he is obviously been signed as the young deal fell through. So i imagine with his injury record he will be a squad player, with a new signing on the way.

Fabio Aurelio has set his sights on making a quick return to match action. Having already flown out to Germany in order to link up with the Reds he hopes to be involved in Sunday's friendly with Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Also on his mind is staying fit. The Brazilian has ensured an injury plagued few seasons with Liverpool.

The 30-year-old defender said: "I feel very pleased and proud. It feels like I am signing for the first time - everything has changed so it is like a new beginning for me with new confidence and a new boss. Hopefully I can do well this season.

"My aim is to help the team do better than last season. Everything is going really well, so I think we can progress a lot. We have made some good additions to the team and we can be very confident."

He added: "I have been working for a while by myself since the end of my contract and trying to keep fit in pre-season, so I think I am in good condition.

"Hopefully I can have some involvement in the game against Moenchengladbach."

Aurelio made 71 appearances for Liverpool under Rafael Benitez.

How many seasons was that in.... Fucking hell. I can see him having to get a second job if he's on pay as you play.

Haha he could get a part time job in tesco but he'd probably slip on a spillage on aisle three and throw out his hip.

I love Fabio, delighted about this.

AURELIO HAS FREAK INJURY WHILE RE-SIGNING FOR LIVERPOol
The Times

Roy Hodgeson's rebuilding plans suffered a major setback today when major signing Fabio Aurelio injured his groin while smiling after re-signing for the club. There are early indications that this may prompt Hodgson to enter the transfer market once again and sources are reporting that a surprise move to bring Argentine left-back Emiliano Insua back to the club may be in the offing.

Where is the like button?

We will still need a left back good enough for the first team for the 50% of the games that he isn't fit for but personally, and I know there are lots of posters who don't like Fabio( and some of them aren't keen on Aurelio either 😉) I would welcome him back as an excellent member of the squad.

Decent defender, decent going forward, intelligent and experienced, pity he is made of delph china.

Boo and hiss

I'm delighted. One player I have always loved. He is very good, and I hope he can stay injury free for longer periods.

Quite happy about this. We still obviously need another left-back but Aurelio has some quality and we obviously are saving funds with this deal. If we were just looking to spunk some cash on a mediocre left-back anyways....

YES!!

*prepares message to mods to be 'Alrighty-o' again*

I knew you moved too soon!!!

hahaha delighted..

i like Aurellio - His technique is far better than any player we could have purchased under 5 million.

I hope the Aussie miracle men work wonders with him..

Great news I think to be honest. We shouldn't have let him go. He started the rout of Man Utd with a I think we just need someone workmanlike and reliable to be a solid option if/when Aurelio gets injured. I wouldn't be that bothered if it was Paul Konchesky. Would rather the Wigan fella.

Looking back, selling Warnock wasn't the smartest move.

I think that's only league appearances ..... he's played around 110 in total.

We're linked with Parker and Figuero in today's papers again.
I will be really happy with both of them.

I want Figueroa because he is solid and will strengthen team. Parker would be prohibitively expensive. At £10M Defour and Banega are fantastic option. They have the added benefit of youth on their side whereas Parker is already 30.

If we can secure a quality LB, then re-signing Aurelio as cover seems a good move.

If Aurelio is seen as primary LB, then this move is pretty sideways..though selling Insua is still a good idea.

My guess is that Arelio is a bit of a panic buy for the deadline, can someone confirm that he's eligible to play?

Spot on. To improve this position, we need someone better than Insua, and less injury prone than Aurelio, else this signing is a bit feeble.

Good to have Fab back. Rafa's farewell message to him was nice and for him to say those things must mean Fab is a top pro. Let's hope he can stay fit.

Yeah, it's a sensible move, and Fabio is a favourite of mine, who I think was slightly underrated during his time with us.

I could understand why we didn't offer him a new deal - but in the current market, with our budget, finding 2 new LB's was always going to be a struggle.

We still need another decent LB though, and one whose fitness we can rely upon.

I agree Squiggs and that is why I think it is important that should Figeroa (sp) or Koncheskey (putting personal opinion aside) be our first choice that we stop faffing about and do the deal. We need to have someone signed up soon.
I see your point, but i have my doubts Konchesky is even an improvement on Insua.
Mate, the worms in the Anfield turf were more effective than Insua last season.

He's fucking awful, and even Konchesky would be an improvement (although not enough of an improvement, IMO)

I like Aurelio. Although I assume we're going to sign another LB for the 60% of games that Fabio can't manage.

I'm very pleased with this, I think fabio is an excellent player who is hampered by injuries. hopefully our new physios will be able to get to the route of his problems and improve his fitness.

It's looking like Insua's staying.

You know what... I'll back him. I don't thinkl he's anywhere near as bad as has been made out. I'd be happy enough if he stayed.
