no conspiracy honest, we're all paranoid

The more we complain to the FA the more decisions go against us. People are naive if they think it's not being done on purpose.

What really makes me angry is that of the 3 offside related goals this weekend, the two that were offside were were allowed and given yet the one that was onside was disallowed.

Funny. On the day we play away to a team in blue, go 2 up and get drawn back to 2-2, and then get a good a goal chalked off at the end for offside.. United do the same thing, have the same script, but have an offside goal given for them.

It's just those extra little decisions they seem to get that others don't. Not surprising though as Fergie has had 20+ odd years to influence officials. When he retires, United will still be up there, but these contentious 50-50 decisions won't be going for them nearly as much.

I find it astounding that the NFL experienced refereeing on the quality of this for a few weeks before it broke a strike dispute, but when we have it for years, they have another year of testing goal line technology. The higgs boson was discovered before the league could determine whether science had figured out whether a ball had crossed a line or not.

I'd like to think that i'm unbiased on this due to the fact that it was El judas getting sent off whilst playing against the Mancs (the hatred roughly evens itself out).

Evans should have got the yellow, but after watching the replay i can fully understand why the ref made the call he did.

Everyone has been calling for refs to be black and white - that if they don't give a card for a foul, they have to give a card for diving.

Trouble is it isn't possible to make those decisions with any acceptable level of accuracy. That's why they used to tend to not make decisions that minimized risk, i.e. they'd place a FK just outside the box if it was questionable. Now they are under pressure to do something, but they don't have the tools.

They need technological assistance. They won't get it for ages, so get used to it.

Technological assistance is hardly the only flaw here, the punishments dished out from the officials own judgement is all over the place in terms of consistency. That Chelsea match just summed up the entire season in terms of officiating. And we have been on the wrong end of poor judgement in practically every game this season.

It's not just about video evidence, it's about intelligence, common sense and good judgement, which is severely lacking at the minute. Either the rules need a complete overhaul to make the guidelines more stringent and obvious, or the officials need a rocket up their arses. If the guidelines aren't clear enough, then it's promoting a two fold issue. Refs are making mistakes AND the rules are being manipulated.

An English colleague who is a Utd fan is convinced that there is some sort of paying of refs this season. He can't believe the decisions that Utd are getting.

My own theory is that Whiskey nose wants to win a 20th title then he will retire, he wants it this season.

Macca knows a good story about Phillip Don and his links to Ferguson.

It wouldn't surprise me if something similar is still happening

At least when the Italians cheat, it's almost everyone involved benefits in the short term.
We need more community cheating I reckon.

Football's a load of shit right now, and I have no idea how that Gill appointment was allowed. How isn't there a bigger fuss made of it?

I don't think Man United have been match fixing, like in Italy, but there's no doubt they pressure referees and influence their decisions. It's not a level playing field anymore. I'm very close to being done with it altogether.

Best league in the world my arse.

It's becoming like fucking wrestling, no worse still, it's becoming like every annoying reality show that's out there. It's all fucking rehearsed, everything's bitched about in the media to inadvertently pull strings and put people under the microscope and then once teams get on the pitch, the whole thing becomes a drama about everyone and everything to do with and surrounding the game, with every cunt thinking they're a superstar. It just becomes a battle for limelight with the focus taken off the game itself.

On Sunday, people should have been talking about how great Suarez' performances was, how well Chelsea and Everton did to come back from 2-0 down, etc. At the top end of the game it's become a soap opera. And I do realise we've played a part in that, but still. It's become just another segment of the forever dwindling and conceited entertainment business, and it sucks. It's all about power, influence and loathsome matey cunts patting eachothers backs at functions.

Great post mate.

I'm still awaiting the day when clubs finally get done for fixing a match & some cunt (most likely Jason cundy or Martin Samuels) starts saying it's ok cos it's just 'entertainment'.

Footy is regarded as an entertainment franchise by everyone bar the most ardent of fans, instead of a sport as it should be, & its fucking sickening.

And meanwhile costs continue to rise, the FA make it up as they go along, idiots put themselves in charge of clubs in a sport they know nothing about and the media's darling clubs rise above the shit every fucking time.

Good post Mark. It's become less and less like sport the more time progresses as Jon says. Suarez has become the perfect pantomime villain as well. Made out to be the biggest pariah football has ever seen and a continued focus on him persists that is way disproportional to those things he does wrong. The ultimate aim is to drive him out of the English game - a game that is viewed within the media and FA power corridors as so morally and politically correct that it certainly cannot withstand the disgraceful influence of Suarez. What fucking hypocrisy. The campaign is working. We know this because even our own fans question and debate his every step on the field to the minutest of degrees never mind the hysteria that exists from every media outlet or fan that has any interest in the game around him. Theres simply too much attention on the player. Sure he has his faults but there's loads out there who do also but the level of attention is simply ridiculous now. Faults or not - and remember he's not the only one with them, we need him and we're a worse team without him no matter how much that sticks in some self righteous throats.

For me, its all a perfect deflection from the real issues in the game. Corrupt FIFA executives, backhanders and bungs, seemingly ineffectual fair play rules, refusal to introduce technology, a FA that employs questionable and inconsistent standards, ridiculously poor officiating where reputation apparently matters more than fairness, utter hypocrisy from all parts of the game - chairmen, managers, players and a game where simulation is viewed as more villainous than potentially career ending challenges, stamping and elbows. Let's concentrate all our force, vigour, air time and column inches on some goofy Uruguayan who can play a bit but likes to dive now and again - and a lot less than he's actually made out to.

It's all bollocks and I've become sick of not talking about FOOTBALL anymore. I just want to go the game, sink a few beers and talk about that great goal or even laugh about how shite we we're. Footballs on its arse and has a long way to go to climb out of the hole the corrupt cunts in football have dug for everyone.

A lad on Facebook replied to a post I made about Suarez, when I said that everyone's slagging him off, yet most teams would take him in a heartbeat. He's a bluenose and he said "I wouldn't. He's a disgrace to your club and I'd be embarrassed if he played for us".

The same lad probably had a poster of Big Dunc on his bedroom wall when he was a kid and probably still sees him as a hero in Everton folklore.

Ha. And the irony of their banana throwing fans screaming racist as well.

A big "Yep!" to Mark, Sunny, et al... I used to love football. I'd watch every second of every match I could find.

Now I hate this bastardisation of what football once was, and can barely bring myself to watch anything that's not Liverpool. Couldn't tell you the last non-Liverpool match I made a point of watching. There's no point - It's an industry, run by the fat cats.

Now, I love Liverpool and I hate what football has become.
