Our Signings - how do they make you feel ?

Suarez has carried the team for the last 4 years. Creating chances for himself and scoring. How many of the players we've signed are match winners?
That's the my biggest gripe with the signings we've made so far. Sanchez would have been a perfect replacement.
Sure, we finally have the numbers, we can replace Sterling with Markovic or Sturridge with Remy but we're still missing that element of fear. Suarez was a nightmare for other teams and his presence alone opened up space for other players on the pitch.
Sorry, but if we don't sign a top top top player, I doubt that we'll be able to compete for the league this season.

I agree that we need a match winner, but why keep banging on about Sanchez? We didn't get him and we tried to, he wanted to live in London, so location meant more to him than what club he went to, ultimately. People keep going on about Sanchez like we had him there for the taking and decided not to.

Origi is one for the future and a good investment.

Of the other 6, four are coming from other premier league teams having settled and established themselves in this league to good effect. That's the big difference for me to where Spurs went wrong.

Spurs had loads of midfielders and bought loads more. That was the problem.

What do people expect us to do? Our squad last year was abysmal. As bad as I've known it. We had all kinds of areas to strengthen, but a pretty strong first XI. Improving the depth is where the value was. Anyone can see that. Spurs had the opposite problem.

That's why it's different.

We are addressing our weaknesses unlike Spurs who went out and strengthened their strongest points (midfield) and weakened their weakest point (sold Caulker). Also our team is much better than Spurs' was after they sold Bale, finally, we'll sign one more big player for the team, no doubts there, so we aren't quite doing a Spurs.

I'm waiting to see if we do get another signing. Everyone we've got so far are decent, to maybe good, but I'd like that one player that could be special. Markovic is the only one I think could be that so far. With the squad the way it is, we'd do very well to stay in the top four.

I've never been more pleased at this stage of a transfer window in about a decade. And I'm generally always complaining. Let me put it like this - we've not signed a shit player yet - something we do EVERY summer.

As long as we get a worldy like Isco, I'll be happy.

My gut is that Lovren, Remy, Markovic will do very well.

Lallana will do well as well, though we blew too much on him. I reckon he'll end up being something like our Milner, which is cool.

Lambert will be ok - I think we'll get serviceable use out of him for 2 years, but that's about it.

Can is a kid, but we'll need to be patient with him, just as with Henderson. I'm not expecting anything other than energy from him this year, but he looks to have some excellent attributes, and could be a very good player in 2 years.

We do need a proper talented attacking player though, and I do think we'll get one. As long as that happens, this will be as good a window we could have had.

I'm not convinced by any of our left-back targets though, and my gut is that that will be our token shit signing of the summer.

My only other gripe is the reluctance to go out and buy a top midfielder as a Gerrard replacement.

It'll certainly be a challenge, but that's a bit over the top. Currently we're pretty evenly matched with United and Arsenal for 3rd and 4th, with Arsenal slightly edging it, and United being slightly behind.

This. We should be going all out to sign a world class central midfielder.

A bit underwhelmed to be honest but I like the Lovren, Markovic and Lambert signings. Lallana and Remy is decent, don't know much about Can. Origi looks an exciting prospect for the future. There's no world class signing to make us go Wow.

The squad is much stronger on the whole so lets see if we can live up to the hype and expectation for this season.

Well it does matter to me if we're trying to get all 6 players to settle in a new country/league etc rather than 2 out of 6. There's a range of (albeit lesser) factors that influence whether a player hits the ground running, many of which relate to feeling settled quickly in a new culture/environment etc.

That said, I think your general point above is a good one - they're mostly 'very good' players (with potential) rather than 'brilliant' like Suarez. We've got a tough start too fixture-wise so really need the squad to gel quickly, else we'll be under pressure about 8 games into the season and adrift from the top 4.

Suarez found brilliance at Liverpool. Our signings all have potential to make the step up to the next level and we offer the right environment for them to improve.

We have done it very different to spurs.. We have bought many players that are premiership proven, 3 of them from one team that play a similar type of football to us and our philosophies. .

Spurs player where tracked and bought by the board, and then management told to get on with it and create a system for them

These signings are all Rodgers signings with a System and style of play in mind.

So anyone saying were in danger of doing a spurs are wide of the mark

Good point. Ive got similar hopes for Markovic, though he'll potentially be a very different player of brilliance to Suarez. Sterling too.

I'm encouraged by the signings. All give me good gut.

But - I'm not convinced by all our signings under Rodgers overall. It's a 50:50 success ratio think.

I hope his ratio has improved

Who knows how each individual will fit in.

The question in the thread title asked for a response. I didn't read anyone elses response, I gave a succinct reply in keeping with my own opinion. I'm sorry if this has caused you some distress.

Apart from Markovic it's hardly been exciting.
We knew we were signing Lallana since March which kinda takes the edge off it I suppose.
Still can't get excited though.

Markovic - No idea. I've never seen him play. I have a hunch he'll be a very good signing, but it's based on nothing.
Can - No idea. He looked decent for the 10 minutes I saw of him the other day. Made one great challenge.
Lambert - OK. Decent back-up for Studge, and can play as part of a front two.
Lovren - Good signing. He will be a regular starter alongside Skrtel. Attitude might be a concern.
Lallana - Not sure. He seems overpriced to me. We have quite a lot of players in his position too.
Remy - Decent player, versatile, good price. Allegedly has an attitude, I think he will be a good signing.


So far I'm happy enough under the proviso that a couple more players come in. We should have the budget a couple more big signings, so I'll wait and see before making a final judgement.
