NFL Regular Season Thread 2010

No. It was right that he died in the snow at the hands of the Bears.

Jesus. We're going to get the Saints, aren't we? Hope it snows. Although that didn't help against the Pats.

McNabb ain't a happy man ... If Favre retires, McNabb is the Vikes starting QB i'm sure ...

ASHBURN, Va. (AP)—Donovan McNabb(notes) felt disrespected by the way he was benched by Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan.

“Everything was handled awkwardly,†McNabb said Tuesday on his weekly radio show on ESPN980, “somewhat to a disrespect to me and to the team.â€

Making his first public comments since his demotion last week, McNabb said he strongly disagreed with the decision, but he has a bigger problem with the way he says the organization leaked the news to the media before informing him.

“Because of the timing and because of all the leaks and everything that was put out there, and no putting out the fire, so to speak,†McNabb said, “I’m hearing everything through the media.â€

Shanahan waited until Thursday evening to tell McNabb that Rex Grossman(notes) would be the starter for the rest of the season, even though rumblings of a possible switch had been circulating all week.

“I was pulled back by it. All of a sudden you get this news a couple of days before the game, you do feel somewhat disrespected,†McNabb said. “You could have told me earlier or at least prepared me for it. … The term I did use was professional. You would like to hear it early, and if you hear it late, it kind of throws off the preparation for a lot of guys.â€

McNabb said he wasn’t even aware that he was being demoted to No. 3 quarterback for the final two games of the season until Shanahan announced the move to reporters the next day.

The contract is going to be a problem. But given that the Skins don't want McNabb, they might just cut him. In fact, I think it's pretty likely, and that shunting him down the roster now is in prep for cutting him in the offseason. Cut the $40m guaranteed cheque and send him on his way.

The whole thing has been a disaster, but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that McNabb was playing like a girl (and not a UConn girl) and frankly Grossman's last game shat on anything McNabb has done this season. The whole franchise is a fucking mess though. I don;t think it's fixable until Snyder goes, and that ain't happening.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with McNabb and Favre this offseason. Favre looks done, but this is Favre. The mental cunt loves it. Maybe he wants to try out a warm city. Miami?

Amukamara is definitely the best after Peterson. Jenkins is having a really nice season at Florida but it would be madness to take him over Amukamara. Plus, you get to put him back together with Suh. Which is awesome.

This is the Lions though. Will they take the player that fits a need, or just pick the top athlete on the big board who's still available? That might be AJ Green looking at the order right now, and you absolutely don't need him so they might can that policy and continue this unsettling trend of drafting well.

I read Deadspin for the first time today and noticed this:

Utah-Boise wasn't the game it should have been, although I suppose it was never going to be with Wynn out. Lazy first quarter and then Boise totally dominated. Score could have been anything if they had been bothered. I'm assuming Kellen Moore is going to stay for his senior year, given that nobody seems to rate him as a pro prospect, so it'll be interesting to see how they fare in the Mountain West, especially as they'll have a year of TCU there and that Broncos team is loaded with seniors who won't be coming back. Boise are Boise though, so it should be a good season.

Of course he'd going to declare this year. Why risk coming back and Jake Lockering yourself? He'll probably win the national title and givew himself as good a shot at going pretty high first round as he's ever going to have. Plus, his old man wants a cheque, so...

Predicting the way some organisations select quarterbacks is a risky business. Luck is obviously first off the board. Will he be number one overall? Don't know. If it's Carolina to pick first they have a decision to make on Clausen. He's been a real disappointment. I thought he was ready for the pros, but it's been a dismal year. That said, he has had absolutely no help from his team. Things improved last week, but they have the Steelers this week. Do they dump him after one year, selecting Luck as an elite prospect? Who knows. I guess probably.

Locker has really gone down the big board, and Newton will be artificially inflated, particularly when Auburn beat Oregon. Add to that what Vick has done to opponents this year, teams will see Newton as a genuine dual threat in the pros. He's certainly more ready than Tebow as he has a much better arm. Indeed, Denver is an interesting team to look at. New coach, new outlook. Has Tebow bought himself time? He was impressive next week, but he'll probably have to be again. Denver are exactly stupid enough to try and replace Tebow with Newton though. I would laugh hard at that.

Arizona and Cincy will have early picks and both need quarterbacks. Mallet will struggle in the pros. HE has a fucking cannon, but technically he is all over the fucking place. He'll need some work. These teams need someone who can go now. With Locker having a shit year (even though he's probably still a solid prospect) they'll talk themselves into Newton.

Then, every year I look at the draft and see eight or nine teams who NEED a quarterback, and only a couple draft one high. The rest continue to lose the next year. But if you're going to spunk $50m on someone, I suppose they better be right. The teams below Carolina and Denver will be hoping that those teams give last year's drafted signal callers another chance so they can get Luck, that's for sure.

Hopefully not the Steelers with their rapists QB, thug LBs and their America's Team attitude.

The Giants (unfortunately as I hate them) will win.
Ha. Not in any way, shape or form bitter then. We'll never be Americas team, but we content ourselves being Americas most successful team.
We wont win it this year, and i agree, i fancy the Giants too.
We fair put the kybosh on the Giants eh Wiz?

Good.

I know ... I almost feel bad because it's my bro's favorite team ...

Lots of talk that if they don't make the post-season, TC's gone this spring...

His November & December record over the last 4 or 5 years is a losing one.

Bonkers ending to the Music City Bowl here. North Carolina fuck up their clock management and chaos ensues as their offensive line, quarterback, field goal team and every other fucking player is on the pitch. The officials rule time expires and Tennessee think they've won 20-17. Their entire sideline pours onto the field to celebrate. Players and coaches shake hands, even though NC think they spiked it with a second on the clock. Then the officials review it, say there was a second on the clock, give NC a penalty for too many players on the pitch and the players are brought back onto the pitch. North Carolina slot the FG to take it into OT. Madness.

Now there's an unsporting conduct flag on Tenn from the kick, so North Caroline start with the ball on the 12.5 yard mark. I love offense/defense college ball OT shootouts.

NC touchdown. Going for one on the extra, then Tenn take over on the NC 25. Tenn gave away three personal fouls in the last 30 seconds of regular play, then thought they'd won it, then had it taken away, and now need a TD to extend the shootout. What is it about Nashville and crazy endings?

Cracking Tennessee touchdown.

Why am I commentating? There is clearly nobody here but me. I'll forge on alone like a fucking trouper. For posterity.

If it goes to a third period of OT I think it's mandatory to go for two points on the conversion. Which is fun.

Tenn start in 2nd OT and are picked off on their second set of downs. NC take over on the Tenn 25 yard line and can win it with a field goal.

North Carolina win. It's possible we might wake up to the news Tennessee has invaded and razed the Carolinas to the soil.
