NFL Regular Season Thread 2010

Yeah, Favre looks done. Even if he picks it up midseason, they've given themselves too much to do with the Pack and the mighty Bears of Chicago in their division. And will the Vikes pay him for another season? They need to be looking at next year's draft for some type of QB. There are so many good ones available that next year is the time to go.

Also, Jackson Jeffcoat (Jim Jeffcoat's boy) looks pretty good. He's a true freshman and looks like a stud in the making.

Yup he looks good. Tech is a tricky away game for Texas especially with a young team and I am happy we won, albeit not that convincingly.

Trent Richardson looks dynamite and with him and Ingram - looks like Bama can go all the way.

Bit of an odd day for me in the NFL. I have a soft spot for the Titans due to Vince Young and the fact that I stayed in Nashville for a couple of years. Now I stay near Pittsburgh and all of my mates are Steeler fans.

No really close games this weekend in college football other than Arizona - Iowa. Texas defeat Texas Tech on the road. Nice win for a new team. WVU defeat Maryland at home. Boise State make it 17-0.

I know very little about college gridiron. Is that an upset for the Terps?
I wouldnt think so. WVU is a better team and the Terps have not won on the road in ages.

@Lance Armstrong - If anyone has Bill Cowhers number please forward it to Jerry Jones. Thanks Lance.

Nice stuff from MSU!

So nice Dantonio had a heart attack.

A few observations from the first couple of weeks…

• It’s not like Brett Farve to throw some VERY costly interceptions, is it..? Oh yeah. Yeah, it IS like him. JUST like him. Wanker. Guess you actually could have done with a spin through training camp after all, huh, goldenballs?
• The Cowboys have immense talent. Unfortunately, they also have immense ningcompoops at the head coach and offensive coordinator positions. Lose to Houston next week, and Wade AND Garrett need to be fired. Not for the (lack of) performance as much as the fact that this team is WOEFUULY unprepared to play… All through training camp, after those awful pre-season games, we kept hearing “We’re not trying yetâ€, and “It’ll be ok when they matterâ€. Well, guess what Wade? It does. And it’s not.
• The Jets absolutely could go to, and win, the Superbowl. They could also go 9-7 and miss the playoffs. It ALL depends on Marc Sanchez. Oh, and Mr. Reevis IS human after all!
• It’s good to see Kansas City has a somewhat respectable team again… Football is better when they’re decent.
• The Patriots will probably be what they were last season… A 9-7 or 10-6 team that pisses away halftime leads on the road A LOT and goes out meekly in the first round of the playoffs. It was wonderful while it lasted, but that window is well and truly closed now.
• Maybe Jason Campbell’s NOT the answer in Oakland after all… Once again, it appears my hopes, even for mere respectability, are about to be shattered, courtesy of Mr. Davis’ incredible idiocy.
• Pittsburg look GOOOOOOOD. That defense is OUTSTANDING. That was Chris Johnson they held to 36 yards yesterday… If the rapist is ready to go in two weeks, watch out!
• I HATE Indianapolis. I really, REALLY do. That they get basically a free pass to home field advantage EVERY season ‘cos of that field and their schedule really pisses me off. All football should be played outdoors. On grass. The end.

Favre was awful yesterday, Vikings run defense was poor, only bright spot was Peterson who had a hell of a game. That and the chocolate malt cup I had at the game was pretty good. The call-in shows were ripping on Favre pretty good afterwards. He looked slow, old, was off with his timing and making poor reads. What was it? A total of 7 turnovers? You don't win games like that. Dolphins played alright but it was the Vikings offense that continually shot itself in the ass all game long. Awful.

This.

Domes are for pansies and those who grow them.

Also, my boy Jimmy Clausen is starting next week. That fall in the draft should work out just fine for him if he can cement his position in the Panthers team ahead of Matt Moore (and let's face it, if he can't do that...)

damn ... :

Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley was found dead in his home Monday in an apparent suicide.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said authorities were called to McKinley’s home in Centennial at 3:35 p.m. local time and found his body in the second-floor master bedroom. He said detectives believe McKinley, 23, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Robinson said authorities were called by a female friend of McKinley’s who discovered the body after returning from an errand with his child. The sheriff declined to say if authorities found a suicide note.

“It’s still part of our investigation and probably nothing we’ll talk about right now,†he said.

McKinley’s death is the latest in a series of tragedies for the Broncos in recent years. Cornerback Darrent Williams was slain in a drive-by shooting on New Year’s Day 2007 and three months later backup running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in St. Louis.

“Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley,†team owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement. “He was part of the Broncos’ family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny’s familyand friends.â€

Alex Smith stepped up last night, and we still got beaten by the Saints .......
That game-tying drive was fantastic but unfortunately they were too efficient and left too much clock for Brees. The turnovers didn't help either.

Smith is definitely a gamer though.

ESPN just ran the short film about Stafford in the Browns game last year, where they had his mic recording and he got his shoulder separated.

I don't think there's a way to not like this kid.

It's great isn't it!

That was when I fell in love with him. Forget your Montana's, that was THE drive!

We need him back for week 5 otherwise we might lose to the rams 🙁

The good news though, the way best exploded into top gear after that second cut on the screen pass vs philly was simply glorious. Not seen that in detroit since.... Actually no, I won't finish that sentence 🙂

Bill Simmons has an article saying the NFC West is the worst division in the NFL. True?

Which is the best?

Yes. I reckon the a healthy lions would have a shot at the nfc west.

Best probably afc east or afc north I'd say. Both have 3 solid teams.

A losing record team will win the NFC West, so...

Wouldn't it be amusing if the Texans torched the Cowboys though, and what was expected to be a season of will-they-won't-they get to a Superbowl in their own yard just turns into won't-they after three weeks.

Bama at Arkansas later. Don't expect anything other than a Tide victory, but interested to see if Mallet can test that new secondary. He was a fucking beautiful throw. Alabama defence looks mighty at the moment but they haven't faced an actual quarterback yet. Saban blitzes better than any other college coach though. Mallet will be picking himself up a lot.

Cincinnati interest me. They are fucking shit, having gone unbeaten in regular play last year. Bizarre. Oklahoma visit them today. Probably not the day they turn it around then. I like S Carolina/Auburn to be a good match, and I want to see how the Irish deal with Andrew Luck.

Most fun at the moment is Michigan. Their defence is appalling, but Denard Robinson is the most fun player to watch in all of football right now. Dude has over a thousand yards offence in three games! He has almost 70% completion for 670 yards in the air and currently leads 1-A in rushing with over 550 yards. Whuk? Man is a cartoon character. Played himself from nowhere right into the Heisman discussion. Also fun is Taylor Martinez at Nebraska. He has 8 rushing TDs from QB and averages over 10 yards per rush. Which is more than he does in the air where he has only thrown 1 TD. Teams don't know what to make of him, although the Huskers haven't played anyone that really matters yet (did torch Washington though - Jake Locker's lauded number one draft status took a bit of a ding - and destroyed Nathan Enderle). Their defence is nice, and I like them for the Big 12.
