Nigel Adkins sacked.

If you're going to appoint a new manager in a transfer window surely you'd do it at the start.

Crazy decision.

I wonder who signed that Norwegian defender we tried to sign on trial?

They seem to be pretty hot on Serie A - were they taken over by Italians?

As for the sacking, shouldn't the owners be afforded the same sort of patience demanded by managers and players? As far as I can see, they've made money available and they've got the club into the Premiership. What is there for the fans to cry about?

Well, if it were me, I would be thinking it was a bit premature to get rid of a manager who was seemingly finally finding his feet in the EPL to replace him with someone who has just been sacked from his old club because they were in the relegation zone and has no knowledge of the EPL

There chairman, Nicola something, is indeed an Italian.

This news has prompted Dean Windass to take to twitter to question the point of 'doing badgers'.

If you have to ask Dean, you're not doing it right.

It does look to be a stupid decision with management bringing in one of their own / yes man... I'm just pointing out that often 'realistic' assessments are shouted down in favour of giving people time.

In ther
Broken record time.

Their improvement probably has a whole lot more to do with money than Adkins, they were taken over not long before Adkins was out in charge and spent money you don't typically see newly promoted sides spend in recent years.

In the 1st division they did outspend their rivals but not considerably so; and other teams have tried this in previous years and not got promoted. In the Championship Southampton were NOT one of the big spenders and yet still got promoted. Also, during his tenure they sold Oxlade-Chamberlain for £12m so all his dealings were more than counter-balanced by that..

Strangely his 2 worst signings have been this season when he has finally being given a decent transfer budget; £12m for Ramirez and £6m for Rodriguez were poor signings.

Adkins has done an excellent job there (despite his 2 dodgy signings) and I concur with those who now hope they get relegated on the strength of this stupid decision.

This Pocahontas bloke or whatever he's called, he's just said at his press conference that he's been preparing for the role for 'several weeks,' so it's not even a sudden decision to make a change. Adkins is well out of it.

Forren just signed for Southampton and said he was aware of what was going to happen.
This is everything that is wrong with clueless owners.

Adkins comes across as a very likeable person and has a great record for Soton.
Will hopefully get a new job soon and continue his career.

Shame we wont here the fans sing "who needs Mourinho, we got our physio" anymore.

Possibly massively reading between the lines the statement from the club linked there talks of future policy being focussed on youth development etc.... maybe Adkins was pissing them off insisting on more funds... whatever way it transpired its a shabby decision.

Just saw an interview with Pochettino. And his interpreter. It appears he doesn't speak English. It just gets more and more bizarre.

According to Balague he's a very bright guy who understands a lot more English than he can speak yet. He'll need to be.

Ballague I'm guessing will have a high opinion of him as an Espanyol fan. He did quite well for poor 'ol Espanyol who are finding life tough these days and very broke.
