NFL Regular Season Thread 2010

It could have been a much worse mullering too, they could have been out of sight by the half. Akeen Ayers is one of the best defensive players in 1-A right now. He's a beast. Forced a fumble and took an INT off Gilbert in the first half that UCLA failed to score off. Hard to reconcile the UCLA of the last two weeks with the side Andrew Luck lit up when they taken to the shed by Stanford.

That was great wasn't it? It's moments like these when I enjoy living in Austin.

Karl Do you go to Fado's to watch games?

I have been a few times, but I actually live in Elgin, so it's about a half hour drive to Fado's, so I watch most of them at home.

The last match I saw there was Birmingham City away last season.

If he puts a hit on Favre, like he did Delhomme in the preseason, they may be arresting Suh for involuntary manslaughter after the game.

Dallas WILL beat Houston on Sunday. Write it down.

After watching Q1, we'll lose this by 7-14 points. Something isn't right. The defense, despite being great, cannot force TOs. The offense is being held back it seems. I guess my preseason concerns are just being validated but still ... this is fucking frustrating.

Yeah, that's pretty disappointing. Carolina don't seem to be able to get anything going. He's only put it up five times.

Batch, Mendenhall and Wallace taking the fucking piss out the pirates tonight.

Looks like Big Bens ban wont have hurt us at all.

Ok, quick thoughts here.

- Forget the long TD pass, I really like what I've seen from Roy Williams this year. He's catching tough balls, and taking big hits, and not dropping anything (he did have one fumble I think against Da Bears). Yes, he still runs funny but I like how he's never shied away from the criticism. A healthy & motivated Roy Williams is a very good weapon for Romo.

- 3 turnovers forced! Wooo Hooo. I really don't get this defense. They're really good but struggle to get TOs. What on earth is missing? Seriously, maybe MC can chip in.

- Dez Bryant will be a phenomenal WR in this league.

- I don't get the RB by committee. It fucks up all backs I think - none of them can get into any rhythm.

- 1-2 means we can still do something though again, the questions (Garrett, no depth on the OL, no TOs from defense remain).

When you watch a game outside of the states, who does the commentating?

Was wondering as I watch the Indy-Denver game, and remind myself how clueless Phil Simms is.

He is horrible.

Before the game he said, the thing we want to know, is the thing we don;t know, are the Denver broncos gonna have a good season?

What the hell is that?

He is not the only shit commentator though.

Karl - I had Aikman and Buck (i.e. regular Fox or CBS commentators).

Aikman is so good but I hate it b/c I want him to be 'gentle' with the Cowboys but he isn't b/c he's a pro.

Niners 0-3.

NFC West 'favourites' my arse. Having said that, 3rd road game in 4 games next week against Falcons.

Combination of coaching and lack of good safeties I'd say.

Newman and Jenkins are very good players, but you could really do with a ballhawk behind them. Someone who reads the game and can step up. How many interceptions did Sensabaugh and Hamlin get last year? I don't remember too many. And Ball couldn't tackle himself in a cupboard. Owusu-Ansah looks a good player, but it's probably too soon to be expecting loads from him. Both him and Church are projects. I'm surprised you didn't look to get a free agent in for a season or two whilst these rooks bed in.

Dallas's defense is odd because you are an excellent pressure side. Ware is a beast and Spencer really improved last season. Ratcliff is one of the best noses in the league (and is playing out of position). Loads of sacks, loads of tackles, blanket pressure, but no turnovers. That's where coaching comes in. You need someone to drill these skillsets into players. Turnovers aren't luck. Somebody needs to be telling these players how to strip balls.

Whilst none of this is specifically his fault, I don't think Wade Phillips will ever win you a Superbowl. Man's a buffoon. I don't know why Jerry doesn't just take the team over himself.

Go Jets!

Sanchez starting to look good.

He has taken away a major headache for Ryan, for sure.

But Wade is a great defensive head coach - this is his forte. He should be able to do something with this group. I don't think he'll win a Super Bowl but what can you do ... Gotta stand by the man for the time being, the team seems to like him.

I actually really like Stensabaugh. He's one of the few FSs who can cover RBs, TEs or WRs - but he doesn't find himself around the ball much. Hamlin, thank the dear lord, is gone and I actually like Ball BUT he doesn't find himself around the ball either. In other words, we need an Ed Reed sort of player ... Oh well.

Keep any eye out on Owusu-Ansah in the next few years ... Church is more of a special teams player, the next Bill Bates (remember him!??) perhaps

Bills release Edwards.

Buffalo is such a fucking moronic organisation that I couldn't even begin to guess now if they'll take a quarterback in next year's draft. They clearly need one, but seem capable of fucking up the draft every year. Seriously. You have their team and you pick CJ Spiller and Torell Troup with your first picks? Looking at who was still on the board when they made both these picks, they could have had Bryan Bulaga and Jimmy Clausen. These idiots make drafting look like alchemy.

Saints are now 2-1 and have been fortunate not to be 0-3 ...

Super Bowl hangover?

"Fortunate" my Arsenal. ;D

Last season we caught the wave and surfed it all the way home. It was always going to be tough to repeat the dose. I'm still a believer though. Apart from anything else there's a lack of truly outstanding competition out there.
