NFL Regular Season Thread 2010

Good to hear Austin Collie was okay after the game. He got destroyed and it looked bad when they took him off strapped down so he couldn't move. I'm assuming Troy Polamalu is going to shut the fuck up around about now.

Pittsburgh have taken over from the Cowboys as 'America's team' - winning team with a bunch of thugs and convicts.

Btw MC, Luck? Who is that? And I want that USC kid ...

Agreed. It looked awful and I was very worried for the kid.

But, it shouldn't have been a flag and it better not result in a fine... The safety was not intending to hit him helmet-to-helmet - Collie's own motion, combined with the impact of the initial (clean) tackle forced Collie into the saftey's helmet, not vise-versa.

I didn't understand the incomplete pass call on that one. He caught the ball, landed and took a step forward, before spilling it on impact. Shouldn't it have been ruled a fumble?

And if the NFL got rid of helmets there would be less reckless tackling

The refs just bottled it ross. Of course it was a catch.

I'm still fucking furious about the Lions. They had the game won, then when stafford went off they turned into the lions of old and actively set out to lose. Tossers.

If they'd have won that then people might finally take them seriously for the first time in 52 years. Now they're just the same old pathetic losers as always. I'd have rather they got blown out.

And Stafford maybe the best they've ever had, but will clearly never be healthy 🙁

Aye, that play itself wasn't illegal, but it just highlights the risks that are inherent in the game anyway without making it worse with late blindside hits and heltmet to helmet hits and players bitching that they can't maim people anymore.

Andrew Luck, Stanford's QB. He'll be top of the big board for next year's draft if he comes out (and I imagine he will having watched Jake Locker fuck himself up this year). I can't see Jerry actually taking a QB in the first round though.

Barkley won't be eligible for next year.

Barkley? I assume he's the USC QB ... I meant their DB (peterson no?)

Aren't you disappointed at how relaxed I am with the Cowboys' disastrous 1-7 season? 🙂 Liverpool has trained me well.

Patrick Peterson. Plays for LSU. Aye, he's pretty fucking good. And I think there's a fair chance he'll be on Dallas's radar, especially as there really isn't any O-line talent worth splunking a top five pick on. Prince Amukamara is also a special corner.

Dallas radio is reporting that Wade Phillips will be fired today, with Jason Garrett taking over until the end of the season.

JJ couldn't really do anything else, but it will make NO difference at all, until he relinquishes day-to-day control of the football operations, and allows a 'football man' to run the show.

When he's done that (Jimmy, Bill), it's worked. When he hasn't (Barry - yes, he won a SB, but with Jimmy's team - Chan, Dave and now Wade), it's failed. Miserably.

Well ricobats will be happy ... and watch the Cowboys win 8 straight to clinch the Wild Card ... Sound too good to believe? Well because it is! 😉

Patrick Peterson is fantastic. I really want him. And Greg Jones in round two. We'd only fucking ruin them though.

After wanting the Cowboys to be shit, when they finally are it'll possibly result in them getting the guy I wanted 🙁

Wade out, Garrett in official.

This is just going to be a massive fustercluck, isn't it? Or is he going to have a McDanielsesque first month that'll paper over the cracks and lead to a horrorshow second season. We can only dream.

Just reading back through this thread Avvy... you said in pre-season you'd be happy with 8-8!

I guess you'd be VERY happy with it now!

Vikings back on? After 3 1/2 quarters of the same, predictable shit we've seen all year, the sack machine comes alive, Favre stops throwing picks (and sets career-best for yards in the meantime), and kicker comes up clutch? Maybe playoffs? Maybe?

Garret has only been named the interim replacement, which hopefully means Jerry does not see him as the solution, just more fill in for now.

My worst fear is they go on a massive winning streak to end the season, and decide Garret is the savior, then we will be fucked.

On another note Houston should be breaking Wade Phillips' door down to be their defensive coordinator.

ESPN's DC blog thinks John Fox is the favorite ... We won't get Cowher - he needs more control. We won't get Gruden for the same reason ... but maybe a young up n' coming assistant NOT named Jason Garrett

And if Jerry doesn't releinquish day-to-day control, it won't make any real difference...

Oh well, time will tell ...

I'd prefer Gruden, just because Cowher has the Pittsburgh connection. I heard on ESPN, they may look at Jim Harbough from Stanford as well.
