its more damning of our previous youngsters rather than the fact they were loaned. if they had the ability they'd still be in and around the top flight now. The ones with ability we've kept. If suso and sterling get loaned out i wouldn't immediately assume they were getting bombed out the club

Martin Kelly proved that wasn't the case. Even Ayala showed promise.

Pacheco has a wonderful opportunity here. I'm hardly his greatest fan, but to say he's gone "to die" is ludicrous. He's never had a better opportunity.
He is the exception SG, every other youth player loaned out over the years has been sold off.
Because they haven't been good enough.

Incidentally, i think pacheco will do well and he'll stay with us for another few years, but i think ultimately he'll end up back in spain in his mid twenties. I have concerns over his ability to adapt to the league.

Yes, they haven't been good enough (which is another conversation altogether) but a loan spell usually does spell the end. What Neil said is correct in my opinion. Its the same for a lot of the big clubs.

Will be interesting to see how many games he manage to start though, seeing that one of the starting berth will be their top scorer, Gary Holt's. Although they've got 2 strikers injured in Chris Martin and Aaron Wilbraham, with Sam Vokes signed on loan simultaneously, he could well have a tough fight on his hands for regular football. Hope he gains as much as possible though.

Meanwhile, promising Liverpool striker Dani Pacheco, known as 'El Asesino' (The Assassin) in Spain, arrives boasting a terrific record at youth level both for his club and country.

Twenty-year-old Pacheco was instrumental in Spain's run to the final of the Under-19 Championship's last summer as the tournaments top scorer, scoring four goals including one against City's Declan Rudd in a 3-1 victory over England in the semi-finals.

On the fringes of the first team at Anfield, this is Pacheco's first loan spell away from Merseyside since arriving from Barcelona in 2007, having made four appearances in all competitions for the Reds this season, three as a substitute.

Pacheco is also set to play a part in Spain's Under-21s fixture with France this Thursday.

CITY can now confirm that the relevant confirmation has been received from the Football League and the Football Association, completing the emergency loan moves for Sam Vokes and Dani Pacheco until the end of the season.

We can also confirm that Vokes will don squad number 35, while Dani Pacheco will wear the number 37 shirt.

CITY fans are right to be excited about Paul Lambert's loan swoop for Liverpool's Dani Pacheco according to a Sky Sports expert on the Spanish top flight.

Guillem Balague, a presenter on Sky Sports' Revista de la Liga and a provider of expert analysis and opinion to the Times newspaper and Spanish newspaper AS, said the Yellow Army should expect to see something 'completely new' following the arrival of the young Spanish Under-21 International at Carrow Road.

Speaking exclusively to Canaries.co.uk Balague said Norwich was the ideal loan move for Pacheco, who will don the number 37 shirt for the Canaries, commenting: "It is absolutely right to be excited. But it is very important for people to understand that he is not English, he does not play like an English player. He will add something completely new.

"It's a great idea to have him on loan for a bit," said Balague, "What you will find with him is that he is a player that plays between the lines, which if he is cleverly used can be a player who is very difficult to defend against in the Premiership, never mind in the Championship."

And in the Canaries, Balague believes Pacheco has found an almost perfect loan move, saying: "Norwich is a great club, a really great club for him to go to. Once again the expectations are high and the atmosphere is fantastic.

"He has an aura and flair to play good football and he is going to a Club where that is respected. Fans will respect that combination, although it is only for eight games."

Pacheco arrives at Carrow Road for his first loan spell away from Liverpool since joining from Barcelona in 2007, arriving in the Championship - a league known for it's very physical, high tempo nature.

But it is a test that the slight Spaniard can overcome with his technical ability, says Balague
: "Some people might say that Barcelona would be easy to defend if they went to a club like Stoke and got involved in a physical bout.

"But the problem with Barcelona is that you can not get close to them. So how can you kick them if you can't get close to them? They pass it around too quickly.

"With Pacheco it will be a similar thing. The Championship is a physical league, but if he is quick thinking, which he is and can see a pass quickly without holding onto the ball for to long, that sort of play is very difficult to defend.

"You can beat three players with one pass, or in one movement and he has got that."

And with eight games remaining, with City currently in second in the npower Championship table, the Spanish and La Liga expert thinks Pacheco's hunger and desire to play football means it is the right time for his arrival.

"He is arriving at the right time because he is hungry to play," said Balague, "I do just wonder whether a player who arrives at this stage of the season can get into the line up straight away - because who do you take out and would that create an imbalance?

"In a way, it is a difficult moment to arrive for him, but at the same time a good time because he is completely up for it. So I hope he gets given a chance."

Norwich City old boy Dalglish impressed with Pacheco’s talent

Canary old boy Paul Dalglish believes his former manager has “a real talent†on his hands in the shape of Liverpool’s Spanish starlet, Dani Pacheco.

Alongside Wolves striker Sam Vokes, the 20-year-old Under-21 international joined Norwich City on loan from Anfield until the end of the season – one the Canaries hope will finish with a prized place in the Premier League.

Dalglish, whose father and Reds legend Kenny returned to the Liverpool hot seat earlier this season, played under City boss Paul Lambert in his first job at Scottish side Livingston.

And the 34-year-old feels the excitement surrounding the arrival of former Barcelona forward Pacheco will be justified once he takes to the pitch, possibly for the arrival of Scunthorpe United at Carrow Road on April 2.

“I think Norwich fans should get really excited about this young talent, because I certainly get excited whenever I see him play,†said Dalglish, who made 48 appearances for City between 1999-2002, scoring twice.

“I’m a big admirer and I think the majority of Liverpool fans are admirers of his, and there will be a lot of them keeping a close eye on how he does.

“They all believe in this kid and they want him to progress and be a first-team player because of what they’ve seen in pre-season games and his stints in the first team. Norwich have certainly got a very talented player, a real talent.â€

Pacheco has made a handful of appearances for Liverpool this season in the Europa League, Premier League and Carling Cup.

Despite Pacheco’s small build, Dalglish, a regular observer of the Reds’ reserve and youth teams, is confident the forward will handle the rigours of Championship football – especially given City’s style of play.

“Gianfranco Zola, Messi, they’re not the biggest but I don’t think it matters if you’ve got the quality,†said Dalglish, who coached North American Soccer League side FC Tampa Bay last season before setting up a youth football academy in Austin, Texas.

“He’s a strong little boy. He’s short but when your touch is as good as his, it gets you out of a lot more trouble than when you are big and strong.

“He is a second striker, likes playing off another striker and can probably play on the outside of a front three as well. He likes playing in the hole too and is very successful when he does it, if he’s playing in a footballing team.

“I think any team in the Championship would have taken Dani and Liverpool looked hard at the style teams were playing and, with Norwich playing such an attractive style of football, he had to go to a team that does that because he is a terrific footballer.

“Liverpool have just gone out and spent £30m and £20m on two centre-forwards, and to expect Dani to go and compete with them is an unrealistic expectation.

“But there’s no doubtng players like him have got immense potential and have what it takes to become top players.â€

It'd be good that they let him kick the ball in anger a few times first before writing him up like he's the next Messi and putting so much pressure on him. His few starts this season have been meh and anything but impressive (albeit playing in a poor team). Just let the kid play his game, and judge him at the end of his spell, rather than raise unrealistic expectations and risk deflating him and the fans.

As long as the two Spanish guys who really matter (Pep and Rodolfo) stay, I'm not too arsed anymore about the likes of Reina and Pacheco threatening to leave.

Norwich City fans have been warned not to expect too much from loan signing Dani Pacheco, with manager Paul Lambert insisting: “He’s not Lionel Messi.â€

The Spain Under-21 international has joined the promotion-chasing Canaries from Liverpool for the rest of the season and has been training with his new team-mates at Colney.

But supporters excited by glimpses of Pacheco’s skills on the internet have been urged not to get carried away.

“He’s only a kid so people shouldn’t expect I’ve signed Lionel Messi. I haven’t,†said Lambert.

“You’ve got to get it out of your head right away. He’s not going to come in with everybody thinking this kid’s going to be a wonder. It’s nothing like that at all.

“I just see something in him – we might get the best out of the lad
.â€

Lambert thanked Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish, briefly his manager at Celtic, for sanctioning Pacheco’s loan move.

“I’ve spoken to Kenny for a good while now. The relationship I’ve got with Kenny, being at Celtic and that, he was great with me,†said Lambert.

“Kenny’s been a major help to us to get him but he’s only a kid, he’s only 20 years of age and has not played many first team games for Liverpool. In that type of environment, it’s hard to break into the side but I’ve seen enough to think we might just get something different from him.

“He certainly can pass it, control it. But he’s only a kid that’s learning the game and we’ve given him an opportunity to come out on loan. Just let the lad go and play.â€

Pacheco and Wolves striker Sam Vokes were the Canaries’ pre-deadline loan captures and, according to the manager, they have joined a very buoyant squad at Colney after a blank weekend on the fixture list

“I know exactly what the feeling is at training,†said Lambert.

“I think they needed the break mentally, the lads. It probably came at a time when we needed it because our efforts have been extraordinary and they needed a bit of help with some new lads coming in. They’ve come back and looked great.

“Going to Hull was one of the hardest games we’ve had and to not get beaten, to see it through when we were tired, was a huge point for us.â€

The City boss refused to look further than today’s visit of Scunthorpe, with his team a point clear in second place going into the final eight Championship games.

He said: “If you win eight games, you’ve done it, haven’t you? Nobody can catch you then, but that€™s a massive, massive ask. I don’t know what happens today, let alone what happens in eight games time. If we can win, it’s another one off the list.â€

Goal!! Grant Holt hits a very good right footed shot to the lower left corner from the centre penalty area (aprox. 6 yards) and scores!! Norwich City now leads 1 - 0

That last goal was assisted by Dani Pacheco (Cross from Left Penalty Area)

Poor Dani.
Comes off after seventy minutes with Norwich 3-0 up and Jackson who replaced him gets a hattrick.
6-0 FT
