I don't get why Downing has to play ... but it seems Enrqiue is finished.
Not a big fan of that team, can't see us scoring much.
It's amazing how we used to play the youth in this cup, now we play the youth in the league and play the reserves here, haha. The team will be good though, lacking a little creativity maybe, would have been nice to see Suso (unless he's down to play this weekend) or Pacheco starting ahead of drowning. However in Assaidi, Borini and Shelvey, we'll have some good play.
So Patches can't get a sniff of the first team and now is struggling to make a cup squad full of reserves, very telling.
Borini will do well in a central role, esp with Assaidi creating opportunities on the wing, and shelvey bombing forward.

He outperformed Downing against WBA. So I really don't know whats going on there.
Yeah, maybe. Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence to be honest. But it's only one game and it's more important we win in the league at this stage of the season.
On the bench vs stoke?
Was checking some numbers on the official site, and saw that Sinclair is showing up under the first team squad list. I don't remember seeing him listed under there previously.
Subs maybe? Udinese should be a tough opponent.
Could be that it's the non-bibs that are playing?
After failing to flog Agger, I reckon Rodgers has identified Enrique and Downing as sell-able assets and is now trying to force them out.
Although to be fair, Downing is making it easy for him.
Modo says he's injured as per offal. If he is, he still has a chance. But he's been so average (compliment) in his outings, that I'm skeptical. He has to change how he plays, which I don't think he's capable of ...
As for Downing, I'll say it once, I'll say it again - I feel bad for him and a change of scenery will do him the world of good.

What would be the whole XI?
I hope he takes a practical approach to winning every game, I don't like the idea of having an overly prescriptive formula for selecting teams for different competitions.

I prefer that team, even though it won't be it.
Udinese sold their best players again this Summer as they do in general most years. Last couple of years they got away with it., not so much this year. Have had a poor start to the season and I think they are there to be beaten by us
