Oxlade-Chamberlain

The Times today:

Liverpool have not ruled out pursuing their longstanding interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain, 24, and believe that they can tempt him to Anfield instead.

The attraction for Oxlade-Chamberlain of a move to Liverpool is that the club would play him in his natural position in the central or advanced role. At Chelsea, he might have to compete with Victor Moses as a wing back. He does not like playing in that role, as he has for Arsenal recently. Liverpool have been wary about pursuing the player after being told by Arsenal that they would not do business with them this summer, after the lingering acrimony over Wenger’s failed attempt to sign Luis Suárez in 2013. In addition, Liverpool took Wenger at his word when he said that Oxlade-Chamberlain would not leave.

Unbelievable nerve - they negotiate with Suarez behind our back, then bid a mere £1 over what they think is his release clause, we dismiss it, and, after unsettling one of our players, THEY think WE deserve to be punished?? Southampton must be pissing themselves laughing.

Bullet dodged. He's shite.

For that money he is, he's quick but that's about it, he's not going to be a great like-for-like when it comes to stepping in for Mane or Salah, and I'm yet to be convinced he can be anything special in the advanced central role. He's never struck me as having the vision to play there.

We also won't have to put up with years of people on here calling the screaming meff 'The Ox'. That alone makes me happy.

Decent squad player but not what we need, not at that price and especially not at those wages, and not if he won't want to play any position from wingback to waterboy.

For that reason, I'm out.

My guess (and admittedly that's all it is): this is 100% down to Wenger and his vanity. I'd lay odds that it was his little wheeze to bid that extra pound and that he's still miffed at John Henry wondering aloud what they were smoking over at The Emirates.

So Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a move to Chelsea and wants to sign for us.

That's to his credit. It's difficult to see how he would get into the team at the moment, but as the season progresses and players get injured, he might turn out to be useful.

I do not rate this lad too highly but trust Klopp sees more than I do! I respect his decision to uproot and move away from London and turn down the chance to play for the current champions, purely for football reasons.

It seems he wants to be a central midfielder in a Klopp side to develop as a footballer rather than an unloved bit part wing back for a bunch of plastic flag waving cunts. Fair play. Although everyone going to be mightily pissed off if he turns out to be Coutinho's replacement.

I don't see where he fits in. I love the idea of having even more direct, pacy, dribbling players, but I like the idea of having a functional spine more. It's not that I don't see him being useful but other spots are essential, he isn't.

If he comes here, he can probably straight away play in Lallana's position while he's injured and while Coutinho/Lemar gets up to speed. When Lallana comes back though, I'm really not sure where the Ox will fit in.

Back-up for Mane/Salah then I guess.

He's in a strong position (like Can) - see out the final year of his contract before potentially leaving on a free transfer whereas playing regularly at Arsenal if his desired move does not happen this transfer window.

Would be nice if we can do a Bayern (albeit against the rule on paper) and agree a free transfer for next season instead of splashing out £40m.

This just makes Wenger's decision to play him against us last Sunday just bizarre. And fair play to Klopp, finally using the Klopp factor even if it isn't a sexy German potential signing.

If Coutinho is leaving then we'll sign both Oxlade and Lemar I reckon, if possible.

I like Oxlade, but not for 40 mill.

It only makes sense if Coutinho is staying. I was convinced last night that he was a goner though. This morning even the Spanish press are skeptic- unless this is all an act.

It's Lemar or Oxlade Chamberlain?

That seems a bit odd considering the disparity in their value, & in their wage demands, chamberlains are insanely high cos he's English obv.

So the big question is, if we can't get Lemar for an acceptable price and our only option to replace Coutinho is Oxlade-Chamberlain, do we still consider that a "suitable replacement" and thus go ahead with the Coutinho sale or does failure to land Lemar automatically pull the plug on Coutinho deal? If we somehow end up with Ox as the only "replacement" for Phil, the fans will be fuming and rightly so.

Yeah, fuck that. Oxlade is in no way Shape or form any way a replacement for Coutinho.

Keep the rat if that's the case

It'd be season ticket burning time if the owners tried that shit.

I don't have a season ticket though, so I suppose I'd have to burn my armchair instead.

I dont think Coutinho will be allowed to leave if thats the scenario. I'm guessing he's been told he can leave if we get a suitable replacement in first.
