Gnashing of teeth... Do not give a fuck really tbh. I do feel sorry for anybody who bothered to pay though, if the comp means that little to us nowadays (?!) Then why didn't we just play a youth team or a reserve team who at least have played alongside each other before? Silly team that ... Absolutely no positives can be taken from that match and 5 points only in the league! ... Although it is true that Roy is a stop gap appointment he doesn't have to wave his mediocrity in our faces, regardless of the games unimportance we need a boost and that certainly isn't it.

Decent post, about right.

I did mention to Andy about the fact I thought we should have played a team who have played together before & left a few senior players on the bench to strengthen if we needed.
that's absolutely what we should have done.

* they know each other

* everyone knows their position

* they would have gained valuable experience

* if things had gone tits up, it's the reserves

Why is everyone making such a big deal out of it? Yeah we lost thats shit, but he played young kids and gave them a chance which is what most of us wanted. If he put out torres, gerrard etc against a league 2 side we would have been saying give youth a chance. Big deal, its a shit cup anyway, chelsea are out too aswell as man city, just means we can concentrate more on the league
I presume you mean concentrate on the league to stay above the relegation places

Didn't our reserve team beat Tranmere in pre season? Kind of supports your theory Spidey.

no one is going to tell me that a team used to playing with each other week in week out with some of the most talented young players I've seen in a decade woudln't have been a better bet than a team of players that whilst internationals have had few minutes playing time, players out of position and all of them thrown together to last minute.

how many times has spearing played with n'gog - wont know his runs
how many times has wilson played with jove - wont know when to overlapp

it's a mish mash and it's been happening for years. this was fair enough when the reserves was filled with wannbes but we have some serious kids and we could have given them a chance, there is no way they could have done worse.
jonjo came on and ran the show and he is no where NEAR the most talent kid we have in the reserves.

It's a shame that when our kids do get a game, they're played alongside rejects or in a poor tactical scheme. It was one of Rafa's failings, IMO, and so far while Roy has shown more willingness to play the prospects, he's not sending them out with much chance to win.
Yes, absolutely agree with that.

We do have some talented young players but what is the use of throwing them in all together with a fdew squad players to make up the numbers?

tbh i'd also question the assertion that keeps being made that roy's been more willing to play the youngsters, i'm not convinced of that at all.

so pacheco and kelly have featured more, but let's look at that more closely:

- pacheco's only really come into serious contention in the last year, and rafa had already started using him last season in a similar role, coming on in european games etc, and then he spent large chunks away on international duty.
- similarly for kelly: he played a bit in the CL last year, got injured for a few months, and by the time he came back we were in no position to be risking youngsters, given the struggle for 4th.

i think the main reason they're seeing more game time is that we've got a lot more shitty fixtures to plod through in the EL.

and i was pretty unimpressed with how he used the youngsters last night. our 4 prospects closest to the first team, kelly, pacheco, wilson and shelvey: 3 played out of position and the other on the bench. i'm not really detecting any great desire to give these lads a proper chance, certainly no more than rafa would have had.

Wilson has played left back in the past and Kelly has played fullback for the reserves and the first team for ages, Pacheco isn't exactly foreign to playing wide either, infact it's the kind of thing you see Wenger and Fergie do all the time with players who should play more centrally, but no one criticises them for it.

sure, they should all be able to 'do a job' there, but for me these games are probably the only opportunity to give these lads a proper chance to impress, and they're going to best do that by playing in their best positions.

i'm not saying it indefensible, more that it doesn't tally with this idea that he's been pro-youth.

We all got used to Benitez playing players out of position but I'm baffled as to why Roy Hodgson's doing it; I thought he would be much less likely to do this. That and not having some experienced back-up on the bench are errors in hindsight. I think after an embarrassment like this it won't be repeated.

The thing about blooding young players is that you need to have no more than three of them at any one time. There is no point whatsoever in lumping them all together and expecting them to gel as a team, especially if some of them are playing out of position.

The thing that will improve the young players is playing alongside the likes of Carra Stevie Torres, not playing alongside Lucas, Jova and Babel

And in addition, if you really have ambitions to progress in the competition, it's common sense to have some experienced players available on the bench instead of another bunch of youngsters!

Yeah if you look at the Manc and Chav lineups last night they each had 3 or 4 players in their squads who are guaranteed first choice. I dont think we had even one.

Experimentation's OK within a squad which is flying. IMO it's more questionable when everyone's scratching around for a bit of form and confidence. That's not to say it shouldn't be done at all in those circs, but IMO it should then be confined to the minimum necessary. Roy didn't do that last night, and we paid the price.

Am I the only one who thinks these twits should be banned from twittering ( or whatever the fuck its called) about LFC and their parts in it? Especially this shite of apologing for playing poorly. They are turning us into a laughing stock.

LOL

It reminds me of the time when David James blamed his goalkeeping errors on playing on his Nintendo too much! ;D

NO problems with the apology, but theres a problem if they keep doing it every fucking week.

Its starting to piss me off to be honest. Get your lazy fucking arses into gear on the pitch and you wont need to twitter an apology. Twits!

Couldnt agree more, it's cringe.

Save the apologising for the next match.

So according to some mentalits we lost vs ManU because Lucas didnt play,
whose fault is it for last night's debacle? (just asking, I didnt watch the match)

Just as nobody was outstanding, it would be difficult to pick out any player who was particularly bad to single out as a culprit. There was just a lack of cohesion and shape to the team, nobody was a match-winner. As a regular first-teamer you might have expected Lucas to stand out, but he didn't.
