NFL Regular Season Thread 2010

I think the Patriots are shooting themselves in the foot with this trade. Moss is still a clutch WR, and he still demands the respect of every NFL defense. The Vikings just got much better - MOss will be extremely motivated and I think the Patriots have dropped from the 'Super Bowl contender' list in the AFC.

I expected this to happen but I expected it to happen after the season. I think it will not bear fruit for either team. The Patriots still need a receiver of his quality and, as for the Vikes, if Favre continues as he has started the season it wouldn't matter if he had a prime Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin as his wideouts. Oh well yay Vikes!

I heard on the radio today that Bill Belicheck is becoming more and more like an old lady that hordes things in her house, only he is hoarding draft picks.

I think he now has 8 picks in the first four rounds next year.

I would say he did the right thing, the difference between the Pats, and the Vikings, is Minnesota may win it all this year, but New England is putting the pieces in to win numerous Super Bowls down the line.

14 1st or 2nd year players on that team chaps... It may be a year or two down the road, but Tome will guide us to a couple more SB's before he hangs them up.

Neither team is likely to win it this year (feel free to pull me up on this at end of season). Minnesota, if they don't win it this year, won't win it for a decade. New England is well-positioned to win at any time in the future.

Alshon Jeffrey is outrageous. And Garcia had the best day of his life.

36 yards for Richardson and Ingram on wheels. That S Carolina defence can play.

Cowboys down 17-3, given up 12 sacks already and 52 penalties.

We're going 1-3 and with the Rangers now 2-2 in the MLB playoffs (not to mention Liverpool), I'm cursed. Fuck it, I hate sports.

I suspect Lovie may be some sort of sorcerer.

I mean, Clausen was poor, but Collins was just plain shit. 4 interceptions? Really? Still, looks like we remembered how to get Matt running again. Carolina are awful though. Still think we'll end up 8-8 or 7-9.

Another reason to fire Jason Garrett.

3 & goal from the 9 yard line and he goes for a short dump off to Felix Jones ...

Fucking ay. The Cowboys have actually been fantastic this half and well, stupid turnovers will cost us again.

1-3 with one of the toughest schedules in football ... GREEEEEAT

so Witten scores a TD, passes the ball to Colombo to spike it and it's a 15 yard penalty ... What a fucking joke. It's not as bad as Detroit getting raped in game 1 but sorry, that rule is a joke.

Fucking crap.

oh well, the Titans are an average team (like the Bears, like the Redskins) that the Cowboys happily gave a win away.

Let's look at today ... 12 penalties ... over 100 yards ... ridiculous

Well at least Roy Williams is finally playing football ... So we can have a great offense and finishing 7-9! Woooo Hoooo

First five minutes of the Raiders-Chargers game were hysterical. San Diego special teams seem to have misunderstood the meaning of 'special'.

That jenkins play where he stood and watched after assuming the wr was down by contact (albeit correctly it turned out) was rather woeful.

Most points scored in the NFC: Detroit 🙂

Most points conceded in the NFC: Detroit 🙁

Are we sure it was correct? Genuine question - I thought you had to be down when touched, not upright but on the way down...

Oh, and I know you've all got bigger things to worry about, and I know it was only the Rams, but I'm absolutely delighted about yesterday 🙂

Yep. Believe it or not, I was made up for you yesterday, when I saw that score...

You're the only Lions fan I "know". Wow, I come here WAAAAY too often! 🙂

If you are on the way down, and touched that constitutes down by contact, but you have to be in the act of falling.

I love how LT has one good game in the last 4 years, and now he is back, a very over rated player.

Even though the San Francisco 49ers are one of the NFL's three currently winless teams and mired in last place in the NFC West, owner and president Jed York predicted they are going to bounce back in historic fashion.

"We're going to win the division," York predicted Monday morning in a text to ESPN.

The 49ers fell to 0-5 after losing 27-24 at home to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

If the 49ers do win the division, they will make history. Under the NFL's current playoff format adopted in 1990, no team ever has opened the season 0-5 and reached the playoffs, no less won its division. If the 49ers are going to reverse the trend, they need to start doing it Sunday against Oakland, which is 2-3 after ending a 13-game losing streak against the San Diego Chargers.

But consider that the 49ers have played only one divisional game, at Seattle in the opener, and still have five more games left against the NFC West teams they are trying to bypass. Arizona is in first place in the division with a 3-2 record, Seattle is 2-2 and St. Louis is 2-3.

Plus, in the weakest division in football, the 49ers' schedule in the final 11 games is not exactly daunting.

San Francisco hosts Oakland, plays at Carolina, plays Denver in London, has a bye, hosts St. Louis and Tampa Bay, travels to Arizona for a Monday night game and then plays at Green Bay, returns home for Seattle, plays at San Diego and at St. Louis, and finishes the season at home against Arizona.

Riiiiighhhht Jed.

ESPN have projected the first official BCS rankings and come up with -

1. Boise State .913
2. Oregon .863
3. TCU .854
4. Oklahoma .8425
5. Ohio State .8421
6. LSU .782
7. Nebraska .777
8. Auburn .744
9. Michigan State .642
10. Alabama .634

That's a pretty fucking comfortable margin for the Broncos. Ohio State's schedule, Miami aside, has been fluff so far, so the computer won't rank them high, but by the time the official rankings come out they will have played Wisconsin, so if they're still unbeaten I expect them to be higher than 5.

Kellen Moore for the Heisman!
