I think you also have to bear in mind that Lukaku gets more than a few of his goals on breakaways too. That isn't how United play so there will need to be some adjustment. Don't understand this TBH. Morata would have been a better fit but I'm very happy wherever Lukaku goes, United or Chelsea, because I've never rated him as top quality and don't feel he would strengthen either team significantly. He'd likely suit Chelsea's modus operandi better though so United is perfect.

* hearing it's now not agreed. No doubt Chelsea are going to come back with a superior offer, exactly what Everton wanted, a bidding war between two monied clubs.

Mourinho loves to stifle games against decent opposition & score goals on the counter, so I'd say he fits exactly what Mourinho wants.

Yep. Unfortunately I think he'll be better at United than he would have at Chelsea. Good move by Mourinho, also killing two birds with one stone by getting rid of Rooney.

Mourinho got the very best out of Drogba. He'll know how to integrate Lukaku into that side.

-----------Lukaku-----------
-Martial--Pogba---Mkhitaryian--
------Matic----Herrera-----------

A lot of any improvement relies on Pogba increasing his goals and assists. Lukaku wont add many more goals than Ibrah last season.

Mourinho is building so he can hammer us on set pieces isn't he?

I mean.. just imagine us defending a corner against the likes of Lukaku, Pogba, Matic and Fellaini..

Do you ever look at Mourinho, then think what Tony Pulis could have done if he had the same resources? It's hoof type football

Lukaku – compared to Ibra – will add pace, which is very important for Mourinho teams. He didn't have the personnel to play this way for most of last season; now I suspect United will start playing more like a classic Mourinho team, sacrificing possession and territory in order to hit teams on lightning-fast counters. I don't like this development one bit.

Mourinho finally got his Drogba

Well, he's certainly big, quick and powerful. And black.

But I'm not sure it's a great comparison, given that Lukaku is shit in the air and not very good at holding the ball up - his touch is woeful.

But he's arguably a better finisher.

One of the best 2-3 FB in the world, who can't get consistently into the first team at Juventus and at age 26 still has not played ANY competitive matches for his national team (like really, zero competitive games)? As they say in Brooklyn, give me a break. He's not bad, but not top, top level. If you wanted to see what a real world-class full-back looks like, you only needed to check out the 34-year-old Dani Alves on the opposite flank...

If this is what £61M gets you these days, then we should offer 100M each for Keita and Van Dijk and it would still be a bargain.
Rurik, my good man. Where are you getting your information ? It's shite !

He has 6 caps for his country including winning the Copa Libertadores. But it's no surprise he doesn't have more because who is he up against ? Marcelo !! Probably the best LB in the world. That also isn't to say that he hasn't started to achieve his potential, just look at his improvement at Juve this season.

Can't get into the first team at Juve ? He played 43 games for them last season (inc. 25 starts in Serie A and 9 starts in the CL. He and others were held back in some of Juve's Serie A games for the CL). Including every minute for Juve from the Last 16 all the way through to the final (so every minute of the matches versus Porto, Barca, Monaco and RM games). That sure indicates he's struggling to get into the Juve team doesn't it 🙄

Sandro vs Alonso plus same charts for Mendy, Marcelo & Alba. Sandro's is beyond impressive.

The fact that lucas of all players was able to completely nullify lukaku a few months back should be enough to tell you hes not a drogba , hes lethal and it is a shame hes going to utd , however .

And the Matic deal isn't done. Could it be in doubt now ?

For me Lukaku is nowhere near as good as Drogba – one was a fighter and a leader, Lukaku is still a bit of a kid skating through on pure talent. But I bet Mourinho will figure out how to use his strengths (and mask weaknesses); probably Jose's biggest strength as a coach is boiling down complex tactical issues to a few simple instructions than even the thickest player can understand. He will probably be frustrated with Lukaku sometimes, but he'll improve him for sure.

Why would Lukaku want to play for Jose again after the issues at Chelsea, didn't sound like it ended well at all

£££

He would be asking for Rooney money which Man U could afford. With the interest from Chelsea he will get what he wants.

It's a fair question, but for all the dislike he can sometimes generate Mourinho does seem able to repair that kind of past problem with a player. When he originally went there I wondered how long Mata would last, but he has and there's no sign of that changing.

There were no issues he just wanted first team football. Mourinho is no good with kids but he's older now.

Maureen had a right bitch about Lukaku when he was at Chelsea and fucked him off when he could have been very useful to him. I have a lot of time for Lukaku, and it will be interesting to see if Maureen can help him fulfil his potential. At the moment he isn't a Drogba, by any means, but he has the tools to be that kind of player. Hoping not, of course.

Copa Libertadores is a club competition, Froggy 🙂 All the 7 caps were in friendlies, so far at age 26 he didn't play a single minute for Brazil NT in a competitive match. Which means he's firmly behind both Marcelo and Felipe Luis in the pecking order (and also behind Dani Alves playing on the wrong flank). So the player you claim is "one of 2-3 best full-backs in the world" is actually the 4th-choice LB in his country alone.

As for Juve, in the last 18 league games of the season, he started 9 of them. He was first-choice in the CL this season, but not last season. Again, this is all not bad – but you'd expect much, much more from one of the best FBs in the game at the prime of his career. At 26 we are talking about "improvement"? C'mon.
