I like Aurelio. Although I assume we're going to sign another LB for the 60% of games that Fabio can't manage.

It's looking like Insua's staying.

You know what... I'll back him. I don't thinkl he's anywhere near as bad as has been made out. I'd be happy enough if he stayed.

Gah! He's a fucking disaster area!

In a dysfunctional team.. absolutely.

But... he was thw sacrificial lamb (alongside Lucas) last season... but.... only Man Ure & Chelsea conceeded less than us... so there's an argument for saying that our defensive problems are overstated. Insua's attacking contribution in terms of assists was good.

He has flaws... but he also has ability... and he is very young.

In terms of development he's way ahead of the likes of Aurellio & Warnock where at the same age.

Is he "good" enough... at a stretch maybe... I still think we were letting him go cheap and is wrth hanging on to for a season or two.

Problem is that Insua & Aurelio are both back-up LB's.. nad we do need someone else.

So leaving aside Insua's 'talent', in your scenario we still need another LB? So what's the point?

That a colossal waste of wages, and poor management. Insua should leave and someone better should come in his place.

I'd be alright if Aurelio stayed healthy enough to be first choice and Insua slotted in as necessary and was given time to develop. But Aurelio's health remains a mystery and can we afford to have Insua playing 45 games this year again? I'd suggest not.

Meh.

We still need better both in fitness and ability at left back.

Have never been convinced by Aurelio.

If we had to pick between buying another left-back and buying another striker and we could pick only one, I'd be happy with Aurelio. </hypothetical situation that we are not in but essentially might as well be in>

Aurelio may be a decent enough player but is injured so often that he is useless as both first choice and as back up.

Insua would in theory be good enough back up. However being back up to Aurelio makes you first choice by default, and he's too shit for that. If he was back up for a player who isn't broken then he'd be a very highly paid one.
Result - either get rid of both of them, or get rid of Insua, buy a decent left back and keep Aurelio in a cotton wool lined box

The future of left back Emiliano Insua remains in the balance after he made his first appearance of pre-season in the 1-0 defeat to Borussia Moenchengladbach.

The Argentina international looked set to complete a move to Italian side Fiorentina after the two clubs agreed a price for around £5m but the move stalled last week after the player couldn’t agree personal terms.

New Reds boss Roy Hodgson “Insúa decided that he is still undecided about his future and was therefore able to be selected.â€
