if you want him. The Gooners vs. Scum. Highest bidder wins.

me 2. we'll do it with reina or without him, i'm confident of that, so if he wants to go, fuck him.

and krump's right, the very act of hinting at a move to utd is a jolly bad show - i hope he bucks his ideas up pronto.

The thought of a 160 page thread about Reina possibll, but maybe, but definitely, but gone, how much did we get, look at our shiny replacement thread makes me want to stick my dick in a bacon slicer.

I don't think he'll go to United but I think that Arsenal is a real possibility.

Manchester United have been linked to Barcelona's former Liverpool player Javier Mascherano, with Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson keen to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks.

I would scream if this happened.

Would love if he did...but if Szcensey has a half decent end to the season Wenger wont even consider a keeper imo

From The Telegraph;

Manchester United's interest in Manuel Neuer could be scuppered by Schalke's contract negotiations

?
By Mark Ogden

Last Updated: 7:15AM GMT 10/02/2011

Schalke are trying to thwart Manchester United’s pursuit of Manuel Neuer by opening talks with the Germany goalkeeper in an attempt to buy out a €15 million (£12.8 million) release clause in his contract.

Neuer, who impressed during Germany’s run to the World Cup semi-finals in South Africa last summer, is on United’s shortlist alongside Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg and Atletico Madrid’s David de Gea to replace Edwin van der Sar when the 40 year-old retires at the end of this season. Neuer, 24, is also a target for Bayern Munich.

United and Bayern are ready to take advantage of Neuer’s contract situation at Schalke, with his deal due to expire in June 2012.

It is understood that Neuer’s contract includes an escape clause that can be triggered by Champions League participants offering in excess of €15 million for the player.

However, the deal also allows Schalke to reject such an offer with the proviso that they increase Neuer’s €2 million-a-year salary by 20 per cent.

With growing interest in their goalkeeper, however, Schalke are ready to open talks over a new deal. Felix Magath, the Schalke head coach, said: “He is definitely with us until 2012. But we are in conversation and will meet again in the spring.

“The discussions so far suggest that we have a chance to extend Manuel’s contract.â€

United goalkeeping coach Eric Steele admitted this month that the club had identified three leading contenders to replace Van der Sar.

Liverpool's Pepe Reina has been considered by United, who are aware of the £20 million release clause in the Spaniard’s contract at Anfield, but the difficulties in prising a player from Liverpool, including the off-field furore that could affect any player moving between the clubs, has rendered Reina as an outsider to replace Van der Sar.

United could yet turn to Reina, who continues to interest Arsenal, should they fail to land any of their top three targets.

Schalke’s determination to retain Neuer could prompt United to firm up their interest in Stekelenburg, who is expected to leave Ajax this summer, but Atletico youngster De Gea has reiterated his readiness to remain in Madrid.

The Spain Under-21 goalkeeper said: “If you’re comfortable in your club, you do not look for anything. Football is so that, when you feel comfortable in a clb, there is no need to change. That’s my situation.â€

btw, who the fuck decided that £20m was an appropriate figure for the release clause? young, brilliant goalkeepers with great leadership qualities are like fucking gold dust - i'd probably want around £40m for him, so even as a gesture to placate him a clause of £30m would've been more like it.

of course, it's no doubt a rhetorical question - purslow, i assume. the question should've been, i suppose, that, given the wanker's horrible, slimy, public shcool accent, wasn't it entirely predictable just how much the guy was going to enjoy being bent over and fucked up the arse? shouldn't it have been obvious?

Tony Barrett has suggested that the release clause is 35 million; though if there is a release clause it was probably put there for the same reasons the Torres clause was inserted.

The way opinions have been posted here suggest that he is going already!

Meanwhile we have another few months of the season left where he is going nowhere. So no point of saying he is going to MU or or Ars now but come June, 35m will do nicely if he wants to go. It is on our terms or shut up MU/Ars!
