Nothing game Vs FC Midtjylland CL Weds

I feel its wrong to call it a nothing game. Winning the game gives you 2,7 mill euros in TV money share, and a draw is 900k.
Losing to a Danish team shouldnt be an option either, sorry KHL.

Always look to win, and treat each game as you have to win to keep momentum going. And in a season were our income has dried up, getting another 2,7 mill is always a good thing.

The teamsheet should be a good mix of youngsters and players that need more minutes or that doesnt need a rest.

The thing about Cain is that he'll really be best assessed, and most effective, if he gets some time on the pitch with Salah and/or Mane, because he's the one young kid who can really play those quick and accurate long balls forward for them to run on to. So I'm a bit torn about him - I'd like to see him get a chance and I'd like us to rest the strikers who'll be best suited to his skills! Hopefully he gets a few minutes anyway.

How does he compare with Clarkson in that aspect? Because that's how Clarkson has been portrayed to me - a deep lying playmaker with a great range of passing.

I have a feeling that the team will be a bit stronger than we all think:

Kelleher

Trent
Williams
Fabinho
Tsimikas

Hendo
Jones
Keita

Jota
Minamino
Origi

They're quite similar - and indeed sometimes play as a pair, often just in front of the DM - although I'd say Cain is the most impressive when it comes to Alonso-style long passes. He can really pick teammates out with great accuracy. But they're both promising players.

It's a bit of a crass response but ... who cares about 2.7m if it costs us the title? Of course that's impossible to know unless you are particularly prescient.

I'd be surprised if that is the team after Klopp's comments re. youngsters.

Yeah, well Koumetio and the boys got their asses handed to them against City so I'm not sure Klopp is ready to go all out youths.
There's no money in the league cup, it's understandable there, but in the CL there's money to be won.
We also have 5 subs.

Wasn't Koumetio taken off at half time last match? Starting perhaps?

From what I read he was subbed in the middle of the second half, after City scored their 5th goal.
Clarkson played 90 mins, Cain didn't.
So, Cain might play.

Apparently Chamberlain took part in training today, while Matip and Jones were rested.

It did look like Jones took a hit during the game, thankfully he was able to carry on but wondering if that's reason why.
Matip well.. could be any number of reasons

Treating the game as a game to win doesnt mean anything regarding a title. Its just about mentality.
We obviously have to rest the players that need a rest.
I was referring to the thread title.

Matip must be on a greater rest / down time pattern than most / the rest of the squad , I wouldn't read too much into it

Is shaq fit for this one ? I thought he was on the same time scale to return as TAA & Keita ?

Ox was back in full training today, but thats probably to soon to get some minutes tomorrow.

I reckon we might be doing the ledley king treatment with him

He’s in the club crypt with Thiago, Shaqiri, van Dijk and Keita has his own bed there just in case he doesn’t resurrect every 4 weeks.
Bed? I thought they only used silk lined coffins. Weird, why would they keep them on beds?!

Rumoured team:

[bcolor=#ffffff]Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, R. Williams, Koumetio, Tsimikas; Clarkson, Cain, Keita; Jota, Origi, Minamino[/bcolor]

Interesting. That's what I meant about Cain - his long passing won't be that effective when Origi is waddling around up front, but hopefully Jota and Minamino will find some space and he can concentrate on them. Playing Cain and Clarkson together makes sense, as they're used to working alongside each other, but hopefully fans will give them decent support - they're still growing as well as in need of building themselves up physically, and they won't be a match for their midfield opponents in terms of strength, so it's important we play with good pace and keep the ball moving.

Clarkson's a very busy player - he can start moves and get on the end of them - and like Cain he's a very good passer of the ball. Cain is the best dead ball specialist - he's better at that then Trent was at the same age.

OK I wasn't that far off. Bar Kelleher it's pretty much what we should play if we are giving TAA and Jota more minutes. At least I got Cain & Clarkson right 😀

Must play Kelleher, he's young and needs all the game time he can get. Nothing we don't know about Adrian, so why play him?

Because as I said earlier ... this is a nothing game and we need him for Fulham. Lose 5-0, means nothing. We are paying Adrian let him do something for it. But hey-ho seems I'm in the minority and Klopp wants to give him more game-time so whatever.

If Alisson is ready for Fulham I can understand why Kelleher is playing tonight. If Ali is touch and go then I don’t. I wouldn’t risk it.

If that is the lineup then I will probably actually watch. I hope a dynamic Divock turns up.
