Oxlade-Chamberlain

I quite like Oxlade Chamberlain, he is reasonably quick and strong and versatile, it could also certainly be argued we could do with more squad depth.

All that aside his injury record is perturbing and paying 145,000 pound a week or whatever they have already offered him is nuts... 35M for a player in the last year of his contract also... That's big bucks...

I personally would rather we signed Can up onto a new contract...

I like him. Seems lost in a Wenger team that is clearly disfunctional both on the pitch and in the dressing room.
If they sell him it wont be for 35 mill if its clear he wont sign a new contract.

VVD and Ox are probably the two transfers that could happen imo.

Ox can provide cover for Mane and Salah. Besides those 2 our other options are not speedy. Anything to stop Firmino from playing on the flanks.

What did we offer Sterling? 100K? More?

If this kid is really turning down a 180K football really has gone mad because he's done nothing to warrant that kind of money and given that we supposedly already have quite a high wage bill, I wouldn't want us to get into the business of signing squaddies for near enough 200K. The top 3 can do that - we can't.

Could be more about where Wenger sees him starting and his role in the team? Then if we offer 130k and they 180k?
Or maybe I'm giving footballers to much credit.

That's what I thought

I reckon he's leaving arsenal due to a massive lack of ambition, and playing him anywhere they can, rather than where he's effective

[article]Stuart Pearce thinks that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be making the move to Liverpool rather than Chelsea.

“I can see why Arsenal want to keep hold of him but on the other side of that if I think Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain needs a new challenge now. I think he needs to hear a new voice from a manager.

“I see a good fit for him at Liverpool, I really do. I think the way Liverpool play, slightly more than Chelsea, would suit Chamberlain.

“He’s a high-energy player so I think maybe Liverpool would suit him slightly better - but a move, he definitely needs.”[/article]

My bet is it's mostly the lack of a regular first team place, which he probably thinks he's played well enough to have earned by now. The danger of being what we used to call a "utility player" is that you can get seen as a jack-of-all-trades but master of none. He probably thinks that's what's happened to him, and he may be right.

He will be an upgrade on Moses in that Chelsea set up. I think he would have been an interesting gamble on an attacking CM for us.

I'd have liked him, then we got linked with Lemar who i've never seen play in my life and the whole Ox think became a bit of a burden.

@ILD , @Sheik Yerbouti , @FoxForceFive - very interesting synchronized response. Out of curiosity - was it a more of a face saving type of response where you guys are hiding extreme disappointment of him going to Chelsea rather than us or was it genuine relief - like you think he is actually shit and are glad he is not coming to us ?

I think he's a bang average player so glad we didn't sign him

Cant speak for the others, but for me I genuinely didnt want him.

If he were 20m & his wages were more in line with what we pay our squad players, I'd be happy, but at the price & wages quoted it'd be a mistake imo.

I don't think he's shit. I don't mind him but he has supposedly turned down big wages at Arsenal and would be costing more than Salah. It's okay for Chelsea to sign him and allow him rotate with Moses as they can afford that luxury. I think we should be looking at different options to him. Happy to see us 'pass' this opportunity up.

Quite a few people have said they didn't rate him that much.
If on a free next season I'd like £10mil in Jan I'd be ok with that.. £35m is a lot of cash and just too much for ox

If he was going to be playing as one of the 3 in our CM, I think he could be a good signing but still has a lot to prove there - making it a largely theoretical signing. If we were signing him to be one of the front three, I don't think he has the attributes of a Mane or a Salah. It does worry me that he strengthens Chelsea there in the long run, whilst not making a huge different to Arsenal given he is such a part timer.

It will have a huge mental affect on Arsenal and their fans though which I am excited to see. Especially if we get Lemar in!

@ILD , @Sheik Yerbouti , @FoxForceFive - Ok thanks, you guys have put me at ease, I was disappointed slightly - but the potential signing of Lemar who I know fuck all about and the fact that the Ox is on the bench a lot kinda puts me in agreement with you guys. But certainly the money he is going to be payed etc.. - way too much for a benchwarmer/sickie type player from Arsenal.

So Ox is leaving a team where he wasn't allowed to play his preferred position ... to compete for the same position he didn't want to play in at Chelsea? Hmmm

Maybe he'll do well there and we'll all wonder "what if" but at the quoted figures he's a luxury signing that only the likes of Chelsea can make.

I can clearly see where he would slot in for Chelsea in their system – at RWB, which is a key position for Conte. He is well-suited for that position too, his low scoring numbers will be unimportant, but speed and energy and crossing ability will be a huge plus. I could never see where he would slot in for us, other than as a jack-of-all-trades, so this transfer makes all the sense in the world. I think he will do well for Chelsea, good move for him.

Happy enough that we aren't getting him, I'm sick of getting injury prone players.

Lallana is a prime example. With the time it will take him to get going this season is almost a write off
