Ok - Who's the LFC player you most regret never having seen at Anfield.

Similar to @Red Astaire's thread, over the years there's been some outstanding players at the club, but besides a few of the dinosaurs on the site, not all of us would have had a chance to see them all. I'll start of simple, and leave the interesting players to you. Mine's Suarez, I was absolutely gutted I couldn't get a ticket at the end of last season to see him play and was unable to get to Anfield the seasons previous. Now he's buggered off, I'm almost tempted to go to Stevies game on the 28th just to see him play, but Suarez playing a friendly isn't the same as Suarez in a competitive match. Anyway, that's mine, who are you most gutted you never got a chance to see play?

Suarez can't play any other way, he'll be running his bollocks off in that match & tearing through players (hopefully biting off Terry's nose in the process).

Hard one this, cos I saw perhaps Barnes best season when I first started going the match, & I saw Dalglish at the end of his career, molby too.

I'd have loved to have seen Kenny in his pomp though. The man could still play for sure & you could see touches of genius, but he wasn't the player I've seen in videos.

King Kenny. No doubt. I saw Souness play after Liverpool, but I'd like to have seen him in red too, and Barnes I'd have loved to have seen, but KK is the number one.

The King for me too. I would have loved to have seen him in the flesh. I sure saw plenty of him on the box but it's not the same. Another I'd go with is Keegan. I haven't even seen much of him on the box let alone in the flesh. Everyone that I know that did often speaks of him with awe!

Another vote for the King, whom I never got to see live.

Did see Keegan though, a fizzing bundle of energy with springs in his heels who never gave opposition defences a second's peace, one of the fastest players I've ever seen running with the ball at his feet. Not the greatest Liverpool player ever (for me the King wears that crown) but quite possibly the biggest over-achiever of them all.

Elisha Scott ... slightly before my time. What was he like in the flesh @Judge Jules?

I'm sure I mentioned this before but my Grandfather used to regale me with a myriad of LFC stories from way-back-when and loved telling me about the relationship between Elisha Scott and our right back James (Parson) Jackson.

Scott was from Belfast, very vocal and apparently every 2nd word was fuck, shite etc. It didn't help that our right back, Parson Jackson, was very religious (an actual Parson) and deplored bad language. Apparently after many disagreements about Scott's vocabulary they came to an agreement that Scott would not swear directly at Jackson and Jackson would pretend he didn't hear Scott's diatribes.

This from wiki - regarding his encounter with Dixie Dean.

A famous story, possibly apocryphal, associated with the two men was that of how they once encountered each other in Belfast city centre the day before an Ireland versus England game. Dean, famed for his remarkable heading ability touched his hat and nodded to Scott as they were about to pass only for Scott to respond by diving as if to try to save an imaginary header, much to the initial shock and then delight of the locals who witnessed it while a mildly shocked Dean smiled and quietly continued on his walk.

😀

My Grandfather was behind the goal that Scott (LFC) were defending and the fog came in. It got that bad that the ref abandoned the game but apparently Scott did not hear the instruction as the other players left the pitch. According to my Grandfather Scott was in goal for 2 or 3 minutes screaming "ref I can't see a fucking thing", "Parson which end is the ball at?", "where the fuck is the defence?" etc before he realised he was on the pitch on his own. Apparently he was furious that they all walked off without him.

Good stories.

He also had great taste in jumpers, if the old b&w photos are anything to go by

I'm incredibly lucky to have seen all the modern greats in the flesh. I was too young to remember too many details of them, (Hughes, Toshack, Keegan, Smith etc) but I did see them. I'd have to go back to Ron Yeats, St. John, Sir Roger etc. and I'd have loved to have seen Billy Liddell too. My old man loved that man and used to tell me all about him and the team that came after in the mid-60s.

Those were the days when there was still an oral tradition where stories grew and were embellished so the players became super-human and their exploits took on an a miraculous quality. Now we get four idiots discussing every moment of even the most innocuous game with super-slo-mo replays from 15 angles.
Load of bollocks.

I'm probably one of the few on here to see Daniel padelli play for us

All of them. I've never had the opportunity to go 🙁
I've been a massive supporter since I was 5 (40 years ago). Sad reality.

Emlyn Hughes for me too. He was captain when I first started following LFC as a kid and his enthusiasm and infectious personality seemed to embody the Liverpool spirit; he has always been my favourite LFC player.
