Our own 'Green Brigade', who's up for trying to create a new group?

Hi all, posted this on RAWK, trying to get as many people on board and therefore my first post here
action-smiley-065.gif

Hi all, after the performance of ourselves today at Anfield, never mind the players, I feel a tad ashamed to be a supporter tonight, the abuse some of our own are giving Kenny, the abuse some of our own are giving to the likes of Henderson, Carroll, Spearing etc etc is sickening. I'm fed up with it and I believe it's time to create a change, I've been having a few discussions with KopiteWD about the atmosphere at the ground, we both feel that we as the supporters need to try and either revive RTK or create a new group altogether (which would probably be a good idea). Something along the lines of what Celtic are doing with their 'Green Brigade'.

KopiteWD has suggested meeting up during the month of April (as many people as possible, would love 50 to 100 or so for a first meeting) for a reserve match and bring along banners, flags, scarves, the works and from there try to create some form of recognised group, similar to how Spirit of Shankly are recognised amongst LFC fans, from there, hopefully we can grow in numbers and get some sort of contact going within the club, again similar to what the Green Brigade have with the Celtic board. Only putting this out as a feeler to see what people think as the last RTK thread has seemed to die a quick death. LFC reserves play United on the 19th of April at 2pm at Prenton Park, seems perfect surely...

Please do not turn this thread into a Scouser vs OOT debate, it's not what's needed and it's not how we are going to resolve the problems we are suffering at the minute

Kop mantra, please watch if you haven't before:

We all support the team and the manager, hence the frustrations being vented here. We complain 'cause we care. But you're right it's wrong to abuse the players during the game.

Not being funny scud but wish you luck trying to convince some on here not to slag our players off. It's like a hobby for some of the nobheads on here plus trying to moblise this shower to go to a reserves game when few of them can summon up the will to actually dehook themselves from their armchairs or streams to get to a first team game is about as likely as us winning the league. They will tell you how shit the atmosphere was and how people should really behave at the game though.

Bit harsh that Sean. What's the point of running an internet forum then? You've spent countless hours ensuring LFC fans all over the globe can put their feelings forward then told them their opinions are worthless because they're not the same as yours.
I live in Australia now so am I one of the "nobheads"?

Atmosphere has been shite at anfield for a few years. Only seems to be the big games that the crowd gets up for.

I think it's possible to have an opinion about a player (not good enough) but at the same time hope he'll make it/plays better. But there's no reason to ever boo at a certain player.

Very true and completely agree

Massive nail on head interface.

And he's not having a go at those who can't get to games. He's having a pop at the perennial moaners.

The atmosphere at Anfield had already started to flag when we were still winning championships - a generation had seen nothing but success and even winning the league was being treated as merely par for the course. I always suspected that, as this lean spell went on, we'd get a younger generation so hungry for success that they'd inject some energy and noise into the atmosphere, but if anything the opposite's happened. The relentless nostalgia doesn't help - every other month there seems to be yet another play, film, poem, song, DVD or documentary on 2005, and now LFCTV is bombarding viewers with endless repeats of the League Cup win. Everyone's living in the past in the present. That just adds to the incredible impatience of those who cannot come to terms with where the club currently is. Even as supporters we're living in the past, constantly patting ourselves on the back for what great supporters we are when in fact we're put to shame by plenty of other clubs' fans. We do need to change our attitude because it's damned embarrassing to be in the crowd at Anfield sometimes these days - not for what happens on the pitch but for what fails to happen in the stands.

I think I get both sides here ... but I think what many people here are on about is that there's no patience whatsoever anymore. But this is as much a symptom of modernity, and the fact success has to be immediate. Microwave generation I call it ...

We've had a poor season - but there are things that can leave as hopeful. A brilliant CB partnership, development of key players, we won a cup (hopefully 2), etc. Granted, there have been some concerning signs with the team and Kenny's management. But I think, or perhaps want to believe, he can push this team back to where it should be. He's earned one more year in my book at least.

I don't go to games, and I moan sometimes.

Behave you. The 61 goes fucking everywhere

Exactly right.

It's weird sometimes when your singing at the match and people look at you like you're the weird one. We have become blase as fans though we act like deserve success and all kinds throw a big soppy girlie sit-down-to-wee hissy fit when we don't get it.

Yep. I notice there are loads who get up at the start to hold up scarves and sing YNWA but when they sit down again there's an air of 'Well, that's that, thank god!'

They might drop their camera or their pear drops you see.

A question: Who on SCM is an matchgoer who sings and, [the actual important part of this], do you go with, or know any, young fans who are picking up the traditions and songs and keeping them alive?

I'm a matchgoer in the centenary

That should answer the question

you think that's bad? i went to an Arsenal - Liverpool game at the Emirates a few years back with an Arsenal fan, sitting with their fans. not only did i make more noise cheering for us than anyone around us did supporting Arsenal, but my mate actually got told to be quiet when he tried to get behind them.

i'm sure all of what's said above is true, but ticket prices and all-seater grounds imo will also have played a part.

Yeh loads are mate. There's not enough of them though because auld bastards like me still go. As Vlad once said - it used to be as you moved on in years you'd mpve out to the stands and let the young blood have your space on the Kop but all seater stadiums changed all that. Plus young lads are pretty much priced out of the game now and replaced with lazy arsed middle-aged bellends who cant be arsed singing. I dont know who's worse them or the stream watching bellends in Oz who can't be arsed jumping on the 61 for the short journey to the ground.

Genuine question, was the atmosphere any better or worse under Rafa's reign?

I only got to 3 games in Rafa's 6 years(all league games), and i wouldn't say the atmosphere was electric by any means but there was certainly more songs and more of a buzz compared to the last few years. In saying that, there was still too many spells of near silence as well.

I was forced to sing "glory Man Utd" while sitting (standing) with away fans at upton park. Fucking hooligans the lot of them.
Jumped when Reo Coker scored the winner, nearly got killed. Great times.

It depends on many factors. How important the game is, the competition it's played in, the team we're playing, the time of the game and, most crucially, how we seem to play on the day. Some days you go the match and there's no reason at all for lack of atmosphere whereas, on the flip side, a simple crunching challenge can extremely invigorate the crowd. It's became all a bit Spartacus though. Like the crowd expect blood before the start cheering.

I agree the abuse is uncalled for....but at the same time, it shouldn't affect our players. If it does, then it means Kenny isn't doing well enough. It is part of his job to work on player's mental toughness.....

Oh...i'm firmly behind Kenny, before some of you start giving me grief for not supporting the club..
