Rest the front 3, Robertson, Matip and Gini.

For the rest, this is pretty much a kick about in the park. Go out and enjoy it, shithouse outta 50/50s and jog around a bit.

Maybe a simple 4-4-2, that's usually a good system to fall back on when making loads of changes/playing youngsters. I also think Origi and Minamino playing as a forward duo up front is probably the best bet to coaxing any kind of positive attacking output from them. It's a lot harder leading the line on your own or trying to create something from the wing or #10.

----------------------Kelleher-------------------------
Neco------Rhys--------Koumetio-------Tsimikas
Millar---------Keita-------Cain-------------Clarkson
---------------Origi----Minamino---------------------

Robbo, Gini, Fabs, Matip, and the front 3 shouldn't even be on the plane.
Hmm yeah this is where @gkmacca usually has the best idea of who could be ready to play. Has Millar made the bench yet at all?

I’m mildly against playing Kelleher if we’re fielding our worst side possible just incase it goes very badly and ruins his confidence. How likely is that against this lot?

I don't think so. Cain ought to have a chance of figuring at some stage. Purely in terms of who Klopp most wants to have a look at, I'd say Cain. But obviously there's also the mattter of what positions are most likely up for grabs, and in that sense then any of the young defenders could get the nod. Longstaff, Millar and Stewart are possibles for the bench, but I'm only guessing.

Is Glatzel back? Klopp seems to rate him quite highly.

Kelleher

Neco ? Williams Kostas

Naby Jones ?

Jota Minamino Origi

So a CB and a midfielder, who will it be?

Argument against putting nearly all kids in, is it could be counterproductive to their development if we get twatted.

I think Klopp might bear this in mind and play 1 experienced CB, although I think I'd be tempted not to. Gutting Phillips not in the CL squad otherwise him and Williams would have been perfect.

I agree with this. The kids will learn less without some seniors to provide guidance and steel in the spine. I want to win this game, just like every friendly. So, I would start some seniors throughout the spine for at least 45 minutes, to make sure the kids are settled and in the game, even if struggling a bit (which is okay).

I would start with Matip or Fabinho in CB, and, maybe, Trent for minutes and the ability to create for any of the youngsters further forward. I would probably give Koumetio a start. With our current injury crisis, who knows if we will need both Jones and Phillips over the holiday period, and, he would benefit immensely next to a senior player. Yes, I know I am suggesting risking a senior player.

I would give either Henderson or Keita 45 minutes in the center with Minamino definitely up front or attacking mid.

And, I would not play Origi. He could score a couple of goals, but I do not think he would provide any benefit to the kids. I would rather exciting kids up front, with Hendo/Keita, Minamino and, possibly TAA providing the service to show their talents.

You see this is the issue. This game isn't about giving the kids an education, it's about resting the senior players and reducing risk for what really matters - winning the PL. Whilst giving squad players, those players (note not the kids) that may truly be called upon to make a difference in the first team, if required, game time to keep them sharp (or at least sharper than they would be without these games).

And the kids just got spanked 7-2 by City so I doubt even a drubbing in Denmark (unlikely with the squad players around them) would damage their poor fragile minds (or so it seems that's how some look at them, unable to take a beating without ditching the beautiful game for cross stitching).

Klopp just said that none of the injured players will return against Midtjylland.

Klopp says nobody got injured in the last game, but nobody else is close enough to return.

Kelleher is doing a cracking Father Stone impression in the presser, by the way. That bloke is so laid back he ought to be carried everywhere on a stretcher!

Goalkeepers are a funny breed – psychologically so different from all other players. Some are hyper and competitive like Hart, some laid back and detached like De Gea. I guess Kelleher is in the latter camp.

BTW this probably means Adrian won't start, right?

Yes, he looks certain to start.

I've heard someone who knew him as a kid say that basically it was his temperament that led to him being converted into a keeper. He showed real ability as an outfield player (he was a 20+ goal a season striker), but he lacked the dynamism. So they shoved him in goal and even when we signed him it was still the case that his best attributes were his ball playing skills, his reading of the game and his calmness - the actual goalkeeping bit was sort of built on to him, a bit like sticking a feature from B&Q on the side of your house! But then it was the amazing speed whereby he progressed as a keeper that really excited the coaches.

Also Klopp said that Divock wasn't injured against Wolves, just didn't make the squad. He's done at the club I think.

The thing about Cain is that he'll really be best assessed, and most effective, if he gets some time on the pitch with Salah and/or Mane, because he's the one young kid who can really play those quick and accurate long balls forward for them to run on to. So I'm a bit torn about him - I'd like to see him get a chance and I'd like us to rest the strikers who'll be best suited to his skills! Hopefully he gets a few minutes anyway.
