Oldham, yo!

Yes, we've been awful of late. Only 2 teams in the league have picked up more points than us.
Its a shambles and we're clearly not progressing....

Come on mate, you're very wrong on this point

What the fuck are you talking about? We'd be third if that was the case!

Yes, but I think the error Rodgers made was in nor selecting Carragher at the back to marshal a young defence and probably Shelvey in mid instead of playing 4 forwards.

We win the midfield battle and marshal our defence properly and it's a win.

Instead we defend like dicks and leave the midfield groping around to assert themselves.

Rodgers mistake was then compounded by some piss-poor decision making and finishing in the attacking third.

I don't think anyone from Liverpool comes out with credit, but it's not just the players who should cop the blame for this debacle.

Yeah that's fair enough. I'd never play Coates, ever. Even before this game. But those players are near enough all internationals against a team that could go out of the football league altogether.

The reason we lost was because we missed our chances and gifted them their goals. Criminal at any level.

And yeah, I wouldn't have played 4 forwards.

Rodgers can only train, coach and pick the team his squad allows, he can't be responsible for grown men behaving like flacid pussies when they meet a team of Orcs like Oldham and Stoke, the players are to blame and should be ashamed of themselves, several of them need to grow a pair. Coates is sadly unfit for Liverpool FC.

He can teach his team to defend though. Or is that to be left to someone else.

Kenny deserves a lot of credit for getting us to two cup finals. Dont we usually go out very early when we've been good the year before? Always seems the case.

Spot on. A manager who had a bizarre strategy of actually trying to win the competitions we entered.

True, but i would still say that the adult men(who get paid paid bucket fucking loads of money, more than the average lifetimes salary every year)he selected got pushed around like school kids again and they should shoulder most if not all of the blame.

Brendan has jotted a few notes today:
1. 4--2-4 IS NOT a good system he should stick to 4--3--3
2.playing 3 inexperienced defenders with the reserve goalkeeper and you are asking for trouble.
3.Borini lacks the bottle to play for liverpool and should join his fellow bottler Aquilani in Italy.
4.Play your best team and rest them once you have the game safe with a good lead.

I really cant believe people are giving Rodgers stick for his team selection. We had more than a good enough 11 to beat Oldham ffs.

We lost because we failed to match them for effort, because of individual mistakes and some rash decision-making and finishing in the final third.

FIRE RODGERS

(let's see how angry gary gets before he realizes i'm taking the piss and want to give rodgers every opportunity to win the league)

Our defensive organisation is piss poor. The system is too open and it's been obvious since West Brom away on the first day. It's great having all these fancy dans upfront, we've got no fucking spine or cohesion without the ball. At the minute we're the anti-Benitez side.

And yet only 6 teams have conceded fewer goals than us in the league and only 1 team have more clean sheets.

Not that I dont agree about Rodgers needing to learn and not be so naive in some away games and against certain teams. But we're not THAT bad.

The league is poor in terms of defending though, so I wouldn't read too much into the stats. It's pretty clear we're nowhere near as solid as we have been for most of the last decade.

Teams that score against us seem to read from the same manual:

1. Be physically imposing, be mean and aggressive - they're afraid of body contact
2. Leap high, leap high - their white men can't jump
3. Far post, far post, far post - their full backs don't watch their far posts
4. Shoot low, shoot hard; pounce on the rebound when their keeper inevitably fumbles the low ball
5. If you see Wisdom in front of you, cross.
6. If all else fails, score the best goal of your lifetime. Always works.

Only 6. That's great that is. Wow 7th best. Awesome.

So we have the 7th best defence.

Which might explain why we're 7th in the League.

We've definitely lost some defensive cohesion under Rodgers - but our attacking ability has improved.

We've gone from a counter attacking team that can hurt top teams but fail to beat shit teams - to being more successful at beating shit teams while failing to beat top teams.

Except when we play our fringe players en masse - then we struggle against pub teams.

Another humiliation of our club at the hands of some shite team, in a competition we could have won. It's entirely the fault of the manager for picking that defence. Everyone can say what they want about it should have been good enough, but everyone also knows that defensive expertise comes from playing together in a settled selection. Throwing together a bunch of reserves (bar Skrtel), away, in the FA Cup was asking for trouble and once again we are making the sort of headlines that prospective signings will look at and further realise we are no longer anywhere near being a top team.

When Tal posts, you know it's bad. He (or she) only posts when people are angry, and frustrated. One can only hope we don't see him/her for a long time!

Maybe Rodgers could do with bringing in a defensive coach come the summer?

Ok, we're a team learning a new style of play and some deficiencies are inevitable but our defensive organisation is certainly something we need to look at.
